  1. Well, I have to put my 2 cents in here.. I own 2 Garmin GPS's and I have have found using them to be quite easy. But when 1 of the parameters of your purchase is the "Lifetime Maps Update" you have to ask ? Who's Lifetime? Now my Nuvi 265w was sold to me with this benefit. I didn't expect a ""LIFETIME"" mine or yours... But, I did expect it to last the lifetime of the unit. I understand units like this a lifetime is 2.5 to 3.5 years. After you buy it, get it home, register it, and set it up. The disclaimer on the Garmin Lifetime Maps update is ....... Ready...... 90 days after the unit is registered or after it connects to the 1st satellite. Now why would I EVER, invest into another Garmin? Only reason I have 2 is because one was a gift. Garmin sells high end handheld and automotive GPS units... To Garmin the update doesn't cost them a thing. >Except repeat customers< So I hope that all who are looking to Buy a new GPS of any type. I would stay away from Garmin products. Well unless you life expectancy is less that 90 days or can afford to piss money away. Don't get me wrong I get that a map update may not be all that important. To some it is due to changing highways, and roads in many major cities. I live in Las Vegas NV the past 8 years and the roads have changed a few times. With added Exits and Junctions as well as closed exits and roads. IMO Garmin has false advertisments in regards to the "Lifetime Maps".
  2. I like to ask if any of you tried the Garmin Mobile 20? It's a GPS/WAAS receiver for a smartphone. It is attached to the phone and they say it turns the phone into a Garmin type GPS like a Nuvi I guess. Below is the link, If anyone is using this please let us know if this is a valid upgrade or junk. If so how long will it last on battery? Is it portable enough to Cache with? Thanks for looking https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-the-go/discontinued/garmin-mobile-20/prod421.html
  3. I thought you could copy and paste the files off a SD card. For example my Palm Pilot "had" an Atari retro Asteroids game, I put it into my PC jack. Then opened that card then I deleted all the files. Then I had another blank SD card with a free 64 Mb of unused space. Just like a new one. Just be sure to unlock it before attempting. Now, This may be an unusual circumstance. I've only done this once and of coursed i'm no pro. So, If it was me I would try to copy the file or files off the card, Not move or delete. Make a folder for it and save it to desktop or your place of choice. Then from there you can e-mail or burn to a CD, DVD, flash drive, or another SD card. I think it should work, But if it doesn't check the lock if you don't see one it may be under the label. Good Luck and let us know If that worked...
  4. I was wondering if you tried using the "Garmin BaseCamp" program first before learning about deleting, adding, and customizing for paperless Caching? I'm still green with my new Nuvi 265W and this "BaseCamp" program. My wife and I just learned about and started Geocaching about a month ago. While setting up our 1st adventure we understood the need for this feature right away. Since then I've been looking for another unit that will allow this. My 265W is easy to download LOC and GPX files before learning of Basecamp I would download the file to my desktop. Then copy and paste that file to Garmin SD card. My SD card is an old 516mb and it holds so far like 80+ basic waypoints. I haven't tested how many it will hold but I'm thinking i'll spend 10 bucks for a 10mb or larger SD card and download my entire city's Waypoints. So if were out n about and happen by 1 then Bonus. So if anyone has any tricks to use our 265W as a somewhat of a paperless cacher.... Please let me know : )
