  1. not sure about an exact number, but for me EVERGREEN TREES are my downfall, for some reason everything blends in and i can not see the trees because of the forest....some how that relates to this??!!
  2. i have a few that have been held 'hostage' for 2 years, every once in a while i will shoot off an email to 'remind' them about the coin. I have even offered to send a pre-paid envelope to send the coin back to me....but.... we will see. it' sad..and expensive!! good luck
  3. few years ago we went to London, England and we made up a separate TB of a matchbox car for each of our family (x4) and dropped them off in England with the idea they were on a race to one of our caches back in Ohio, first one back won! We laminated a card with details, etc... and 3 out of the 4 made it back so far...mine was MIA for a while and now is in Wisc. somewhere. We enjoyed seeing where each TB went on it's race back to the states. hopefully yours will make it. maybe find a cache over there for a final destination?
  4. I wear a G-string WOW!! Me too!! Phew..I thought I was the only one....people tend to look away...works GREAT!!
  5. I know what you are talking about (lampost micros)! This mirco took 20-25 mins of searching before i found the little guy!! We simply acted like we knew what we were doing??!! We normally just say: 'we're on a 'high-tech' treasure hunt using a GPS'.
  6. couple of things for this pic, one, i did not take it..simply copied it from another post somewhere simply because it is soo funny!! i hope you did not think i was being serious and did not realize people inspected pics so closely, did not realize the pole was not centered?! does that really deserve a mad smiley ??? come on now...let's have some fun with this...
  7. OK, I got really mad when someone took a picture of one of my famous light pole NANO caches!! so now everyone kinda knows what part of the light pole to look at to find this well hidden cache!!
  8. Geocaching: A good hike spoiled by a million dollar satellite! And: Carpe Cache!! (our tag line/forum signature)
  9. for TB tags i have found some great deals on ebay and they are cheaper than the Groundspeak store, you just to look & price out for shipping, etc...
  10. There is no 'magic' number you need to find first, once you get the 'idea' for caching, then you will be able to place one just fine. I think we placed our first one after we found 5-6 caches....and still there after 4 years.
  11. Apparently, you don't remember how that movie ends. at least we went down yelling & screaming!!!!! ATTICA!!!!
  12. ATTICA! ATTICA! ATTICA!! everyone with me.... ATTICA! ATTICA! ATTICA!!
  13. OK, i need to confess I am the 201st user of KML & google earth!! Sorry if a messed things up for everyone?! PLEASE add me to the list of the 200 regular (prior) users of this GREAT feature. When going on a trip, how easy it was to simply follow the road and see what caches pop-up along the way and then click to get more info. The geocache map is simply slower to load and i miss my Google Earth. maybe one day...some way...I know... ATTICA! ATTICA! ATTICA!! everyone with me.... ATTICA! ATTICA! ATTICA!!
  14. i keep track of the alignment of the sun/moon & stars and then i can track a cache...lol.
  15. for me, it was a flat magnet with letters/numbers on it and it blended in with the metal object it was on. you had to 'peel' off the cache to sign the log paper taped to the back of this 'thin' cache.
  16. I hate to give away a spoiler but...... this may help in the future! It took me a few minutes to find this one...but with lots of patience I found it!!! These micros are fun!
  17. not very exciting, just a lamp post...they said there was a micro-cache near-by but...another DNF! those micro's are HARD!!
  18. going on 3 years with our etrex blue legend, and have found 336 caches so far with it....seems to work for us....you load up waypoints and it points in the direction you need to go....hmmm... seems like that is what a GPS is to do..esp. with geocaching. until ours just wears out i do not see any need to 'upgrade', the blue legend is A-OK in our book.
  19. you can throw your unit my way! i think you will get this, between the drivers, ports, etc.. it took me alitte while to get my computer to 'find' my Etrex unit. hang in there!! (but if you do throw it our, remember me! )
  20. Hey, I just happy to see you use the word PLETHORA!! what a cool word!! We should try to use this word in our conversations everyday!
  21. you will need to provide a contact person and/or permit number for an earthcache. it's on part of the form you submit for approval. If you meet with someone and explain out what an earthcache is, etc.... hopefully you will get permission. good luck!!

as a family last year we each had a hot wheel TB and we went on a trip to London England and found a cache over there and the goal was for our TB to race back home to a set cache of ours near our home. look at one of these TB's: TB1RKFT to see how we set it up. 3 out 4 made it back home, mine is MIA in Wisc. somewhere! We did print out specific instructions/goals and attached to each TB. It was fun for each family member to watch the progress of their TB!
  23. taking the time to read prior log entries has helped me, and jot down any little tid-bit that may help to find a cache...the goal is to find the cache and if that means getting more info from someone else i thinks that's OK, not cheating, and you still need to go out and find it...even with all that info. Other than that, i can share that after looking around ground zero and just nothing seems right, then simply start expanding your search area and keeping making your area larger and you then should come upon something that looks 'unnatural' and realize that your GPS was throwing you off that day. OH yea... not sure if anyone else has shared: LOOK UP! sometimes we are so focused on the ground, that cache may be right over your head or at eye level and you simply need to look up from the ground!
  24. TRIPLE WOW!! how very cool! I made a birthday cake for my son one year of a campfire using ho-ho snake cakes for the logs, etc... but this really takes the cake!!
