  1. Reduced to a benchmark wanderer-do I need help? Yes, well, help me with this poll: Should I eat the fruit or find a benchmark?
  2. I totally agree, the post isn't the point.. though. GEOCaching is fun and ought to be looking upon as a hobby if you want or a sport if you choose-it's up to you.
  3. I'll pay you $80 for it and I'll pay shipping.
  4. Wow! Look at all those replies-all in one day. It sure is better to find a cache rather than go home empty handed.. Anyway-happy caching! Maybe I'll se you on the trail?
  5. You are looking for a cache and can't find it! You look and look and cannot find it. It really is awful, and you have to go home, on the other hand, it is fun!! and you don't want to leave yet.. just one more look over there.. anyway.. How long looking for the unfound, before you leave?
  6. I own one of these fantastic compasses. It is a sighting compass and all you have to do is look down for a bearing and don't need to turn dials and use mirrors. When you look through its peep whole, you get another reading which is accurate to the quarter of a degree. It is light enough for GEOCaching, although is a top-of-the-line compass and for half price.. it is a steal! Brunton Blue-$33.50: http://www.pro-outdoors.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/scstore/Clearance-Corner.html?L+scstore+ghjz6145ff2d072d+104169705
  7. Go here for the half price PAGE of $33.50-where it shows the price-bottom of page. This ia fantastic compass for the price they are selling it for. It is about the best compass you can carry for GEOCaching..-that's light enough. http://www.pro-outdoors.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/scstore/Clearance-Corner.html?L+scstore+ghjz6145ff2d072d+1041697056
  8. GO HERE-THE BRUNTON BLUE IS ON SALE FOR LESS THAN I BOUGHT IT!!!!!!!!! http://www.pro-outdoors.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/scstore/p-PRO-102245.html?L+scstore+ghjz6145ff2d072d+1041682639
  9. I use a Brunton Blue Sighting Compass Survey Master. It gives a fast heading just by looking down on top of the unit without turning any dials or using mirrors. It also gives a quarter degree accuracy on heading if you look through it's peep hole. I got mine online for sale at the site below, although the price has gone back up to $70 from $40 I purchased it for (they may give you the sale price if you ask?). Brunton Survey Master http://www.pro-outdoors.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/scstore/p-PRO-102245.html?E+scstore I had checked around looking at compasses online before making my pick above. My second choice, which was mainly just a color of casing thing.. was the one below which is still on sale. I believe that the one below would be much like the Survey Master, is a Suunto, and is selling for about $40, is on sale for about $30 off the list price and is also very good to about a quarter degree accuracy. I found this great price at a Hollywood Cinematography site. Suunto: http://store.yahoo.com/cinemasupplies/suunkbcom.html Finally, if you check on Ebay under "compass" and also www.geartrade.com under "compass", you ought to find what you are looking for. For instance, the "Outback" is selling new for about half price on Ebay. Good luck
  10. I use NIMH Energizer. I charge 2 up while the other 2 are being used.
  11. My Magellan GPS says 63 and the Ford Bronco 2 says 65. I believe the GPS. I agree with the post 2 before myself that says the auto makers don't want a bad rap for causing a speeding ticket.. My sister has an Ford Exporer and her car was same according to her Magellan GPS.. her Ford was about 2 MPH slow in the speedometer.
  12. The above post was a bit unclear.. Itching the tape IS better since the wound WASN'T hurt as bad with the tape.

  14. I believe that Poison Oak is a lot like Poison Ivy. The greatest feeling perhaps in all the world with a Poison Oak rash is putting it under running warm-hot water.. I recently combated some last month. It was minor, although after numerious bouts, I've come up with a great technique for handling it. First off, the oozing is great-it saturates bandages or clothes or anything you put over it.. normally.. Last time I got it-last month, I covered the oozing rash areas with paper towels wadded up, then covered the paper towel entirely with DUCT TAPE! The duct tape held great-even under water. It was also didn't allow oozing-thus spreading.. also I could actually scratch the tape with it got itchy enough and it would hurt the wound as much as being bare. But the best thing I've ever done happened last time-not just the DUCT TAPE and that was HONEY!! I covered the wound in honey. Read on the web about the antibacterial effects of honey. The honey kept it moist, and it healed in a few days. IT WAS AMAZING HOW WELL HONEY WORKED!!! 1) I put the honey on the wound (rash). 2) I put several layers of paper towel over it. 3) I put duct tape over the paper towel and on the skin around the towel to hold it still

  17. Technically is should count, only if you find it with a GPS. It DOES NOT count if you don't find it with a GPS, and you have to refind it with a GPS in order for it to officially count.
  18. Your best bet is to go on Ebay and lookup "Pioneer GPS" This is a 2 channel GPS that works wonderful. It is nearly as good as the best units. It has speedometer and saves 100 points, has a light and gives lots of information. The reason I suggest it is I've used it and I know it is a very good unit. It'll find caches and it'll be inexpensive. On Ebay, it commonly sells in auctions for about $40. If you persist on auctions the very common overlapping auctions for this unit-you'll probably be able to purchase it for $40 or under.
  19. quote:Originally posted by Night Tracker:GPScache, you have mail... He did it! He did it! Night Tracker sold me his Magellan 315 for $80 plus $10 shipping and it came in one piece and also in fantastic shape! He was very polite and friendly and and all around good guy to do business with. If you have any business to do with him.. I highly recommend you contact him immediately! Sincerly, and happy holidays, GPSCache and his Mom.
  20. Last spring I visited a forest area where there were lots of dogs. They barked and blocked the way. I found two metal rods and banged them together as I passed they left me alone.
  21. I emailed you.. Please send me an email and I'll reply. quote:Originally posted by Night Tracker:E-mail me, you near the bay area?
  22. I have a GPS where you can manually enter in the elevation in. I've used my altimeter watch to get the elevation then punch it in-I've also gotten it from Topo maps. It gets a quick fix this way that is very accurate in coordinate.
  23. I may want to purcase the 315 from you if it is still for sale-the used one.. quote:Originally posted by Night Tracker:I'll sell one NIB with warranty card for 100.00 plus shipping. Or my personal unit used for 85.00 plus shipping. Both have been updated to v3.15. both come with Datasend CD and PC cord, owners book and fresh AAs. The used one has found over 100 caches... I bought a Maridian Gold but plan to keep one of the 315s... NT
  24. ALTITUDE I've used an ALTITUDE WATCH to punch in the altitude, this increased the accuracy right away. Or, acquiring the altitude off a topo map helps. UTM UTM coordinate system helps get the accuracy to the meter. I've written on my hand the last few numbers of the Easting and Northing and used it to get right to the exact coordinate -"ground zero". COMPASS Helps read the direction of the bearing to point right at the coordinate.
