  1. I have an issue with navigation. When I want to find a cache I have to copy the coordinates to Google maps to get street instructions. THis is cumbersome. All I can get from many apps I have tried and Geocache.com is a compass. That's not much help when you are in a car. So I figured someone else has probably figured this out or I'm missing something. Help! Thanks!
  2. Is there a way I can map my finds? I'm working--off and on--on a Delores challenge. Should would be nice to be able to see where I have been and where I need to do without laboriously going through my list. Thanks! Nydia
  3. I just tell them what Geocaching is and email them the basic information. That's it. This last time I described a flat little magnetic key holder under a picnic table. The time before that, the guy called his insurance company and they said no. He actually told me that he wouldn't allow High School car washing for fundraisers for the same reason. It's all about someone suing them if they get hurt on the property. I'll tell you why I want to ask permission that's because I was looking for a cache one day. I looked up not, one but 2 cops. Fortunately I look pretty harmless. So I'll turn this around. How do you all ASK? How do you get that yes? First off, thank you for asking for permission. That's an important step in cache hiding that is ignored far too often. Second, the "cache at your own risk" wording only excludes Groundspeak from being sued if someone gets injured or dies while geocaching. It doesn't protect the landowner. Third, how are you presenting your cache to the landowner? And how is the cache going to be hidden? If it's something generic like "I want to hide a cache on your property, do I have permission to do so?", why would that landowner immediately jump to thoughts of liability? If you said something like "I want to hide a cache up in a tree on your property", then, of course, they're going to think about someone falling out of the tree and the liability for injuries that occur on their land. If you are trying to hide "dangerous" caches, I would expect many landowners to balk at giving permission.
  4. I just began Geocaching this year and I want to add back to the game. Part of my problem is getting permission. It's the lawsuit craziness. No one wants the liability. So my only yes has been from parks that are just saturated. What is "left" isn't much. Does anyone have help to answer the liability concerns? Geocaching.com caching at your own risk is not enough. Thanks Nydia
  5. DNR would be my suggestion Nydia in Columbia
  6. I found it here: https://sites.google.com/site/rowd0001/delorme-kml-files What I want to do is to have the maps in an electronic form for my Kindle! This is second best. I don't find it easy to use because there is o much background on Google Earth it is hard to see the streets for all the caches.
  7. Yeah, I'm a PM too so that part was easy. I'm doing this because we have a challenge going in SC to find the top 10 favorited sites. I think it's a neat idea, I just want to be able to map it. We have a windows computer but my own computer is a MAC. Love it in many ways but I don't like the issues with trying to work with Windows based programs.
  8. I am not sure I can do this but what I would like to do is to filter for the top 20 Favorited caches in my State and then produce a map with just those caches showing and possibly the fastest route to take to visit each one? Suggestions? Nydia (envchemist)
  9. I recently bought 2 gorgeous trackable Geocoins off of Ebay. I was wondering if there was someway to help them from becoming somone's collectable..or is that impossible? I have also ordered a regular travel bug and I figure I'll have better luck with that. I have seen the list of items to ensure longevity for those but not the Geocoins. Suggestions? Thanks! Nydia
  10. I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace and am using Cgeo. Works well but not as well as my Garmin. Does anyone use the Geocaching.com app that costs $9.99? Is it worth it?
  11. I appreciate all the comments because I am new as well. Because I don't bend well anymore, I just bought a telescoping mirror and magnetic retriever (2 tools). I think I have missed some obvious P&G just because I wasn't willing to get my face on the ground!! What I want help with is how to look for caches in bushes---do I use the magnetic retriever? Thanks!
