    CrapCrapCrap!

What does this thread have to do with crap? Please try to use more appropriate titles...

  3. quote:Originally posted by cycyclist:Could it be that when the info is parsed that if the last log entry is a "note" then it screws with the stat board for that TB? Yep, That's a problem with the current stats board. If there's no cache related to the last log then distance isn't properly calculated. (If you really want to see the correct distance for those, my temporary stats page has them.)
  4. quote:Originally posted by Mixster:(haven't gotten the CSV to work that Egnix posted) Anyone else having problems? Here's what I do... from S&T select "Import Data Wizard..." from the Data menu select the csv file make sure it's set use Comma as the separating field make sure the "First row contains column headings" box is checked and bingo! you should have pushpins....
  5. While we all wait for the official site to be fully operational, you can visit my personal links/stats page. Trying to organize the various links posted already.
  6. I haven't had much luck getting people interested in caching. Most people wonder why I spend hours walking though the woods looking for tupperware. Sigh... The thing I'm almost getting tired of is this: friend: "Hey! How's it going? What did you do today?" me: "I went geocaching!" friend: "Oh, right...I should have guessed..." friend: "...So what did you find?" Oh well. I have made 1.5 converts so far...
  7. That's because Microsoft won't conform to standards. On the generated HTML file they use a '' instead of a '/' in the link to the map image. BTW Mixster, if you're going to keep yours updated I'll quit doing mine. No sense in having two people doing the same thing. Besides, it will give me more time to work on the database stuff...
  8. For kicks you can try to go here for current stats and the CSV file. This site will be up and down, so no guarantee you'll get to it...but if you do, enjoy... *Updated: .CSV link now works. [This message was edited by Egnix on March 11, 2003 at 03:04 PM.]
  9. I'm hoping this is a feature of the new&improved site that's being worked on. (wink wink, nudge nudge!)
  10. So Mixster, Are you hand entering all the data? If you'd like I can just post my CSV file which has basically the same info...and it's all automatically generated...
  11. Okay...so is my map no longer needed? Or would it help Mixster if I included my CSV file (which is similar to his xls file)? I don't want to waste time duplicating efforts...
  12. Until the official map page is up, I'll try to update my map daily. I'll aim to update it between 5&6pm EST. And to keep from clogging up this thread I won't be posting "I just updated my map" posts. If it's after 6pm just assume it's been updated
  13. I've been getting emails from people saying I left their bug off my list only to find that their bug includes HTML tags in its name...and like I keep saying...my program cannot properly handle that at this time. I'm very sorry my program doesn't like HTML tags in names. It's just way too low priority of an item to work on right now. I figured it would be pretty harmless to ask folks to (at least temporarily) change their bug name....... So to spell it out for you... example legal name: RacerX example illegal name: RacerX * Also things like quotation marks are bad too.. 14. Okay...since I realized it looks like two cars have moved, here's the map. You can click on the [car] icon to bring up the bug's page. Note though that since most bugs are in the same spot there's only one link for that location.
  15. I was going to post a map of the current bug location, but it looks like the only car that has moved is the pace car. So instead, here's the list I have for the stats/tracking page. If your bug is not listed it because either I accidentally missed it or because the bug name is currently un-parsable. 16. This will probably be my last post before the race starts so I thought I'd give a heads up on what I know about the stats/tracking page... I've been working with Dekaner on this. My part retrieves the raw data and Dekaner's part throws stats/etc. on a web page. Things are looking great on my end, but I've heard very little from Dekaner. So...it's looking like it will be at least a couple days before there's anything to look at. But don't worry, we won't be losing any historical data. [This message was edited by Egnix on March 07, 2003 at 05:23 PM.]
  17. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do this...but I do... To those of you who have non-alphanumeric charachers (i.e. anything other than numbers and letters) in your bug's name... you may not get your stats on the stats/tracking site. Right now parsing out extra stuff in bug names is super low priority. If time permits when everything else is working I may look at this again, but for now I'm removing non-compliant bugs from my list. (Remember, this is just for the stats/tracking site. This isn't removing any bug from the race.) If your bug has extra stuff in its name and you correct it, please email me so I can add it back in. Thanks.
  18. beta page: Dekaner is doing the web site. I've been waiting for about a week now for him to give me the database table info...so I'd be surprised to see a beta site. (nudge nudge to Dekaner: I could use the table info! ) bugs recently sent to Brogan: Brogan has told me that the last batch of bugs will be logged Friday night. If the bug doesn't arrive by friday it won't make it to the Byrncliff event.
  19. I saw that all the graves in the Travel Bug Graveyard have been empied and that all the bugs went to "the pearly gates." Anyone have the scoop on this major news event?
  20. quote:Originally posted by kcny:Bump. Anyone else got the Legend to work with MS Streets and Trips. I can't get my legend to work with MS S & T. Make sure your Etrex "interface" is set to NMEA and make sure your S&T is set to use the correct serial port. That should do it.
  21. quote:Originally posted by robertlipe: quote:Out of curiosity, why not include the URL in the CSV output? Because CSV is meant to be a very simple format, parsable by almost anything and S&T is the only program I've heard of that knows what to do with a URL in such a file format. This is why different programs have different "strains" of CSV. IMO, being a URL doesn't break the very simple format. I don't think you can have commas in a URL, can you? Anyway, moot point I guess since newer versions support S&T. (Although other apps could come along that import CSV... )
  22. quote:Originally posted by robertlipe:Tell me more about this (either on the GPSBabel mailing list or privately if you like). I don't have S&T, but looking at the s&t output, it definitely has the URL information in it and others have reported success with the URL in S&T. Are you sure you're using the S&T format and not plain-old CSV? The output should look approximately like: I'll reply here since there's at least one other person in my shoes (guess I'm wearing big shoes! )... I don't see a S&T output option. I'm using ver. 1.1.0. Do I need something more recent? Out of curiosity, why not include the URL in the CSV output?
  23. I'm hoping someone here has been in the situation I'm in...(and has found a solution). I use pocket queries to help me both plan what caches I'm going to and help me find the planned caches (using both GPSr and PDA). I use Streets&Trips for the planning then use GPXSpinner or GPX2HTML to put the cache info onto the PDA. Right now I'm finding I have to use 2 pocket queries with the same settings except one gets a .loc file while the other a .gpx file. If I just get GPX, GPSBabel loses the URL when converting to CSV for S&T. If I just get LOC then I can't do the PDA thing (and no, I'm not going back to Mobipocket). Anyone have solution?
  24. quote:Originally posted by Criminal:"The fallen log points the way" ARGGGGG!! There are at least 12 fallen logs pointing 24 different ways! Gotta reply to this one... I had one that told me to look near a pile of fallen trees. I searched and searched around the 3 piles closest to the coords. I later found the cache off under a tree lying all by itself! What kind of pile was that!? Another frustrating one was when the hint tried to describe a certain tree and said how far away from said tree the cache was. You wouldn't believe have many trees I found that matched that description! One of my other favorites told me where to park and how to get to the cache from that parking location. A lot of good that did me when I didn't know to park there until I was within 70 feet of the cache!
