  1. For those wondering about the status on the stats... It's probably going to be Monday before I get to get the stats updater working again. I've very sorry for the long outage. My backup plan didn't work....
  2. So you all know... Race stats are not currently being updated. I'm in the process of moving so I knew there might be some delays and outages, but as it turns out I can't create updates at all at this moment. I'll try to get something working as soon as I can. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  3. Yeah, looks like the Cannonball Cop (sic) doesn't abide by the laws. I see that Cannonball Runner Vince, Give Peace A Chance, and The Invisible Man's X-Wave Scooter have jumped over Pennsylvania...are there others?
  4. I had a race with two of my bugs. One got to the finish line in a little over a month, The other is still out there going on it's 6th month.
  5. Regoarrar, any updates on this? Ideas on the set of rules, when it would start, etc? If it doesn't prevent me from entering the race, I can try to adapt my Cannonball Run race stats page for this if you'd like.
  6. quote:Originally posted by welch:I realized the stats and the map do not update at the same time, but as for why neither had updated since 24th was a mystery. When I read your post, the stats were current, though now I see there hasn't been an update since last night. That could be from the problem you saw before or perhaps a new problem... I haven't seen it happen in a while, but in the past sometimes there weren't updates when geocaching.com was too slow and my update program timed out. Anyway, the next update is due in a little over a half hour...I'll try to see if I can, um, see anything. [This message was edited by Egnix on April 27, 2003 at 05:46 PM.]
  7. I really like this idea. There's been a bit of discussion on the Cannonball thread about alternatives, and I keep thinking that it would really help to be able to have bugs start from anywhere yet be able to complete a common goal. While the CannonballRun race is fun, I think there are many problems/disadvantages with it.
  8. When you see freeway traffic coming to a stop and you're able to get off at the next exit and still find your way home because caches have taken you all around that area already.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Trailblazer # 1:Should have took your fishun pole as the cache page suggests..Sorry for the mishap, thought that I would poke a little fun at you,I could Imagine myself in your boat, that sounds like the things that happen to me...Thats Life..HappyGeotrails. His boat!? What boat? If he had a boat he could have rescued the cache!
  10. Keep in mind what the geocaching.com FAQ says: quote:What shouldn't be in a cache? Use your common sense in most cases. Explosives, ammo, knives, drugs, and alcohol shouldn't be placed in a cache. Respect the local laws. All ages of people hide and seek caches, so use some thought before placing an item into a cache.
  11. They paid for the bug, so they have the right to name it whatever they want. Shouldn't matter if the bugs have been released or not.
  12. Anyone know a cacher by the nickname of 'LaxTraxx'? According to the (physical) logbook, 'LaxTraxx & Crew' retrieved my Tom, the continuing story bug travel bug from In Gorged on 9/2/02 but the bug (nor even the cache find) was logged and the bug hasn't been seen since. If anyone has any information the the whereabouts of Laxtraxx or Tom, please email me. Thanks.
  13. Keep in mind that approvals are done by a group of volunteers. Also, with Spring just arriving, there are a lot of new caches getting placed lately. I wouldn't be suprised by delays this time of year.
  14. It all depends. Of my 13 bugs on the loose (my first was launched last August): 1 lasted about 1 month then was stolen along with the cache it was in 1 was taken from it's first cache and never seen again 1 lasted 3 months and then was lost by the person who took it 1 lasted a few weeks then was taken by someone who hasn't even logged on to geocaching.com in 4 months The other 9 seem to be doing okay (actually that should be 8 as one has accomplished it's goal and is back in my possession). So... you really can't say. A bug can last years or it can have a lifespan of 1 day. I'd definately get a few and try not to have your hopes to high. Even with ~30% of my bugs missing I'm still enjoying the ones that are still active. [This message was edited by Egnix on April 03, 2003 at 08:44 AM.]

  16. In case anyone notices...My site will probably be down tonight.
  17. I'm not skilled enough to properly Markwell you, but Jeremy explained this a while back. He basically said that it's a timing issue: sometimes the database hasn't been updated before the email script gets kicked off. It's a known problem, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a fix when the new site arrives.
  18. Okay, no more suggestions! Just kidding... Though most of my bug tracking time jumped out the window this afternoon. I should be able to continue supporting Dekaner with the official site, but that will probably be about it.
  19. Thought I'd post this here to see if there was any interest. The Wilderness Center in SW Stark County (http://www.wildernesscenter.org ) is having a trail clean-up day on Earth Day (4/26). Groups can even "Adopt A Trail" for cleanup. I think this could be a great way to thank The Wilderness Center for allowing and sponsoring caches and also get some positive geocaching publicity for Stark County. While there people can also visit the "Wilderness Center Tower" and "Wilderness Center Spring" caches. And if that's not enough there are more caches just a few miles away. If anyone is interested in getting a group together to adopt a trail, please contact me. Also, if there are people interested in Earth Day CITO in Cuyahoga or Lake Counties, I can refer you to people trying to organize something in those areas as well. P.S. Feel free to check out the NE OH Geocachers (NEOGeo) group - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEOGeocachers/

  21. (My subconscious is telling me I should post this in an effort to increase my procrastination of doing really important things...) I'm wondering if there's a statistic or feature people are just dying to see for the race. I think race position has been a big plus, but is there something else that would be really cool to have?
  22. The quote problem and the official site data feed have been fixed.
  23. Okay...I've gone done screwed up the data feed to the official site somehow. Sorry about that. Hopefully I can get it fixed soon...
  24. For another "until the official site has this, you can go here" feature... I've updated my stats page (click 'Current Stats') to list current race positions of all the bugs (well all the bugs I normally show). I haven't verified that it's 100% accurate, but I thought it looked good enough to post... ...actually I know it's not 100% accurate...and that's because of those stupid quotation marks in some cache names. (So if a bug has been logged into a cache which has quote marks in it's name, that log will be ignored.) I'll work on that next...
