  1. Well you know what they say about rumors. Don't believe everything you read/hear
  2. Sorry, No. Presently it is not an option.
  3. My questions is why do they HAVE to be moved? Why can they not exist still on GC.com for us "geocachers" who do not want to waymark? You lose nothing by leaving them here at GC.com. If a cache owner wants to archive his gc.com cache thats fine....but why force him to? Just to try to make people visit the new website once it is out of beta? If a cache owner wants to leave his cache here, but also post it as a waymark category or waypoint then thats fine too. You still lose nothing and geocachers don't lose alot of really neat virts and locationlesses. My questions remains, why do they HAVE to be moved there? Jeff You have your answer in the thread you started with the same question.
  4. CC = Cute Citten. its a typo. should have been CK.
  5. You are all still thinking like cachers . Waymarking is not like caching. Don't limit your thought process by comparing it to Geocaching. Its a mind set that will take a little time to acquire but it is worth it.
  6. I tend to agree with this. You would need to close all topics that mention what GPS to buy, what PDA is best, where to buy data cables and so on. There is a free version of the magazine, so you don't even have to buy it to see most of the content. You have to buy a GPS to geocache. We don't close those topics. If Magellan came into the forums with a topic that was an advertisement for their GPS, then it would be shut down. The same thing would go for the magazine. Following the topic from top to bottom, the first part was correctly directed back to the magazine. A question was then asked whether the magazine was any good and people have offered their opinions. That is similar to people asking if a certain GPS is any good. Groundspeak reads the forums and can close the topic if they feel it is inappropriate. The difference is that Magellan has competition and an informed decision can be made by asking about different manufactures. There isn't another mag at this point so nothing is gained by discussing the fact that you can spend money to get a different version. As I said non-intentional solicitation. from the forum guidelines From what I read you need permission from Groundspeak PRIOR to including limited commercial content. Commercial content as a direct or indirect (either intentional or non-intentional) attempt to solicit customers through a forum post will be edited or deleted. You have to admit the forum guidelines do spell it out pretty clearly. If nothing else the OP should close the thread. At the most until permission from Groundspeak is granted the information regarding subscriptions should be removed. Groundspeak is on record as allowing GPS manufacturer type questions. I have yet to find where they have approved this type of discussion since it is a non-intentional commercial discussion.
  7. Wouldn't this thread be considered a Commercial thread since the mag is a separate company? Even with sponsorship from Groundspeak this sounds like a non-intentional solicitation
  8. When you do set it to 1kR and you can decode this og upi vsm trsf yjod upi hpt oy. until then you just have to wait.
  9. Robert, Next time you need to bribe an Admin to fix it remember I work cheap and fast.
  10. Its sad when a persons mind goes. Its a real waste.
  11. Was this done to accomidate the "offline database" school of PQ thinking or to disrupt it. It seams that just about every cache in the area has been updated within the week, making the flag almost useless. Sounds like a topic for another thread. It really has nothng to do with this thread. Personal opinion.
  12. Don't be so sure about that. I see no reason to believe that to be true.
  13. I read this to mean that if my virtual becomes a waymark, the category owner will have the authority to deny its submission if he doesn't like it. My virt has already passed cache submission guidelines so it shouldn't have to again. My virtual already has a set of verification questions that have worked very well since its listing 2 years ago. What if these are insufficient? I will be forced to alter it to fit the desires of the category owner. This is yet another intrusion on the integrity of my virtual as it currently stands. Again, its is MY virtual, I don't want to be forced to follow someone else's instructions. Just a thought, but wait until you get forced before you panic. You are getting worked up about something that might not happen. There is enough angst in the world without making more for your self that might not even be a problem. This: Is what I know to be true. No point in my thinking up all the possible problems that might arise. Unless you want to consider including caching becoming illegal in the near future too. That is just as possible. Relax and wait and see. I have a virtual cache too and I am not worried.
  14. So Bret, you only own one shirt? and change the patch instead?
  15. Yes, there is that function in PQ's. The problem of stale data will affect everyone, premium member or not. It's always a good idea to check the cache page before going out on the hunt. Also, if you look at the very bottom of the cache page there is a date/time stamp of the last update to the page. FYI the Time/Date stamp should not be used to tell if the page has been updated. It will only tell you that the page has not been updated.
  16. thats a pretty definite statement. Where did you get the information that this is what is going to happen. To the best of my Knowledge we do not know what is going to happen to existing virts. Did I miss a memo?
  17. Send an email to COntact@geocaching.com They have the power to do what you ask
  18. Something to consider at an event when approaching a reviewer/cacher. (this works in CO because we use name tags. If you don't you should start.) Look at the persons name tag and treat them accordingly. If my name tag says Co Admin then I am there as a volunteer reviewer and feel free to ask me questions regarding cache submissions and other Geocaching.com business, but be nice about it. If my name says LaPaglia then I am there as a cacher to have fun and not work. Treat me that way. Its a small thing but it makes the reviewers lives easier. Now having said the above my name tag always says Co Admin/LaPaglia because I have no problems with Colorado cachers being abusive or rude. Thanks Colorado. Michael
  19. You just earned 50 "points" for this question. You are now at the top of the "point" list.
  20. The dates have been set: May 25, 26, 27 and 28, 2006. Location: Cedar Hill State Park, 15 miles southwest of Dallas. Cedar Hill is one of the busiest parks in Texas, especially during a holiday weekend. In fact, we were just barely able to reserve the pavilions for our event! It is STRONGLY suggested that you make your reservations NOW! more information here
  21. Anything done is haste invites disaster.
  22. The thread was locked too soon. I was at a geocaching event all day yesterday and did not get a chance to reply to my own thread. Instead of caching I guess I should have stayed home and followed the thread. Maybe if I had 35 finds and 1025 posts then my post would have stayed unlocked longer. This was a perfect analogy for what happened at the event. Put yourself in this situation and honestly ask yourself how you would feel. If Rothstafari dosen't want to accept my account of the "event" all he has to do is contact FullOn to find out what happened. It may be Groundspeak's playground, but they still have to accept some accountability for the Magellen Explorist commercial disguised as an "Event Cache" OK I'm calling BS on this. Rothstafari didn't close your thread. he doesn't even know its been closed. It was closed by a forum Moderator not Rothstafari. You want to substitute mtn-man for Rothstafari in your rant then its ok. Do cast dispersions on a person that has nothing to do with the closing of your thread and is the one that has said they are going to check on it AFTER the weekend.
  23. The lawn is mowed...must...stay...away...from the forums..... On some level, of course you're right. But this isn't a playground, it's a business (from Groundspeak's perspective), and being condescending or rude to your paying customers is a heck of a way to run a business. Maybe that's the piece I've been missing - the owners still see Groundspeak too much as their playground, too little as their business. Disney World is serious business to the owners and employees, and that's what makes it such a successful playground for the rest of the world. Two very different perspectives. Yep one is a Frog and the other a Mouse. One is a privately held corporation and one is a publicly held corporation. One you get to talk the the owners in a public forum (even if you dont like how they say it you still can talk to them) and one you might not even know the name of the CEO, CFO and CLO. Very different
