  1. I had the unit on for 4 hours and the temperature showed it being a lot warmer than it actually was. The only thing I can think of why its showing warmer than it is, maybe from being held or my hand is over a sensor. Not sure where it pulls that data from. It was at least 10 degrees warmer than it actually was out and I verified it with a standalone electronic thermometer.

  2. I mentioned it earlier but has anyone see this while in automotive mode using the city nav maps?

I have not seen the drift problem while driving on roads and I have seen it regularly while hiking off-road.

Perhaps others on this Forum who know more than I do on this topic can comment on your question. However, I believe the GPSr knows when it is on a road and uses data points in its map database which show the center line of roads. Thus, the display will always show you on a road.

    Don

I didn't think garmin used snap to road on any of their gps devices like the tomtom.

  3. I was in a small canyon a few weeks ago and there were several caches along the way. A few times my colorado had be climbing the side of the hill. The needle was spinning in all sorts of directions. I hate to admit but my better half with her 60CSx had better accuracy than my colorado in the canyon. She insisited it was in another direction and she was right and found it. Had several instances of this happening.

  4. Found it and turned it off since I never needed it on my GPS V and have not seen need now.

Used the Colorado now on a number of cache outings with no troubles or complaint. That is till this last weekend. Went out and got 18 along a road in a canyon with power lines following it. The first few were not in the canyon and I got them with no trouble. Once in the canyon the distance to cache worked fine but the pointer would not point to the cache. Hard to zero in that way. Not sure if turning off compass will help or if it was the power lines. Do know now back in town it is working fine.

    Its a mystery.

Not a mystery, gps signals get bounced in a canyon. Can also happen in valleys or on hillsides.

  5. We just went out and bought a garmin Colorado 400t. We've gone on a few caches with it, and the accuracy was always spot on. All the reviews of it said their accuracy was almost always under 15', but unfortunately mine has turned a 180 on me.

I've been getting anywhere from 25- 80 feet off at any given time. I even sat on our local trail for about 2 hours making a waypoint, walking away and trying to "find" it again. I never got within 15 feet of where I actually set it while it would say 20 feet to location, then jump to 40 feet from location. This can't be normal for this product, or I hope it isn't. Is there something I should have turned on, or off? I recalibrated my compass, my elevation, and nothing seems to help. I can stand in an open field and it will be a good 30 feet off. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

    Any advice would be great

This has been addressed in a great deal on this thread.

  6. One more bug persistent since the Colorado release is that the intermittent waterbodies still don't show up on the GPS. I just verified in ver.2.6.

Anything tagged as intermittent water will look tan like city limit polygons on CityNav. Barely visible.

On every other color GPS Garmin ever made (Oregon too?) the intermittent water shows as a blue crosshatch.

Not on my colorado intermittent water shows as blue.

  7. I have been reading the forum quite a bit and I saw that it is recomended that you should re-calibrate the compass when you turn the unit on after it has been off each time is that right.

    Scubasonic

I recalibrate it when I change batteries and when I start my day caching at the trailhead. Other than that I usually don't have to calibrate any more,

  8. my colorado 300 has also location errors up to 200 meters. - i contacted garmin and got an rma to send it back.

some days later i got the same unit and the statement: unit has been tested and is working correctly

so garmin is not aware of the problem - did anybody else contact garmin with the location error problem? :D

Quite a few people have and some people have had their units replaced. Since the problem is intermittent, it is no wonder they don't see this problem when it was being repaired. If they did a diagnostic on the circuitry and it came up good with nothing wrong. Obviously the drift is being caused by software and not hardware.

My question I just thought of is have anyone ever had this issue in automotive mode or by using auto routing or is it just happening in geocaching mode or off road mode.

  9. Not quite sure what your talking about refering to counting to 60 minutes and seconds. It would be helpful to know the type of gps you borrowed. When you pick a geocache try clicking other conversions, it is located next to the coords on the geocahe page. See if any of those formats fit in. Also there is probably a place in the setup on your gps which you can change the datum entry mode,

The etrex H series is a good line of gps.

  10. Hello, first post, but been caching for 4 years.

Recently started paperless caching, using GSAK and CacheMate. I have a Garmin Etrex Vista and the wife has the above Magellan. My problem is with GSAK and the limits that it has for the Magellan. She has a 64MB card in it, so it can hold any number of waypoints that I would want to put in it, but GSAK does not allow for more than 200 points for any Magellan. Is there a way to reset this?

So far, my only solution has been to limit my Pocket Queries to 200 points, as I am wanting to keep the Garmin and Magellan in sync.

    Thanks in advance.

    Doc

I regularly upload 500 waypoints to any of my Magellan units using GSAK, so I'm not sure why you should be having any problem...I'll get back to you, but in the meantime, the folks in the GSAK forums are very helpful.

You may upload 500 waypoints but you dont get descriptions or hints because the magellan doesn't support over 200 of them with hints and descriptions.

  11. Triton isn't a bad gps if you got it for less than $100.00 and if you are looking for a inexpensive gps just stick with the triton. Triton has some operating issues at times with some of the higher end models but as you said you are looking for inexpensive.

  12. Well since magellan limits the gpx entires to 200 your kind of stuck. I used to use the macro where I select the center point of my database and it then caclculates sets of 200 until the who database is done. It usually have like 4-5 separate files that I will store on my explorist. I don't use it know since I upgraded to a colorado.

Defintley a pain to keep it up to date and then having to go and change files once you leave a certain area. Before I got my colorado I only used to put in the my days caching info into it which was always less than 200 but now I can keep up to 2000 geocaches with my colorado so I keep them stored and go back out caching till they are all done.

  13. Thanks for all the help... I think that answers my question.

So... if someone was happy to print out mapquest directions and have a navigator who used the GPS and the directions in conjunction, they *might* be satisfied with that arrangement.

But if someone wanted to reroute on the fly, or spent time travelling alon, they would probably be much happier with the city navigator maps.

I assume that there's all sorts of waypoint information (restaurants, gas stations, etc) in the City Navigator maps as well? Is that right?

Yeh there are tons of waypoints on the city navigator maps.

  14. OK, cool. Works fine now.

FYI, the image linking does not seem to work on a Colorado. They do not give the "image" button anywhere. Maybe it will work on an Oregon. Works fine on my Nuvi.

Thanks for all of the work.

I have just tested the macro with spoiler images on the Oregon 300, and, as for the Colorado, there is now "Image" button.

Can you post a screenshot of the colorado "image" button? It doesn't seem to work for me. What firmware are you running on the colorado?

One other thing who did you order your Orergon 300 through? Every site I have seen them on is all pre-orders.

Sorry, there was a type in my last post, "now" should be "NO".

The Oregon 300 has been available in all GPS shops here in Norway, since July 18.

Weird they are still on pre-order here in the US. Ok thanks for clarifying the typo. Thats a bummer that the oregon nor the colorado can do the Image button thing. I was looking forward to that.

  16. Sri I dont find any suggestion , or installation instruction how to use this macro on Garmin Co

    only on NUVI ????

To download the SPOILER photos to Co is not the prob, but you cannot seen wich pictures belongs tot THAT cachenumber ???? :o

It works on a Colorado the same as a Nuvi. When you run the macro, you will see a Colorado as a choice of GPS.

I understand that part of running the macro but did you actually get the spoiler picture to show up on the colorado? Or the image button to access the spoiler picture?
