  1. Are you saying that there'll be no more "The Chumleys do the ton" threads? Say it ain't so. I'm going to miss them.
  2. This must be from that English Common Law thing that we're supposed to have inherited.
  3. You're not alone, there are a few in here who do that.
  4. Before we start our IPO, would you like 1000 "free" shares?
  5. "Toy" and "pack"? I read that as an electrical transformer and your purse. This leads to the obvious solution: bring your wife with. Anyone who can fit all that stuff into a little purse would have no problem with an ammo box. Be honest Carlee, the space left by the absense of that "toy" is now filled, right?
  6. Jake and Elwood, is this what you call being on a "mission from God"!!!?
  7. Mine symbolizes an American Indian tribe known for their seven clans; hence the seven points on the outer circle. They are part of my heritage. The above is true, but for those of you with some imagination, look at the avatar and squint. Now imagine that you're seeing the south end of a north bound cat. If you can see that and can't get it out of your mind.....sorry.
  8. Machiavelia was known as a politically crafty schemer - hence the meaning. I, myself, don't think of Jeremy's pose in that light (though I don't know that he has ever enlightened us as to his intent), but rather, the "I know something you don't know" attitude of the true geocacher. Jeremy has referred to himself as a "cunning linguist". There may be more to this than meets the eye.
  9. "So Jeremy, is this how we play leap frog?"
  10. How did you know it was bubble gum, rather than just plain ordinary gum? If you blew a bubble with it...that would make me sick thinking about it.
  11. I thought he was dorkish. Oh, I get it, you mean "that" Irish.
  12. I don't know of an official title, but there are a couple that might work in the U.K. I've seen chuff used in here, but have no idea what it means. Could a group of U.K. geocachers be called a "Chuff of Cachers"? I've also seen wanker in this forum. Would a "Weirdness of Wankers" be more accurate?
  13. And if the writer spells it viola, how are we to know if he's happy to find the cache, or his lost musical instrument?
  14. And you didn't cause any offense, Dr. Bogus. What we have here is the English language, and with that comes creative spelling. There is no authority. Many people are annoyed by spelling that ain't quite kosher, others couldn't care less. It's probably best to accept this and look at the positive aspects. You'll feel better in the long run.
  15. In the forums, this would be any "dead horse" or obvious troll thread.
  16. I'm no rodent expert, but I'm leaning toward the squirrel theory. The tail seems a bit long, but it looks like there may be fur on it. I don't think rats have fur on their tails. It's a good thing that it has fur, Jeremy has made unkind comments about "hairless rats". It might be a rat, or it might be a squirrel, and possibly a runt. This makes the name change obvious....Squirt. There also seems to be an Ugly Duckling story in the making here. Could it grow up to be Mighty Mouse or Rocky the flying squirrel?
  17. "Make up yer mind, Ethel, this dadgum thing is heavy! You want it in Ft. Wayne or Muncie?"
  18. i like the cheesehead cow. Oh yeah!...well, you don't live downwind of all that cheese and cow pastry. i live in the country. the smell of cow residue is not unknown to me. i still like the avatar. Would that smell be that of "dairy air"? Bec Wee, mon-sewer, and the French know it well, from Fond du Lac to Joliet.
  19. The Geocaching.com Web site forum would seem the better place for this, most of the computer geeks hang out there. I never get logged off Groundspeak, once a month I might get logged off the regular Geocaching site. I do check the "remember me" box. I use AOL and Mozilla. AOL will go thru a period where they kick me off, this doesn't happen too often. If your posts tend to get a little too long, consider 'copy and paste' to save them. I went thru that deleting temporary internet files thing, it is time consuming. A few months ago this computer was getting so that I dreaded going on line. The pop ups were horrendous and the glitches were worse than ever. That's when I went to Mozilla, and probably the best thing was installing Ad-Aware. It's free, and best of all, most of the problems went away and not one pop up since. Yes, I'm knocking on wood.
  20. i like the cheesehead cow. Oh yeah!...well, you don't live downwind of all that cheese and cow pastry. On topic: I'm not in this contest, even tho I was in the original and my avatar is an example of 'line art' that is fairly easy to carve. I have a hiking stick that I made, and this contest is probably better left to the newer people. In the original, someone made up a thread with all the entered avatars shown. The vote was by email to El Diablo, no voting in the forums and only one vote for the top three. If you tried to go Chicago and vote more than once, all your votes got thrown out. That's my recollection, I'm sure El Diablo will clarify this.

    The Cougar

It looks like the cougar took July off. Yesterday at about 1:30pm I heard that it was reported to a Kenosha Co. deputy that a cougar was sighted by a truck driver between Trevor and Wilmot. I assume this was along Hwy. C. He also saw tracks in the mud. I thought I heard that an attempt was made to contact the "wildlife" dept., with no success. I'd never heard of this dept. There's the possibility this dept. was created to deal with the recent Country Thunder activities..
  22. He looks like a tiny dog or a panther or something in that shot, doesn't he? It's because he's so skinny and leggy. I think that's partly what's making him hard to identify; baby varmints this young should be all chubby and round. (It's also why I'm still crossing my fingers for him). Have there been any unusual aero sightings in your area lately? See if he has a fondness for Reeses' Pieces. Keep an eye on him to see if he tries to use your phone to 'call home'.
  23. Duh!...word gets around. From your post, you do have a history. Notice how cuteness helps the young to survive? Another thing, and I don't remember where I heard it or if it's a correct quote: humans, as distructive as they are, are the only animals with the ability to help all the other animals.
  24. Have you looked into the South and Southeast forum?
  25. As it did to Sparky, this caught my attention. The first thing I thought was, " did it have an octagon barrell?". Finding somthing like this would be more like finding a vintage Martin guitar or a 1940 Ford coupe stashed away in an old farmer's barn. Yes, I would've kept it, and I wouldn't shoot it or sell it.
