  1. Ooooo, thank you Speakers Corner. Let's go back to 1767 when John Spilsbury invented the jigsaw puzzle. What was the picture on the puzzle? I believe there are two possible answers so either will be accepted.
  2. Sorry everybody. I didn't get any computer notification from this thread. Yes, communication by flag would have been quicker. My computer has been very sick after several updates disagreed with it and it's taken me ages to get back to almost working order. And no, I don't know SuperTed's sidekick so I look forward to reading the answer.
  3. Thanks Atlas Cached. I've not met that site before but I think it will be very useful for both of us.
  4. Thank you very much Mineral2. At least we now know where to start looking.
  5. I have received a plea from a caching colleague who is away on holiday and has a capacity problem with his Etrex 20. I have an Etrex 10 so can't answer the questions. The Etrex 20 is showing 95% memory filled. He has deleted all non-essential caches from the gpx folder and it has made no difference to the memory available. Is there another folder of gpx type files? I've read other posts mentioning ggz files but haven't needed to understand these yet. I assume that he's got a lot of maps loaded. Where would these show in the file manager of a pc? We have limited communication facilities and I have no idea about the Etrex 20 file structure. Any help from somebody who has a 20 would be really helpful. If he can't free some memory he's going to have to load more caches very selectively.
  6. You can get the total number of your DNFs quite quickly from your profile. This also shows those caches which have been archived so you may find that you are dealing with a much smaller number.
  7. Agreed. A new small box type cache (permission given) was put in the roots of a tree over 1m from a wall where I work. It was an old wall, had stood for years and was no longer required but it only took a few weeks to flatten. The cache was regularly returned to the tree but finders seemed to prefer building stone camo instead. Yes, we could have asked for it to be moved but the wall was due for demolition anyway.
  8. Got it. Barefootjeff noted it was missing on 2nd April and Monsterbox noted it was fixed by the next day. Same Release notes thread Jan 17th. Also screen capture of the relevant screen on Barefootjeff's post.
  9. Does anyone know when that Personal Notes filter option disappeared from the Advanced Search, and if it was raised and requested to be returned before yesterday's change? It may have disappeared when they recently updated that search filter form layout... when was that? I've found a post by ratjam 22nd Jan under Release Notes (Website: new Search/Map) - January 17, 2019 when the filter was missing. From memory, there was another post soon after when it came back. I've used it this week but can't remember which screen although it wasn't the new search map which I don't use. I'm still looking for the other post.
  10. >Did the Search Map ever have that option? IRC the advanced search did. Did they remove it? The option was somewhere. I seem to remember this was discussed around January. I bookmarked all my personal note and corrected co-ordinate caches at the beginning of this week although I can't remember precisely how/where but it was a "select the option" type box. Now the option is gone.
  11. I received an email Take your geocaching into the future dated mid evening 230419 and the change is the last line before the piccies at the bottom.
  12. The only longest flight I know is the Tardebigge flight near Worcester. I opened and closed every one of the 30 locks and walked (err, ran) most of the 2+ miles as our boss was quicker than me. I haven't experienced the Caen Hill flight so pass.
  13. And I knew why but only part of the what so I googled too.
  14. I don't use The App or any app but I'm interested to know ........ For an app user, the first logical question would seem to be "Is there a cache near here?" Which screen comes next in an app - the search or the browse type map?
  15. Perhaps these experienced people could give us some tips on how the new look maps should be used to accomplish what we are wanting to do? A step by step guide would be useful as we are obviously not using the new system to its best advantage as we are only beginners.
  16. We have around 3500 in our Cumbria file and around 16500 in Cumbria/Lancashire/Manchester/Merseyside. We used a combination of PQs, GSAK and Project GC.
  17. And another vote for the ability to browse. We find the new search map very limiting and hard to read. We would not choose it but feel we will be forced to use it to get to other screens.
  18. No, I've been out caching ;-)) I think I half know but can't be precise enough so am waiting for somebody to answer correctly.
  19. Apparently Polaris is ranked within the top 50 brightest stars but Sirius / the Dog Star / Alpha Canis Majoris is the brightest. So that's a bright ding to Optimist on the run.
  20. I know of three names for the brightest star in the night sky. Can you name one of them?
  21. And for those of us on older systems, it's not working on Opera on Windows 8. The link is the same as GPO's and entering manually finds the required lists.
  22. I thought I'd give the map another go since the new release. I picked my area and sorted by near to far and the result was not as expected. The cache Carreg Arthur is the green trad on the far left of the screen. The nearest to Llanberis is cluster of yellows and the unfound trad Taw next to the plus sign. If I use the old search I get a list of the ones I have found plus Taw at 1.5km and Carreg Arthur at 4km. So, from where does the new map measure distance?
