  1. See the format below nothing real special just need the quotes and spaces in the correct locations. 1. Create a new shortcut on the desktop or wherever for watcher. 2. Right Click Go to the properties 3. In the Target field go to the end and place the fully defined path to the file you want to open. Here is what the target looks like on mine. You will need to substitue in the correct path and file. There is a space between the last quotes and the file to open. "C:Documents and SettingsSPangeMy DocumentsGPSWatcherWatcher.exe" C:Documents and SettingsSangeMy DocumentsGPSspinnerspinner_large.gpx
  2. Here is the cheapest place I have found on cables. Good prices on antennas and other items also. GPS Stuff
  3. Not sure if you want to associate all GPX files or just one in paticular. Like the Spinner_large.gpx I was able to create an Icon on my desktop that opens watcher and Spinner_large.gpx without the "open file" dialog. I have not been able to get the file association to work either.
  4. I have had mine for about a year and love it. Got the Ram mount for the car with a 12volt adapter. Now I recharge batteries less frequently. I have used an external antenna on long hikes so I can store the unit in my pack with the antenna on my shoulder strap and still keep the track log running.
  5. Another way to view on your laptop. Is to use Watcher and open Spinner_larger.gpx Has some neat tools for browsing and keeping up with all the caches from the PQ.
  6. I think my post may have been mis-interpreted. I was not claiming to have 1' accuracy only that with the averaging function the greater number of data points brought the number lower for the waypoint being averaged. Viewing the track log indicates a simlar pattern to Kerry's plots. The individual points drifted approx. 3 meters. If the data from Kerry's plots were averaged, I am curious as to how close to the true position would that number be? When cache hunting I accept the posted coordinates and my GPSr to be only within 40-50 feet. Yes, Sometimes they are close to the same but more often they are not. Lets have fun! Spange & Crew
  7. Related to this accuracy thing. I did a little test with my 76S. I created a new waypoint and used the average location. Except I let it average for about 12 hours. Neat thing about this was that the reported accuracy was around 1 foot when I finally saved the point It seems to decrease the more with the number of points taken for the average. Did this 3 times and downloaded the waypoints into ExpertGPS. This is where I discovered something new. In part of the setup you can enable sub-meter accuracy. This does not change the displayed LatLon numbers but the UTM gets carried out further. All 3 points were with 1.5'. Just some interesting observations. Spange & Crew
  8. 1. Yes, the route can be printed from Mapsource. Right click on the route. Select route properties. Go to Directions tab. Press Print Button. On my Map 76S there is a route window that has these directions. 2. Street number addresses are not accurate other than placing you on the correct street. 3. When maps need changed on the GPS a new complet map set is loaded. 4. Yes, Basemap remains when MG maps are removed or turned off. 5. The maps are not perfect but much better than the basemaps. I really like using the MG. I use the auto routing feature for any long trip. Enjoy! Spange & Crew
  9. I just noticed this yesterday. Anyone try one of these out yet? SporTrak Topo I am a Garmin user but this looked interesting. Spange & Crew
  10. Ditto everyone else's responses. I used Mobipocket for about a year. Then began working with Spinner, Watcher and Plucker. I have also been testing out iSolo. Plucker is free iSolo is about $20. iSolo so far has been much faster on the conversion and accessing in my Palm. Graphics are also better but this may be due to a setting in Plucker not correct. Either way it this method wins hands down on any other method. Using Watcher on the PC is also a great way to catch up and manage the caches in my area. Enjoy! Spange & Crew
  11. Yes, Use the [Quit] button to exit the pan and scan. This will take you back to present position centered in the screen. This is what I use on my Map 76S.
  12. I have just begun using GPXSpinner along with watcher. This is a great combination. Renames the waypoints by the type along with the symbols. Beats the heck out of doing it manually. GPX Spinner Hope this helps! Spange & Crew
  13. I finally had a chance to test my Mighty Mouse2 antenna with the GPS76S this weekend caching in heavy tree cover. The external antenna is a substantial improvement. The locks were more solid and seldom lost. Spange & Crew
  14. I recently found this micro. Here One of the smallest log books I have seen. The hiding spot was equally unique. Spange & Crew
  15. I had read this thread the other day and now I am wondering if I am making some of my log entries correct. I have went some caches recently and logged them as DNF. Then later made a return trip after learning new information from the logs and found the cache. I then edit the log and change it to found leaving the note that it was my second attempt. Normally I may just make a couple of trips if I am sure the cache is not MIA before I would log it as DNF. Thanks, Spange & Crew
  16. I have been using the 76S for about a year. No problems and great reception. I liked the higher larger screen than the Legend and SportTrak Pro. I have just started using an external Mighty Mouse2 antenna. This looks like it will work great in heavy tree cover. I tested the Legend, Sportrak and 76s before making my decision they all were close on performance. It became more of a personal preference on the functionality and looks of the units. Have fun with which ever one you decide on! Spange & Crew
  17. Did you manaully enter the points or download via EasyGPS or other software. Using EasyGPS and downloading straight from the website then into the GPS is pretty foolproof. Just make sure both are set to the correct WGS84 Datum. Have fun! Spange & Crew
  18. We did several Virtual caches while there last year. Start here and click on nearby caches. Magic Kindom
  19. I have enjoyed the Garmin GPSMAP 76S. I have not had any trouble yet. Not sure if anyone has seen the Ver.2.03 beta version. They just increased waypoint storage from 500 to 1000. What a nice "free" feature. http://www.garmin.com/products/gpsmap76s/agree_beta.html Spange & Crew
  20. Not sure if anyone noticed. 2.0 is here with topo map support. Works great! Sent my donation promptly. Keep up the great work Doug.
