  1. No need to sound nasty though. I still love him lol!
  2. You probably should only mention the caches in public parks to him and perhaps go to or organize a small CITO event and tell him about it. Find a public area that could use some volunteer help to clean up, and notify the local authorities of your plans. They likely will be enthusiastic and provide bags, gloves and some help. Good idea! Will they?
  3. I tried to take some friends caching, but they got embarrassed even with no one around.
  4. Thank you for your advice! This is true! Urbans are my favorite. I have introduced Geocaching to some friends! We love going!
  5. I thought this was going to be about unsupportive family members who don't "get" Geocaching. Mrs.Yuck thinks Geocaching is stupid, and has been along for maybe 15 of my 2,600 or whatever finds. I did get her to attend her first event in December, 2012, but that's only because it was at a winery. Most Geocachers don't care, but something at a Gas station really is private property, and published under an assumption of permission policy, even though we all know darn well almost every one of such caches have no permission. I can actually see where he's coming from, and I won't go after caches on private property unless the cache page tells me there is permission. But I'm sure I'm in the less than 1% minority there. Where was this cache he removed? Do you have a GC number? I am pretty sure it is this one. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=121c9b75-ddf8-41c0-895e-def0a2d633e2
  6. Hmmm...maybe show him a listing where there are details about the property owner's permission. In my area, some cache listings give the name of the owner who granted permission. Also, some townships give written permission after a required application in filed for caches in township parks. And take him to a nice location. Then again, maybe he'll never be into caching. That's a really good idea. Around here, I don't see many names of people granting permission.
  7. My stepfather works for a property management company, and he says that he hates Geocaching because "they don't respect private property" and that he found one at his building, removed the cache, and left a note saying not to come back. I said that the CO should have asked permission first, and if I found something like that, I'd report it if it went against the wishes of the owners of the property. Today, we were at a gas station, and I got really excited because my app said that we were 170 feet away from an easy find, so I asked if I could go get it, and while my mom wouldn't have minded, he said no, that it was probably private property, and that "these people [Geocachers] get a thrill out of doing things they shouldn't be doing", and that whenever I am with him, I am not allowed to Geocache. Is there anything I can say or do? I am over 18, so I can always do it otherwise, but it hurts that he doesn't respect my hobby.
  8. I had this thought the other day! If I don't donate my body to science, I want a cache at my grave. Or a memorial cache.
