  1. The cache is GCYF01. At least he gave a hint! If you can tell me what it is, I would appreciate it.
  2. That's exactly what I thought! There are some very clever cachers here who have solved ones much more difficult than this one. The fact that I was able to solve one using this cipher made me think it would be fairly easy. I am not very good at these.......
  3. No, but appreciate you asking. Most caches like this in my area do not give any hints as to what cipher to use. There are a couple that are totally baffling to me. A couple have said "maybe later". But, I'm thinking I might have to. Just not sure what to say so I don't totally give it away. If you have a suggestion, that would be appreciated.
  4. Haven't given up. Wanted to get it published, so went with another one I wanted to try. Still am going to work with symbols--I mostly use a MacBook, but haven't tried on a Lenovo laptop yet. As for ciphers, I'm still trying to find a way to encode using Turtle. There's a local cache that used that, and I found a decoder. Can't find one to go the other way.
  5. Update--well, apparently I found a cipher that was more difficult than I imagined it would be. 10 days and no find yet. Funny thing is, the first time I saw a cache with this cipher, I Googled it and found the correct cipher right off.
  6. I've tried both Geocaching Toolbox.com and CacheSleuth.com. Entering the coords gives the string of symbols. But, when I copy and paste them, it either gives the URL, or just one of the symbols. I've tried saving them as a photo, in another tab, as a picture. So, those show the string, but I cannot figure out how to separate each symbol by it self. For example, when I highlight the entire string of figures, only the first one shows, like this When I paste it into the description for the cache setting up the hide, it shows the URL. Not sure if that helps.
  7. I'm setting up a mystery cache, and instead of using a cipher that uses letters or numbers, I want to use one that uses symbols for the code. But, every time I try to opt/paste the symbol, all I end up with is the URL. How do I go about just getting a copy of each symbol? Thanks.
  8. Yep, I get a message that the map can't be loaded. Just hit the "reload" and the map shows up.
  9. I did the eraser fix on my Oregon 450. Works like a charm. Can buy a lot of pencil erasers for $38 (including shipping)!
  10. I've replaced logs and containers a few times. When I do, I take the old with me and notify the CO and ask if they would like me to send them. Never a response. What really needs to be done is for more cachers to post NM logs. I recently found one where all that was left was the lid and the top half of the container. Posted NM, but likely won't be fixed as the CO has not been active for almost two years. I track it, and someone else with over 12k finds found it after I did, and said nothing about it's condition.
  11. Me, too! I've made a note for myself for when it happens again.
  12. Yes! That did it!!!! Thanks so much, really appreciate it.
  13. I like having the map screen set up so that the map and the compass (with direction to the cache) are displayed. However, every so often, it changes to just the map and a line to the cache are shown. I can usually get the map/compass function back, but today, I've gone through every screen and cannot figure out how to get it back. Can anyone guide me to that? Thanks.
  14. I don't even remember what the old profile page looked like, and have no intention of taking a look back. I also never even realized I could set a cover photo, as I skipped right over that section. Change is good!
  15. I'm gradually getting used to my 700. Has taken a while, and it still shuts off sometimes for no apparent reason. Anyone looking for a bargain, Costco is selling them for $240. Not too long ago, they were selling them for $185.
  16. What's up with this? Why do I get this message on my profile page? None need attention, so why is it there? There are no DNFs on my hides, and only have one virtual that needs to be done.
  17. A birthday cache is a cache you find on the same date of day/month it was hidden. The year does not matter. Today is Sept 20th, so if you find a cache hidden on 9/20 of any year, it's a birthday cache. The only "but" to that is, if a new cache was hidden today, ie, 9/20/20, and you found it, you do not get credit for it. Have no idea why. I've asked and there is no explanation. There's a birthday cache grid you can add to your stats in mygeocachingprofile.com.
  18. In the forum for suggestions, I once posted that it would be nice to have PQ functions that would show caches by county and Delorme map sectors. That was not well received by many.
  19. Isn’t that info embedded somewhere? When you run the “my finds” PQ, that shows what counties you have finds in.
  20. Is there a macro/checker that you can use to see if you've found caches in two different states or countries, but in cities with the same name, ie, like Athens, OH & Athens, GA or Athens, Greece? I looked through GSAK macros, but didn't see one that would do that.
  21. Yep, I should have been clearer about the notes, as I am posting NM, as well. I took a look at this CO's hides--the vast majority of archived caches was done by the reviewer, as the CO did not respond.
  22. This is really getting on my nerves--cachers who have years of experience, but do not maintain their caches. Two examples--1) we have a local group that has put out many power trails over the years. I've done quite a few, and what started out as mostly preforms, are now Altoid tins, Aleve bottles, orange prescription bottles, or DNFs. They never maintain them. 2) A member of that group has over 20,000 finds. I'm working on the "birthday grid", and have come across many of his that have a string of DNFs over more than one year. I have yet to see him do maintenance, or even comment on, any of them. I've started writing notes saying they need maintenance, and if nothing is done is a few weeks, post that they should be archived.
  23. The only reason I can think of is that they (the orange script type) are usually easier to open than a rusted Altoid tin! As for the other type of pill bottles, if the drug manufacturer sized the container to fit the contents, a vast majority would be nanos.........
