  1. I agree that there is (or should be) common ground. But whether they are willing to live with it is another matter. Good thing that there is always the judge who will make the decision for them if they can't compromise. Now somebody make an analogy to get us back on topic.
  2. Same here originally. Clicking on his/her avatar here in the forums will result with the 0 finds profile. But clicking on Find another player while in my dashboard and typing in the full caching name ended up with different results.
  3. And finally acknowledged by a lackey in this topic: Whether that results in some action or not remains to be seen.
  4. Frau Potter just beat me to the punch.
  5. Although that may be true, has a lackey ever acknowledged this particular issue before? At least that is a step in the right direction.
  6. The nice thing about the combination of CHS automated emails and reviewers is that the reviewers have the final say putting the human touch in analysing the issues -- something an automated algorithm could never do. That why I would never get up in arms about getting the email which to me is just a friendly reminder.
  7. It might not be a fake log, but just fat fingers getting in the way of a correct date. I have done that before when logging late and have seen other I know do it as well.
  8. That's what I had guessed. As such, why would an OM be necessary to prevent being flagged, if subsequent Found it logs have been posted. If the Found it logs cure the problem, then "do nothing" IS an acceptable option.
  9. Yes to all of niraD's, but these two in particular, yes, yes!
  10. Certainly, that would be true if there is something flaggable such as an unanswered NM. That would make the CHS email more likely. But since I am not privy to the algorithms, is the existence of an unanswered NM required before the email is triggered?
  11. No. I only just saw it Thursday evening, some time after others were already talking about it in this topic. Maybe they are gradually adding people until it is published widely?
  12. Agreed! As best as I can remember, I have received 2. I wished that I had kept them so that I can quote exactly, but I think the opening line was something like "There may be a problem with your cache." No threats, no deadlines, just some suggested courses of action (although not complete, as "do nothing" is an acceptable option). One cache, I knew needed work, but I had put off getting around to it; the other one didn't. On the first cache, I went out and fixed it and posted an OM; on the other cache, I just ignored the email as I knew the cache was in good shape. Nothing has happened since.n The email didn't seem "nasty" to me, and is certainly undeserving of the title "nastygram." Some have called "nag-mail," another undeserved title as there isn't continued notices or supposed harrassment. Be that as it may, many are completely offended at the suggestion, accurate or not, that "there may be a problem with your cache" and "here are some possible courses of action." And with that offense often comes the threat of committing self-geocide similar to "I'm taking my toys and going home."
  13. Awesome tutorial!! Maybe it should be pinned somewhere.
  14. Wrong abbreviations. See bolded text below. That's correct. You can have decimals for the lowest unit of measurement and only the lowest unit. Below is the proper nomenclature used outside of geocaching: Decimal degrees (DD) can look like DD.DDD Degrees and decimal minutes (DMM) can look like DD MM.MMM Degrees, minutes, and seconds (DMS) can look like DD MM SS.SSS
  15. With this new change, it is interesting that they left the old map not merging it with the new. From the main page (www.geocaching.com/play/search) you can click on View geocaching near you and get the regular map (www.geocaching.com/map), but by clicking on the search icon next to where the Filters button used to be, you get the new map (www.geocaching.com/play/map?st=&zoom=16). So there is two versions "/map" and "/play/map". I suspect that when the new one is tweaked and bugs are essentially fixed, they will merge the two.
  16. Your right. You didn't allude. But it doesn't matter, TB prison or well-stocked cache, if you can take them all and move them, do so rather than making them wait a couple weeks, or worse, longer. Accomodate the TO now who wants his TB moved to Denver, where I just happen to be flying to tommorow; or accomodate the follow-on cacher who might show up in a couple weeks and might, or might not be able to fulfill the trackable's mission. Even if there are a dozen TBs -- accomodate a dozen TOs or accomodate a dozen follow-on cachers. To me the choice is simple. For the record, I don't always take them all, but I have several times. Yes, that is the point. Fun for the TO over fun for the follow-on cache finder. I'm sorry, perhaps I shouldn't have said it that way. But you did say it was "rude" to take all the trackables and asking me to "Leave some for someone else ... can't you share the fun," suggesting I am selfish. It seems there were more accusations in that comment than mine. And the problem with that is ... ? Again, I don't always take them all, because I can't always accomodate the mission or get them moved quickly. But when I can I will always move them not knowing when and if the next cacher will show up or whether the cache gets muggled. Your suggesting I'm not?
  17. This is similar to Project-GC's Virtual GPS that I can surgically select any cache to be added to a VGPS PQ while in GC.com or in Project-GC.com. See the bottom of the Log geocache portion of the screenshot below:
  18. This! With regular caches, I may take only one or two trackables, but if there is ever any sort of movement restriction listed on the cache description, I will always make a point to take them all.
  19. That's the faulty logic in TB prisons -- fun for CO and follow-on finders to the detriment of the TO -- and the part of my post that was left out in the quote. Obviously, every situation is different and we can't predict when the next cache finder will come along, and whether they have other trackables to "trade." If I come along a cache with multiple trackables and I can accomodate all the missions reasonably, you bet, I will take them all, especially if it is likely the next cacher won't be along in a couple weeks. That may sound selfish to the CO and follow-on finders, but no so for the TOs who will appreciate their trackables' moving rather than being stuck at the bottom of a prison. No its not like that at all. The mints don't have owners wanting them to be moved. Again your focus is all on follow-on finders with no concern to the TOs.
  20. Absolutely not rude!! If you can take them all and accomodate their movement or mission reasonably, do so. What is rude is a cache owner placing a policy of "you can only take one if you leave one" (or any other restriction) effectively creating a travel bug prison, rather than hotel, when a new cache finder cannot trade. Trackables are not trade items and trackable owners determine movement, not cache owners. The desires of the trackable owners are paramount. The desire of the cache owner to have lots of bugs to attract other cachers and the desires of those potential cachers hoping to spot a bug shouldn't be considered.
