  1. They`re great fun for newbies, and seem so cool at first. Me, I still like lifting a skirt once in a while. Who doesn`t like a raised skirt.
  2. Hmmm...I guess more info would be in order. To use for geocaching as a supplemnt/back-up to our Garmin 550, this way we both have our own units instead of tossing the one back and forth.
  3. So what then is the difference between "grabbed" and "retrieved"? Why use one over the other?
  4. Is there a way to transfer the dat on a regular sized SDHC card to either my laptop or onto a micro SDHC card?
  5. Is it worthwhile to purchase a new Garmin Extrex Vista H for $60.00CDN?
  6. Do nothing, say nothing. You play the game you want to play it and let them play it the way they want to play it. Oh, by the way. It's etiquette. Not edicate. See. Did you like that?
  7. A properly done power trail can be a great way for newbies to learn the craft of Geocaching. We have one in our area, it has a great mix of hides and containers from micro to at least one that must be a two gallon container. It also has some great history for those inclined to actually read the description. There are also several terrific historical locations on the trail.
  8. That reminds me, I gotta log a DNF on that two millionth cache in Australia. I've scoured Google Earth and simply CANNOT see it!
  9. On the weeken while caching a trail we noticed several trees that had rocks placed on them. Some on cut stumps, some wedged into nooks. We wondered why they were there...trail markers of some kind or part of another game? Has anyone else seen this or know what it's about? Oh, it was obvious from the placement that they had to have been placed there on purpose.
  10. You're a day late for April Fools day, bud.
  11. Well spent an hour yesterday watching an new show on YTV Canada called Cache Craze, apparently based on geocaching! Teams were sent on missions to find a cache where they had to perform tasks that would reveal a number of new caches, the amount depending on how well they completed the task. They would then run around looking for the caches (basically stickers they took pics of) each worth a certain number of points. They had to go to a couple of different task caches before going to the end. Kind of Amazing Race combined with geocaching all done within the city of Toronto. It was kind of interesting...lol...and funny in parts. Who knew?! Anyone else catch it?
  12. I'm looking at the Oregon 550, I found a price for $329.00, is that a decent price? Sheesh..it's like buying a car or computer, once you get it something better and cheaper always comes along. Sometimes it's better to bite the bullet and just get what suits your needs then never, ever look at advertising again!
  13. We use the Geocaching app, it's $10 and syncs with the website...very handy.
  14. As far as I can see the only difference between the garmin Oregon 450 and 450t is that the 450t comes preloaded with USA maps...being in Canada am I better off just getting the 450? (Or 550 or 650 for that matter). Thanks.

  16. Just this past Sunday I had some snow fall into my shoe whilst I crossed a small sno bank to get at a cache....it was COLD! I think I've learned more with this thread than all the other combined. Carry a pokie stick. Carry wet-wipes. Carry Black Widow anti-venom. Carry scorpion anti-venom. Carry rattlesnake ant-venom. Carry honey. (To draw ants away from the cache) Carry tweezers. Carry a blindfold. (To keep the possum asleep) Carry a smoke bomb. Carry sugar cubes. (To draw coons away from the cache) Carry calomine lotion. Get my hep vaccine. Get my tetnus vaccine. NEW!!! Courtesy The Incredibles! Carry extra batteries for my GPS. Carry extra batteries for my I-Phone. Carry salt. (For the cougar). Get a bigger backpack. Thanks everyone!!!
  17. Thanks for basically confirming what we thought to be the case...and we did check the plates, they are part of the post and are screwed in. We'll check again at a later date when it's not so muggley!
  18. Is hiding a cache inside a cover plate of an LPC that requires the seeker to unscrew said plate okay? We found an LPC but found nothjing, we did, however, see two access plates screwed into the post. We didn't much feel like trying to get inside to see if it was indeed there. It didn't have a skirt and we could see or feel nothing underneath so are pretty sure it's gone, but we wonder...
  19. and unless some clouds get in the way! Also keep in mind that Floridabiker is the same person who feels it's just fine to not sign logs and count them as found.
  20. Is $120.00 (Canadian) for a used Garmin gpsmap 60cs with belt clip and Mapsource CD in like new condition complete with packaging an okay price?
  21. Like I said in my other posts there is no more to this story. And if there is any editorial in my profile it would be that I don't understand why people get up at 5am every day so they can dash out the door and drive 20 miles to get an LPC. Just like non-Geocachers not understanding why any of us go out at any time GPS in hand looking for little boxes with little more than scraps of paper and dime store trinkets in them. I read your profile as making those types of FTFers as jerks or losers for wanting to be the first No one likes to be called a jerk or a loser.
  22. Thanks everyone for your great answers! We're learning more and more and to us proves why people should get plenty of experience finding before hiding or even 'moving along' bugs.
  23. We always sign the logs. One of the biggest joys for us after actually finding the cache is opening it and signing the log. So far we have found two where they were frozen solid and we caouldn't remove or open them to sign the log. We marked as found and will return to sign at the first thaw oppourtunity. Since we are new it neve occoured to us to do more than sign the physical log...perhaps now we'll add a few comments or tidbits about ourseleves. At least on the ones larger than a rolling paper. Oh yeah, we are both 5'3" and shorter. Sometime we have to climb or jump to crab the cache, so I kind of resent the implications that size is a hinderance. Besides we don't have to stoop as low to get the under the tree ones. Does that mean Kobe Bryant shouldn't have to grab them and sign?
  24. I'm trying to decide between the Garmin Oregon 450t and the Garmin GPM MAP 62s, what would be the better buy for Geocaching and what would be a good price range for them? Also what are good options I should be asking for? (memory, maps...etc..).
