    Suggestion

Everyone has their own opinions as to what constitutes a particular D/T rating. Ultimately, it is up to the cache owner to decide. What if in addition to the cache owner's rating there was also an average user rating. Much like CNET's Editor's rating and Average User rating, any person who finds a cache may anonymously contribute what they thought the Difficulty and Terrain of that cache should be which would then be calculated into an average on the main cache page. Thanks for hearing me out.
  2. I'm looking for the Gold Talk Like a Pirate geocoin that was sold on geocaching.com. If you have one unactivated, I will pay $25.00 (Paypal) to have it shipped to me at zipcode 65201. I'm also looking for Arthur and Trillian geocoin in copper or gold. Message me if you can help. Thanks!
  3. I hope your review gets posted. Geocoins of any particular style tend to have a short run, and once they're gone, they're gone. Maybe you got a bad batch. Maybe coins designed with moving parts are intended for show only, not to be used (No yo-yo-ing, for example), nor even examined closely. Put it on a stand and don't touch it. But purchasers don't always know that. I don't have the yo-yo, but I have a couple of fancy coins with moving parts, and they're in no way high precision devices, and certainly not showpieces. I ordered mine online as you did, so I can't compare mine with the rest of the coins of a given style. Mine have design, molding, and assembly flaws, and unfinished parts (rough cut pieces and sharp edges). People see my coin and they're like "Wow that's cool!!" (they see a unique design), and then "oh, that's too bad" (they notice the manufacturing defects). I'd guess some individual coins in that run are better than others. More reviews would probably be a good thing . People would know in advance what they are getting. My first review didn't make it either. I think someone on that end dropped the ball and accidentally deleted the reviews. The only only 2 reasons a review should not be published are if the person reviewing the item didn't purchase it/hasn't seen it or if a person uses inappropriate or generally unhelpful language like, "It was stupid," or "Won't fit in coin slot of the Coke machine."
  4. I'm kind of new to geocoin collecting, and I'm really only looking to buy right now. This is a long shot, but does anyone have an Arthur & Trillian round geocoin they would be willing to sell? It appears the last post about one was about 7 years ago. I go caching with Arthur, and consider him a friend. It would be awesome to have one of his geocoins.
  5. Thanks for the info. I finally took the plunge. I bought a coupon on ebay to get $20. off a purchase of $120. or more, than bought a $150. gift card for $132.50 at auction. Earned ebay bucks, and got the 3% rebate coming from the aforementioned site, and put the rest on a credit card that gives me an amazing 1% cashback.
  6. Cabella's is having a sale on several Garmin GPS, the best deal is the Oregon 450 for $250.00 Shipping is around $20.00. If you can find a better deal, let me know, I'm looking. I also use http://www.mrrebates.com?refid=499951 to go to their site, and get 3% cashback, and $5.00 for signing up for a free account. The 3% and $5.00 take a decent chunk off the shipping.
  7. I had my car broken into and my Explorist 210 and my Venture HC stolen on Easter morning. My parents were generous enough to buy me a Legend HCX for my Birthday, but I still miss the Explorist 210 for it's ability to store short notes about the caches. I guess it would be cheaper to simply write my notes on paper or use my PDA, but maybe I'm just a little sentimental. Anyway, I'm looking for a used working explorist for $60.00 shipped. I know that's not a lot, but if you have one you're willing to part with please send me a message. Thanks, Jared
  8. Glitch Wizard beat me to the punch. If you hide the caches yourself, you can usually find them....I hope. At any rate, if you feel as though this would be cheating them, then you may want to consider finding the caches without them first. You may even cheat by sending messages to geocachers claiming to have found the caches, and asking them to tell you exactly where they are with landmarks (not street signs)
  9. I'd been searching the web for a handheld gps for my birthday, and decided on the Legend HCx. Convinced that ebay had the best prices, I began the bidding process. Eventually, I realized that knuckleheads who don't know how to shop were bidding used units up over the "Buy It Now" prices of new ones! I used a few price search engines, and found a site called Navguys.com. Their price of $183.00 with free shipping was the lowest I could find anywhere. They took 3 or 4 days to ship it, but I still received it within the 7-10 business days that they advertised. Hope some of you find this helpful.
  10. I have an eXplorist 210, and I'm very happy with it, but the eXplorist 500 caught my eye with its color screen and sd expansion. Just recently, I saw how geocaching.com's mapping allows you to send caches straight to a Garmin GPSr. What makes Garmin's so special and so expensive? I have the opportunity to buy the eXplorist 500 for $110., but can anyone offer a Garmin alternative for the same price? It has to be durable, color screen, get good reception, and come with basic mapping software. Thanks in advance.
  11. Best way to find one of these suckers is with a metal detector. If your in an urban area, this could get tricky.
  12. Oddly enough, I found my best bargain on Amazon.com rather than ebay. I purchased an explorist 210 for $149.99, but it comes with a $30.00 rebate, and I had $30.00 taken off my order by accepting the Amazon credit card. Then, I accepted a free 3 month trial of their magazine, for free 2 day shipping. So altogether I'll be paying $90.00 for something that is the same or a little better than the 300.
  13. Hey all, I'm brand new to all of this. I should be receiving my first gps receiver in the mail tomorrow. Despite Garmin's popularity, I'll be striking out on my own with a Magellan 210. I'm having a little bit of buyer's remorse for not going with the 400, but if I enjoy geocaching, and finances allow, I may do that later. I live in Columbia Missouri, which has a wide variety of terrain, from hills to rocky cliffs. There about 3 caches within a mile of my house, but I won't attempt to find them without the gps device.
