  1. Wow... this is a really nice thread... Like Jennifer said... finding friends that you will have forever. Sometimes you even find that one person who makes your life worth living. All the kind words folks pass along and the help that is offered when you need it. BTW.. nice job on the certificate Stunod. Don't let him fool ya.. he's a really good guy.
  2. I agree... it is nice to have the abilitiy to look up very basic cache info. Ratings, last found, type, owner, hints If you are ever out without your Palm it really comes in handy.
  3. Well it looks like it's all been said here. Add me to the list of very happy eXplorist 500 owners. I've had mine since May and I couldn't be happier. The file structure is great, reception is excellent, the color screen is awesome and the expandable memory (1 gig SD card in mine) is really what sold the unit for me. Say you are caching with another Explorist user and they don't have their files loaded for some odd reason. You can swap SD cards and they can copy the waypoints to their unit. Nice, easy and quick.. everybody is happy. Can't do that witht he Garmin. But that's just one small example of why I like it. Durability isn't as issue since it's been dropped a few times and it is fine. I was a big time Garmin guy before I saw the new Explorists. Magellan got it right as far as I'm concerned. Yes.. I would buy another one.
  4. We use a one inch circular punch (similar to this)) to make the stickers for our personal poker chips. We just print the design off on normal sticker and the punch it out for a perfect circle every time. Yep.. that's what I use for my chips. It works great and I can knock them out fast.
  5. Can you list these sites? I like what you have done...
  6. Here is a link to her website. Yes.. they are very cool.
  7. Here's why I would tend to say multi's are not my favorite type of cache... What is the point of hiding a multi stage cache when the stages don't really serve a purpose other than to make you find a film canister in a tree 500 feet away from the previous spot? Nothing special to see or neat hiding technique. Makes no sense to me. Seems too many multis are just placed for the sake of adding stages. I was very guilty of this early on and try not to be a repeat offender. Just my stupid opinion.
  8. That's all fine and nice but did you find the cache?
  9. I'm not a rabid collector but I do collect. I really like the cointracking.com site because it gives me an avenue to post my poker chips so they get exposed to other collectors for trades. It's totally worth the $5 IMHO. I have my "inventory" on an excel spreadsheet so I wasn't worried and I am in the process of developing a webpage on my geocaching site for all my sig items. Thanks to the guys at cointracking.com for doing what you could as fast as you could to get things back up and running.
  10. sirflapjack ... If you really want to know what is the "right thing" to do , just ask the voice of geocaching ethics & consciousness. I'm sure he would be happy to tell you what to do with it.
  11. Here's how I've handled it in the past. Send a nice email notifying the cacher that posting TB numbers in the logs is not a good idea and explain why. Wait a bit to see if they respond. If not, then delete it and explain why you deleted it. Maybe they didn't know any better (which is probably the case) so give them a chance to correct the situation.
  12. I guess you can call me fortunate... I was once married to Satan's Daughter. No matter what the activity, if it was away from her watchful and paranoid eye, it was deemed bad. When I discovered geocaching it was during the first separation. The kids loved it intially and when we tried to reconcile, she seemed to enjoy it a bit also. But that soon changed when she was comfortable again. Because I was away form her watchful and paranoid eye (even when I had my son with me), geocaching was deemed bad and evil. We separated for good and good fortune smiled upon me in a big way. I was blessed to have met someone who enjoys caching as much as I do. We developed our realtionship and friendship while walking to caches over a period of a few months. It has led to the best relationship I have ever experienced. Caching is still a regular thing. I can cache without her and she without me, but we prefer to cache with each other for the most part. Heck.. she will even run out in the middle on the night on XMAS Eve and drive 30 miles to snag a FTF with no complaints. We have organized caching events and spend long weekends out of town without a foul word to each other. As long as she doesn't want to swim in the middle of the night, we are ok. I catch no flack at all for posting in OT, more specifically cheers as much as I do. Heck.. she's busy with those f'in Neopets. So I no longer have that conflict of caching vs. relationship/ home time. Life is good and I am very lucky.
  13. There was group swimming at GB '05? Man, I missed it. I don't think there is a swimming hole at the fairgrounds........everybody bring a plastic pool with them! Yep there was.. but the "pass" cost $104.

Rupert said it... WOW! Well done. Nice tribute.
  15. Same here. I HAVE to log ASAP. Makes me crazy if I don't. I guess I have issues.
  16. The December chips are ready... Thanks to those who have traded with me for current & future chips.
  17. This is good discussion so far... The only other collectible I have ever been involved in was baseball cards. I dropped out a few years back for two reasons but one being there were just too many sets beieng produced and too many "Rare" or "Low Serial Numbered" cards. The set builders were priced right out of the market and kids can no longer afford to buy a pack at $5 - $10 per. I really liked the geocoin thing at first. Has it gotten out of hand? I think it has just a bit. I'm not racing to buy up every coin out there especially after reading the thread about how much cachers have spent on coins so far. The GC.com trackable thing confuses me. Why does it make it more "collectable" if they are never going to be activated and passed around? I have activated all my coins but, to prevent their disapparance, I have created "fake" coins using the tracking number from the actual coin to place in caches. At $6 + per coin they are too expensive to drop and never to be seen again. With all that being said, I like them, I will trade for coins that I don't have. I still buy a few but not with the same zeal I once had. I still prefer sig items over geocoins.
  18. Rupert, Thanks for the nice post and kind words. We had fun caching yesterday... oh and thanks for the caches. I hope we can get down there more often than we have. it's only 3 - 4 hours from home, depending on if it's my home or Fallenfaery's. We are planning a New Year's trip to St. Louis so Indy will have to wait at least one month but I am open to trades. I have two others that want a "monthly subscription". I'll post my December Edition here on the first. Hope to meet you some day. Maybe the next time we head on down that way.
  19. I had an idea and thought I might give it a try. It might be fun. All of my original poker chips are gone (Thanks to those that traded with me) and I thought it would be neat to produce a different chip each month. The chips would be limited to 100 maybe 50 depending and they are hand numbered. Once the month turns over, a new chip will be available. I'll post it in this thread on the first of each month. I decided to start things off with a tribute to my beloved World Series Champion White Sox. I have placed approx. 20 in caches so far and have traded a few. I am opening them up to my forum friends if anybody is interested. I'll trade these for wood nickels, poker chips, buttons or any other sig item you may have to offer. Some have even offered personal coins. Go figure. Just shoot me an email if interested. Thanks for checking this out. --SpEd
  20. I just activated a bunch of my coins and what I did was: --Scan both sides of the coin. -- Print it out on label paper. -- Used a circle cutter so it's nice and round. -- Placed it on a 2' wood circle. (Blank wood nickel) -- Light spray of clear coat. PRESTO! Geocoin that's ready to go and can be easliy copied if gone missing..
