  1. Yeah! - much oblig'd Cap'n, and all yer crew. It were grand last year, I still chuckle thinkin' on't. T' little 'uns be pesterin' all the time "when we goin' back t' Newcastle?" cachewidda
  2. Okay, this is really getting stupid. Remember, after several organized events and encounters in the field, this is no longer an anonymous forum. We all know each other and we know how silly this is getting. Let's abide by the old adage 'least said soonest mended' and get on with caching. I for one will start, and promise this is the only post I will forthwith enter concerning this entire situation.
  3. sorry - did I miss the link to something to do with geocaching?
  4. What motivates me? Being with my husband when I would otherwise be at home alone. Getting my kids out of the house while I still have time to shape their lives (they're still young). Having my own gpsr, thanks to Team K (mixed feelings about this - I really should stick to my convictions & donate it to someone who needs it - but the things are so dadgum addicting!). Reading cache logs and trying to be clever with my own. Connecting with people from everywhere through this unbelievable medium of the web.
  5. Hey everybody! Don't quit on me now - I have finally gotten around to placing a cache. No, there are no $$, but I hope that won't stop you.
  6. Haven't found one I like yet. Been a back seat geocacher for a year now - even though I didn't know about it for the first couple of weeks. I have even been allowed to hold the gpsr on occasion and look myself. On day the budget will allow for a second model. Been to several locations, but only found two on my own. Count up v-royd and c-royd in the estrogen brigade too!
  7. Hope you all have a good holiday. Forecast is for rain in Victoria but maybe this means eroyd will spend the whole day with us this year . Just kidding. All the best to our new-found friends and our yet-to-be-met friends in 2003.
  8. As a mom with young kids always around, if my husband & I find some privacy at the spur of the moment, we're gonna take it! Really, though, what's with the prudery about removing the underwear just so kids won't see it, like they don't know that women wear panties, but leaving the dirty used condoms to pollute the environment? We try to always carry a bag to remove all trash. Happy hunting!
  9. With the activity evident in South Vancouver Island, I could see this catching on. Yikes! now I'll never see eroyd!
  10. Do we really need to formalize it? People post notes about their intentions on cache pages all the time before they actually solve them. I think we can rely on the honour system, but you could post a photo of the tax receipt if you want, why not? While we are on the subject of notes on cache pages, why don't we all stick to pertinent and/or exciting details of the chase, and try to avoid the psychoanalysis/carping/mental diarrhea that seems to be the newest trend? Save it for the forums and private email.
  11. Thank you eroyd for helping to crystallize my thoughts on this situation (see Bold Endurance). I am thankful this chase turned around all the acrimony from Rest & be Thankful. At first I was miffed at spending another weekend hearing the colour commentary – no home computer so I can’t even participate in the final calc’s – not even the play by play as I had to wait until it was all over. Green with envy – it has been too long since I was on the islands enjoying the view. Then, I started to hear what eroyd was saying about the spirit of the adventure, how everyone joined in the rivalry the way it was intended to be. And reading the posts, I see everyone else was struck by how spontaneous was the fun. Maybe it was the weather, maybe the excitement of a BC ferry ride, maybe the million dollar view, I don’t know. Soooo – lets turn the clock to zero honey, and start a new philosophy. Any cacher finding money or items convertible to money should donate such items to charity. Do the Celebrity Jeopardy and declare for a cause, then we watchers can cheer for “our” team – maybe place some side pledges. No one visiting our home could accuse us of living in luxury, but we pay the mortgage and can give our girls a loving and secure childhood. The rest of us do not need these toys, and the Team obviously has money to burn, and so many kids have absolutely nothing. Lets put our hearts into the chase, like so many profess to do, and do the right thing. Otherwise, it is all about money, and nothing else. As for how expensive it is to do these Team caches, lots of people spend stupid amounts of money on skiing and golf, or watching a bunch of overpaid prima donnas prance around on a playing field. Just my thoughts. cachewidow
  12. A reeaally short one. They don't call me the widow because I'm black. Good thing eroyd posts a picture, v-royd & c-royd keep forgetting what he looks like. [This message was edited by cachewidow on December 10, 2002 at 12:21 PM.]
  13. purchasing agent, website maintenance person, shipping room supervisor, mom of 2, wife, occasionally have time to be a normal person.
  14. Huh? A new what? If that is some component of our new furnace I guess that's okay, but otherwise there has been no discussion at my dinner table. Must be his other cachewidow.
  15. As someone who has cached vicariously for a while now (hence the moniker - I know I am a neophyte at real caching), I don't think these Team KFWB GPS caches are necessarily bad, just different. God knows eroyd has spent a lot of time since this has hit the south island, figurin' and ritin' and runnin' 'round, but I like to think as he does, that it is a welcome mental challenge, and for all that effort it is neat to get such a reward. He also spends lots of time assisting v-royd and c-royd with easier "traditional" ones locally. With other outdoor sports such as fishing and hunting dying a slow death, geocaching is a great alternative. Anyway it gets him out in the woods where he likes to be. The conflict recently has been unfortunate, but I don't think they are any indication of the general spirit locally of geocachers, or the sport. Just my thoughts.
