  1. Depending on how much of a walk and challenge you like, there are two very good series less than 10 minutes from M1 J23 (Loughborough). The first is the Vegpunk series GC2VWWN, a good walk (about 8 miles although it can be shortened, with some very challenging caches. The second is Lord and Lady Boogies Belton series (GC36EGX)a walk of about 4 miles again with some challenging hides. The number of favourite points on these two series give some idea of how good they are.
  2. We spent a couple of weeks there last year and really enjoyed all the walks and caches along the coast path. We also did several multi's and puzzles that were well worth a visit. GCX4R4 Trebetherick: homage to a poet. GC14BCZ A Doom bar mystery GC1DF05 The Rumps Ramble We did all these on one day combining the walk. GC2N0NH The Wherigo at Boscastle was also worth doing, as was another multi - GC1FD96 Crantock from Garden to Cowshed. I hope you have a lovely time, I'm feeling most jealous just remembering the weeks we had there. Karon
  3. Our last few pairs of walking boots have come from the Altberg factory in Richmond, Yorkshire. They are particularly good as they do several width fittings and will mix and match. John has one foot wider than the other and I have to have their extra wide fitting. They are leather without goretex or other waterproof linings (which keeps them lightweight) but if treated well remain waterproof. Our last pairs were about £80-90, and they do any adjustments needed at the time. It does mean a trip to Richmond, but that is never a hardship if we can combine it with a weekend away. I also had Karrimor boots which leaked after about a years wear. Karon
  4. When I first spotted this the other day, I corrected some co-ordinates and the new co-ordinates appeared on the large Beta map, but not the small cache page inset map. Now when I correct some co-ordinates the location is changed on the small inset map but not on the large Beta map, although the co-ordinates I had previously corrected are still in the right place on the large map. Having the corrected co-ordinates show on the Beta map perhaps in a different colour to show they are corrected would be really useful.
  5. It's nice to hear of TB's that are still travelling. Most of ours have gone missing, mainly in the hands of new cachers, However "John's Garmin Stonehenge GC" returned to us on Saturday at the Halloween event, having traveled 63590km,(39743 miles) visited 4 countries, 3 continents and been through the hands of 44 cachers. It was nice to bump into Poshrule who was the last cacher to pick it up. The GC will now live happily in retirement just going to events to be discovered.
  6. Mr lgxkls (Mat Smith) also updates OSM whenever we have got back from a walk / caching trip. I do the cache logging, he does the OSM. It is quite satisfying when we realise that we are walking an area where the paths aren't mapped.
  7. Thanks for that! Another vote added.
  8. Not sure where this question should go, but thought I would start here. When you look at a cachers profile and the caches they have found, the page used to display when the cacher had found the cache. This was useful as you could look and see what caches had been found on a particular day and work out whether it would make a nice route, or if it was a cacher who had picked up a TB, then you could see if they had been out since picking it up and whether they had had an opportunity to drop the TB off. Now the page displays when the cache was last found so you cannot tell what caches had been found as part of a day trip. I hope I have explained this correctly. Is there a way to change this or is it set by Groundspeak
  9. So sorry to hear this sad news. We had met Lori several times at the emcache events and even adopted some of his caches when he returned to Hungary. Our thoughts are with his family.
  10. I'm interested to know what happens to Premium member only caches. If you can import a GPX of your found caches which includes Premium member only caches won't this defeat the object of having it Premium member only and leave more caches open to abuse by those who must not be named!
  11. HazelS -Virgin is Gmail now - it swapped over a few months ago. I logged onto Virgin webmail and checked the spam and all my notifications were in there. You can only access the Spam filter by logging onto webmail directly, not through Outlook or any other means. Karon
  12. I'm with Virgin Media (NTL) which I think is now Google mail so that explains the problem. I've just found all the messages in my Spam.
  13. I'm not getting notifications of finds of my own caches either. I've noticed this has been going on since before Christmas.
  14. I had problems with My Finds PQ's last week - arrived eventually, and todays PQ's have not arrived either. Karon
  15. There isn't an online version even for members. I'm hoping to PDF a copy later so will post if no-one else has.
  16. Thanks for your comments Mr B, but we have tried all of those. Garmin suggested doing the firmware update, but having taken the unit back we are unwilling to go and repurchase until we know what the real situation is. It seems strange that the store can have two units with the same problem. If no-one else has the problem or has but fixed it with an update we might accept that we were unlucky and try another one.
  17. We bought a Dakota 20 yesterday and found that the compass calibration failed on the 3rd step. We tried several times but could not get the compass calibrated. We took it back to Go Outdoors and they tried the unit and also could not get it to work. A second unit also failed in the same way. Has anyone else had problems with getting the compass calibrated. We got a refund on the unit until we can get some idea of whether this is a real problem. Regards Karon
  18. Hi, An answer to one of your questions -the best cache in the South East. We haven't done many caches in the south but we visit there fairly frequently so hope to do more. Our best cache so far was in Kent - Tom's Treasure Chest. This was combined with the Hucking Ramble which gave a good walk and finding Tom's TC was the highlight. It just epitomised what treasure hunting is all about. If this is in your area you really should give it a go. Karon
  19. Thanks for that. I've downloaded and got my 10 caches loaded. At least I can play with it now. Karon
  20. I'd like to try a version of cachemate, to see if it works on my pda and whether I can get on with it. Des anyone know if i can get a trial version or do I have to pay to download it. I know it's not expensive but I would like to explore it first. Thanks Karon
  21. I have this problem too. We put out a multi yestersay, starting very close to our house, and it puts 2 other caches as closer -1 is two villages a way!
  22. Hubby and I both have geocaching accounts and wonder if it is possible to join them together and maybe have a more sensible name. It seems daft both logging visits when we always go caching together. If we do join accounts will we lose all our individual logs and icons. Thanks Karon
  23. No, my hotmail messages do not have the unsafe sender warning. As a previous poster mentioned I have now added GC address to my contacts list, so hopefully that will have helped. I'm now getting messages but I suspect the ones I missed in the week may be gone for good. Regards Karon
  24. Thanks for all the replies. Its nice to know it wasn't just me and a few mail messages from today have come through now, but not the ones that I have missed during the week. Perhaps they'll turn up later. Thanks again Karon
