  1. I have lived in Apple Valley, California, for the last several months and haven't had any problem. I have 3.7. But this week, I visited Colorado Springs, Colorado, and did a few caches. My compass pointer went nuts. Most of the time, it was exactly backwards, even the map page was backwards. Sometimes it was correct, but mostly backwards. Reading one of the posts above, I thought to try the new location option on the satellite page, but that option is grayed out and I can't select it. How do you do hard reset?
  2. Read my log for "Wildwash Off-Roading..." (GC9D0C). Although only 1.7 miles from the interstate, it takes about 3-4 miles of pretty rough roads to get to it. No problem with my Jeep. But like a complete MORON, I lock my keys in my Jeep. My wife was out of town and my insurance company's road-side assistance sent some help in a big tow truck. By this time it is dark. This guy couldn't follow directions, gets lost and stuck in some soft sand. I walk from my jeep to his truck about a mile (in the dark, in the desert) to assist. Once he got unstuck, he left me alone out in the desert, in the dark, a mile from my Jeep, and two miles from the interstate. My wife, (although out of state) calls a neighbor, tells him how to get in our house, find an extra set of keys and to meet me at the interstate. Although, I had my GPSr, it wasn't easy to navigate through sagebrush, creosote, rock formations and pockets of soft sand in the dark for two miles. Once my friend met me at the interstate, (bear in mind he wouldn't be able to drive his little Honda most of the way), I still had to get back to my Jeep. I'm glad my GPSr has a back light, otherwise, I would have had to wait till morning to find my Jeep and miss work. From finding the muggled cache, it tooks 5 hours (most in the dark) to get home. The worst part of the whole ordeal was that my wife grounded me from geocaching. But if you check my profile, I was back at it two days later.
  3. Of all the trackables I have ever retrieved, 11 of them I "grabbed", that is, retrieved them from a place other than where they were listed to be. Two of them are currently in my possession. I have read recently in the forums that, under those circumstances, after "grabbing", online I should place and retrieve again before moving it on to another cache in order to give the TB credit for the cache and mileage. Of the two that I have, I am in the process of doing that. I just placed them, but since I don't have them here at work with me, I will have to wait till I get home tonight to see their tracking #'s in order to retrieve them. However, with respect to the 9 other TB's that I have long since placed in other caches, I would love to give them credit for the caches I found them in and the mileage, but I don't know how to do that, particularly since I don't have the tracking #'s anymore. Suggestions? Forgot to mention, another personal benefit for me is when I click My Account, Travel Bugs, Retrieve it from a cache, everything I have ever picked up will show up.
  4. Browsing on Geocaching.com, I just noticed a virtual cache "Welcome to Las Vegas" where you log a find by sending of photo of you in front of a famous place. The cache listing includes 285 bugs in its inventory. How is that possible since their is no physical place to leave the bugs?
  5. Try this link http://www.ram-mount.com/gps_mounts/handle...n_gps_mount.htm, and click on your model. RAM mounts are extremely secure.
  6. Dragonmaster13 recommended a suction mount from Garmin or Ram. I have a Ram suction mount that works well in either a windshield or on the dash. The dash in my Jeep Liberty isn't large enough, but it works terrific in the window. With the twist lock suction is powerful enough that it won't bounce off while 4-wheeling nor will it pull off until you unlock it. See this link http://www.gpscity.com/item-ram/ramb166ga12.htm .
  7. I use this for my 60CSx and it works perfectly. No sliding around or bouncing. http://www.gpscity.com/item-ram/ramb166ga12.htm
  8. I've seen mycaches listed on the calendar page on the DATES found, but does it store the TIME somewhere as well?
  9. I have seen a number of threads referring to trolls. What are they? From the context of some of the threads, the best I can figure is that it is somebody who has an unpopular agenda or rant and disguises himself by creating a new fake account to launch the same old rant. Am I even close? Some of the threads include an experienced poster making the discovery of a troll. How can you tell?
  10. Caching through the snow in a one-horse open sleigh; O'er the fields we go laughing all the way.
  11. FYI, this is for anybody who has been scared away by Geobuddy's pricetag. Today I did a google on geocaching software to see if there was anything new. On the sponsor list, I noticed Geobuddy had a holiday special. It went from $99.95 to $49.95. Although this is still more than twice the amount to get rid of the nag screen on GSAK (I have noticed the screen keeps staying on longer and longer), I get more than twice the utility out of Geobuddy than I do with GSAK, especially the incorporation of topo maps, aerial photos, my own scanned maps, and the browser window. I find it easier to load entire PQ's or individual caches to my GPSr. Although I currently only have the trial version, I have found the customer service amazing. I previously posted a thread for a couple suggestions and within a couple hours, an updated version was published.
  12. That's really not a 60 v 76 issue. That's more of a CS v CSx issue. The x models (with the SIRF III chip)have much better reception under tree cover. I even get reception in the middle of my house. OP is not considering a CS model.
  13. The 76 also has a few extra Marine functions that the 60 doesn't. Better for boating, but isn't advantageous for hiking, camping, or caching.
  14. Google Earth is a fun and valuable tool whether you ever use it for geocaching or not. With the geocaching plug-in, you can just roll over to any part of the globe and see what caches are there without ever logging in to geocaching.com. However, if you find an interesting cache on the website, you can type the coordinates in Google Earth or Google Maps and it will take you there. You can zoom in to determine a plan of attack for the cache. I also like Geobuddy with the aerial photos and topo maps which are equally as useful. The aerial maps are old but are sometimes in greater detail than what you can zoom down to in Google Earth or Google Maps. On the Geocache website, go to My Account and update your home coordinates. That will take care of your 2nd issue.
  15. If you have Google Earth and add the geocaching plug-in, you can look at a map of anywhere and see if there are any caches.
  16. Thank you for your quick responses and super quick changes to the software. Just downloaded 2.05 and it works. I CAN NOW KISS GSAK GOODBYE! With respect to the other comment, I created a waypoint, called it home and set in the favorites. Thank you. I did notice, however, that the organize favorites command is still greyed out (meaning among other things that I can't delete any favorites or nest them) and that there is no command in the menu bar to create waypoints. It took me a minute to figure out to right click in the waypoint section of the screen to create one. That should be added in the menu bar as well. In the tool bar, can we have another shape tool, not for the purpose of creating a route or tracks as the one already there, but to create a shape that can cut and paste to the clipboard? AWESOME software, AWESOME support, a little pricey, but still AWESOME. Thank you.
  17. I havn't seen a place to input "home" coordinates, but I have noticed that by double-clicking anywhere on the map (any version, topo, aerial, quick, or scanned) the rest of the caches' distance is recalculated to that point. I like that feature, but it would also be nice to have default home coordinates listed in the preferences somewhere for everytime you initially open the software and perhaps a button to reset it back to home after you are done using the double-click feature.
  18. Just downloaded 2.04 and tried it with same results. I am getting the GC code instead of the cache name.
  19. I downloaded last week and got version 2.03. I have a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx and that is what is currently visible in Preferences. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  20. I have GSAK and like that I have the ability, when transferring pocket queries to my unit, to put the cache name where the useless waypoint GC code usually goes and the hint in the note field. I have recently downloaded the trial version of Geobuddy. I love the ability to view caches with topo maps and aerial photos. In many cases, the aerial photos, although somewhat outdated, are more detailed than Google Earth. Viewing the caches on topo maps gives a whole new perspective and allows me to come up with a better plan of attack. GSAK is so difficult and I really can't do anything without detailed instructions from somebody else where Geobuddy is much more intuitive. The only thing keeping me from buying the full version of Geobuddy and scrapping GSAK is that I can't figure out, with Geobuddy, how to get the Cache name into my unit where the GC code usually goes. I already tried Edit/Preferences/Geocaching ... and selected Geocache Name in the 1st Waypoint Data Field, but I am still getting the GC code when transferring pocket queries. This is why, thus far, I am still reluctantly sticking with GSAK. Can somebody help?
  21. The 60CSx and the 76CSx are basically the same unit except the 76 has a few extra marine functions including a case that floats. It is the 76 that is more expensive on most websites, about $449 where the 60 is only $399.
  22. It's a big issue with a lot of facets. Don't you have better things to do than police the board? Because it is a big issue with a lot of facets, the extra links Red provided are helpful.
  23. My Garmin (60CSx) reads out with the extra decimal point.
  24. Ahhh, But check this out as of today with respect to Firmware 2.9 .
