  1. Dont worry! Were back in 48 hrs and will soon clear anything unfound up! Been in Canada without a car so haven't FTF'd anything! Got close a couple of times, we got caught by a train and stuck on the wrong side of the tracks so missed one by ten minutes! Got some good ideas for new caches as well so there may be ore unfound before long Tom
  2. We are also from Kent (Currently in Canada but back in 3 weeks time!) and plan to get out and about a bit more in the area when we can. Once we're back it'd be great to meet up with other local cachers, hopefully we'll meet you at an event too. Just for those that know us already, we were LucyLocket10 and Siliconwombat but merged to form a new 'team' of TheMightyFinn, after our loyal caching hound spaniel Finn Happy caching! Lucy, Tom & Finn TheMightyFinn
  3. Hello all! Just to let you all know that LucyLocket10 and Siliconwombat are no longer and we will now be known as...TheMightyFinn! We look forward to seeing many of you when we return from Canada in a couple of weeks time, hopefully at an event somewhere in the country. Here's to many more caches under our new identity, happy caching! Lucy, Tom & Finn TheMightyFinn
  4. Pain in the *** for those of us currently caching in Canada though! We had noticed a serious drop in accuracy but thought it was just us! Does funny things at the moment like changing its mind on distance and direction while stationary. We're used to the normal variations but this has been up to 40m each way! Still accurate enough most of the time but frustrating the rest!
  5. Ooooh, count myself and siliconwombat in! My brother (another cacher, CoolHorse) lived here for a while and we love caching here - lots of Rodz caching opportunities!
  6. Follow the road forward, past the parade and on until you come to Sampsonia Way / Arch St, That's one big bird He's well and truely plucked! How random?!
  7. I hope Sam DOES have hers again, and I hope people come to it this year..... It was great last year, fabulous site and some lovely caches! It might be far away, but it was well worth it - it only took me 5 hours each way!!!! Now you know how us Southerners feel about travelling to most of the other events! It would be great for more cachers to come down to Sam's event, it was fab last year!
  8. The wombat and I got ours today in the Canterbury Blacks - double edged sword though, what with living in Kent....we get free coins, but noone wants to let them loose!...
  9. Sort of had this problem when out caching in Box Hill - there was a pen, but it didn't work! After wondering what to do, House of Boo gave us a great tip... Sign the log with the pen, leaving an impression of your name, then lick/wet a finger and dab in dry mud or earth, then rub your finger over the imprint. Works really well! Also means the log book doesn't get too wet or covered in mud. If no pen, this method works well with a twig, stylus or other make shift writing implements!
  10. Yay! Looking forward to some more random caching on the way there, the last journey wasn't so successful...seasickness pills sure knock you out, and when you do eventually wake up, all you get are DNFs! Hoping for more luck this time!
  11. Right then! I have been talking to LMN and as she had the campsite and I had some dates, we are going to work together to hold a joint South East event! The dates are 13th - 15th June - look out for a new cache page soon and let us know if you can come. This will be Kent's first camping event (as far as I know), so please bear with us...hopefully we can all work together to make it a success!! Lucy
  12. Hello all, Just had a message from Pup on good old facebook so I thought I'd check this out... I'm afraid our South East event hasn't come to anything - due to lack of time and not being able to find a suitable campsite for the dates chosen, I think this isn't going to happen this year. We (siliconwombat and myself) would be happy to attend and help (if needed!) with LMN's event, even if just setting more caches which Kent desperately needs! Any dates are good too. Sorry to all who said they would be interested in coming to our event, hopefully they will be tempted to visit this corner of the UK for LMN's event?! Lucy
  13. I am involved with the 1st Mersham Guides (just outside of Ashford, Kent) and am in the process of applying to become a leader. As an avid cacher, I've always thought caching would be a good thing for the guides to get involved in when undertaking their outdoor challenge activities, as they could incorporate things such as a litter-pick (CITO!) when doing so. I would be interested in getting involed with anything to do with 'geo-guiding'! Thanks - LucyLocket10
  14. Only just found out from a price list sent by the campsite, that they don't take dogs - bit naughty of them really, as I can't see anywhere obviously that says no dogs on their website. Soooo.......I will continue to look for a geohound friendly campsite which is able to take a large group booking for the weekend of 13th-15th June 2008! Something for me to do at work on a Friday me thinks!! I'll keep you all posted
  15. Shall I go for 13th-15th June then? The site said middle / end June so I think these dates would be ok with them?
  16. Ok, so I've emailed the above campsite and they are prepared to take a large group booking for around the middle to end of June 2008 as July is too busy for them. I was thinking either the weekend of 13th-15th or 20th-22nd, as they aren't too close to the summer holidays when the site will be busy. I can't see any events for past October this year, so hopefully this will be a good time to do something? If people could let me know which weekend they would prefer, then I can book it with the campsite and get a cache page up and running. Yey!
  17. Total praise for the reviewers from here. I only learned about the possible outbreak in Kent when one of my caches was disabled. Knowing a lot of the farmers on whose land my caches reside I decided to disable nearly all of my caches for my own peace of mind. I couldn't have lived with myself if I thought for a second my cache may have been responsible for the transmission of this dreadful disease. We all have a part to play in reducing the chances of transmission of FMD, It shouldn't be down to the reviewers though their help is always welcome. Perhaps I was a little over zealous in disabling the caches but better safe than sorry.... Siliconwombat (hijacked lockets laptop whilst she was on the phone!)
  18. Well then! Plans have changed slightly with regard to the campsite... I emailed them to see if they would take a large group booking and apparantly they can't take more than 15 or something ridiculous in a group. So....I've had another look for Kent campsites and found http://www.twochimneys.co.uk - who have, among other things, 200 tent pitches, a takeaway and an indoor pool!!! I've emailed them about a large group for next July, so hopefully they'll be able to take us. Fingers crossed everyone! I'll update as soon as I know.
  19. Great idea about the lounge, if next summer's anything like this year then we'll probably need it! Thanks for the advice and help, I might just be sending a few emails your way!....
  20. Excellent! Glad to see people would be interested. I'll talk to the campsite and see how they are booked for next July...if anyone is interested, here's the website for the campsite http://www.broadhembury.co.uk/. Good eh?! I agree that there is a definite lack of caches in Kent, especially around Ashford, so this might be a good opportunity for some newbies! I'll keep you all posted. Lucy
  21. Hello all, I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in attending a camping event in Kent? I'm not sure what time of year, but perhaps next spring sometime when (hopefully) we will have nicer weather (summer this year was around April, so maybe we'll get a repeat next year?!) There is a nice campsite just outside of Ashford in Kent, who I have emailed explaining a bit about caching and asked about group bookings. They are more than happy to take a group on (they don't know what they're letting themselves in for...) as long as they know time of year, numbers etc. So......would anyone be interested in coming?! Any suggestions for dates etc would be great! Thanks, LucyLocket10
