  1. About 2 months ago I posted that I was working on a geocaching workshop for Girl Scout Totem Council's Pathways event. I just got word that registrations have closed and I have 25 leaders (full class) signed up for the event and lots and lots of folks asking questions about Geocaching! (I plugged geocaching at our last outdoor weekend) So I am looking for help and will provide snacks and prizes! There will be ~3 traditional letterboxes and ~5 geocaches of various types, so you can come early and find the caches and then train others to develop their 'cacher frame of mind' or hang out at the Geocaching display and pass out tattoos (geocaching of course) and answer questions about geocaching and how it works. (The booth is one of the letterbox/multi-cache stops.) I could use 5-7 GPS units either attached to cachers or just to borrow and at least 1-2 people at the booth. I have one Cadette Girl Scout who wants to base her Silver Award around Geocaching so I would love for her to get to know all of the fine WSGA cacher so she can get some ideas from y'all. Details: Meadowdale High School in Lynnwood (N47 50.720 W122 18.821) gets you close April 8, 2006 Cache set up is 8:00 - 8:30 AM Cachers can play from 8:30 - 9:30 AM Workshop is 9:45 - 11:30 AM (cachers now need to help) Booth in Resource Alley can be open from 11:15 - 1:00pm I can create a display board for WSGA but if you have one already that would be dandy! So, give me (Alice Few - justafew) a call on the cell at 253-653-1402 or email me at few_2001 at yahoo dot com and let me know if you can make it...I want to make sure I have enough snacks for everyone! Thanks in advance, you folks are great.

  3. I was actually thinking of doing the same thing in reverse. Talzhemir posted a cool Geocache Passport and I was thinking of having the kid's TB mailed back to them once the passport is filled. (SASE included of course) With their shorter attention spans it would be kind of like a countdown to homecoming. Cheers! JustAFew

  5. I love your idea and the passport is very well done! My kids sure like the idea, so we are going to try printing one out on the waterproof map paper we bought at REI for printing Orienteering maps and see how long it will last! What if you included a self addressed stamped envelope to have the full passport mailed back to you? Cheers! JustAFew
  6. I haven't been caching long but one thing I have noticed is the number of paths around and to caches. I'm getting ready to hide my first cache and I think that I am going to keep durable surfaces in mind when I do. I will admit that it is fun to get off trail and look around but it is obvious what damage is being done around more popular sites. I would recommend that if your site is urban and likely to attract a lot of cachers, put it someplase durable. If it is remote and the time between cachers allows for 'natural repair' you could be a little less durable. Thoughts? Cheers! Star Scout

  8. I would love it! I'm a Scout Leader (both girl and boy) and everyone want's a bug to release and needless to say with 32 total bugs it could get pricey! I don't mind paying the up keep for the website at all! However, the only drawback I can see it that everyone knows what the current bugs look like, they are easy to find and recognise. So maybe a downloadable "bug" icon/gif would be nice. Just my own humble opinion ! Cheers! Star Scout
