  1. You need to either buy the national geographic maps or accu-terra maps from magellan.
  2. You have to go to mark a waypoint, it will have your current coords in there, then you just edit the numbers and save.
  3. Wow what a canned response. Yeh even though we are charging you $100.00 bucks it only has some area. So in theory we should only pay $50.00 if we do garmin math. The section line and the rsponse by the tech is hilarious. Wonder if they even picked up a gps before.
  4. I bought a two shields for my colorado and a friends. Both were not the right sized. Emailed them and they sent me out two new ones of the right size and it was at my door in 3 days. They should fix the problem for you right away
  5. The file doesn't look unusual to me. The few UTF8 characters are not unusual for text in geocaches of the region. See for yourself: http://filebin.ca/vhtavo/krkbug.gpx Just to make sure, I removed all my gpx files from the CO (originally I had all geocaches from Croatia in a gpx file), removed the Current.gpx, and uploaded just this one file containing a single cache, and repeated the exercise - with the same result. Anyone wants to take the bait and try for himself? I had a problem with removing gpx files from my Colorado and then it still showing caches in geocache mode even though when hooking back up to my computer it showed no gpx files in the gps. It drove me nuts trying to dump the caches off of my gps. Finnaly figured out that the only fix was to just delete the actual gpx folder itself. All was fixed after that. You wouldn't happen to have a Mac would you?
  6. Make sure mapsource is set to the right com port. It is usally is COM1, but it may be another com port
  7. The place is a scam its a hit and miss if you ever get your suff. Its the same company as broadway photo who also has horrible reviews. Cancel you credit card, dispute the charges and move on and order from a reputable dealer like buy.com or electronicadirect.com or amazon. I bought my colorado through electronicadirect.com and it was on my doorstep in 3 days.
  8. My bad I was thinking of the 60CSx. It can be on the SD card but it is handled differently. Note that gpx files loaded from the SD card are handled differently from those stored in internal memory. The gpx files on the SD card are loaded every time the Colorado starts. This has two drawbacks 1) all tracks, routes and waypoints will be reloaded even if they have been deleted on the Colorado and 2) large gpx files like pocket queries will be reloaded slowing down the startup process. For these reasons it is probably best to manage gpx files in internal memory rather than the SD card.
  9. Well if your friend made of copy of the file and put in on USB then its not a legal copy. Regardless, you can't always take install files and put it on a USB and expect it to install right. There are security routines on some installers that require it to be installed from CD. Sounds to me though not all the files are there.
  10. Geocaches are not read from the SD card only from internal memory. For your second issue try search by name, coloroado will only show the closest locations to you.
  11. Before I got my colorado I used an HP IPAQ 2795. Plenty of internal memory, fast processor, hard plastic cover and in my opinion pretty durable. The hard plastic cover that goes across screen is a great feature and its pretty rugged around the edges. I have dropped it several times and it has held up. Waterproof probably not IPX 7 rated but I have had it in the rain and nothing has happened to it. It does have a hefty price tag of $400.00+. I also use it for business to so its the best of both worlds.
  12. There are new topo maps for the Explorist line. You can buy them on magellans website. http://www.magellangps.com/products/map.as...amp;PRODID=2119 AccuTerra is a map content product for use on Personal Navigation Devices and handheld GPS units. The focus of AccuTerra is to provide the best GPS background maps available for off-road and recreational users in the public lands. Intermap has aggregated data from numerous sources and built a map product that represents the best available data on a hand held device for our National Forests, National Parks, BLM lands, State Parks, and Local Parks.
  13. Since I have had my colorado I have not had to go back to my explorist 600. However when I am caching my better half carries a 60CSx so its basically the best of both worlds. I like however being able to leave my PDA at home becuase the colorado has all the info I need. I did notice a drift last weekend on a friends colorado that put him 127+ feet off fromt the cache when it was right it front of him but since there were multiple gps's in the group it was easy to tell his unit was in error. Probably not a good thing if you were by yourself. I do carry my explorist 600 in my backpack when I go out alone but I have not had to use it as of yet.
  14. Those USB serial connectors are flaky. They work with some thing and other things well the results are really random. Someone else on the forums had the same issue of it not communicating with computer. The cable might work fine but it the gps that is not liking the connection. Get a serial port board and add it to the computer. They are like $14.00 bucks at newegg.com
  15. Yeh their topos are not serial number protected and can be installed on multiple gps.
  16. If you order the DVD you will be able to using mapsource copy maps to the your 60CSx
  17. hi storm, you're kidding It's better not to discuss politics here . . . Regards - Anton Was not discussing politics I was using it as an example. There are US export laws that prohibit the sale and transfer of GPS units. Even if you were going to give one away as a gift to someone who lives in a country that US does not consider friendly and you live in the US. Technically you are in violation of US Export Laws.
  18. 2009 has updated roads and poi's. Thats about it
  19. nonsense . . . All GPSRs in Europe are imported. There is no law against gps units from NA. But as already mentioned there would be not much benefit trading an old Magellan in Europe. Regards - Anton International Use. Software and other materials from the Magellan sites may also be subject to export controls of the United States and/or such other country whose export restriction may apply. Export Control laws prohibit the export of certain technical data and software to certain territories such as Libya, Cuba, North Korea, Syria, Iran or Iraq. No software or other materials from the Magellan sites may be downloaded or exported to any such countries, companies and/or individuals that may be subject to such export restrictions or proscribed by the United States Export Administration Regulations without first complying with the licensing requirements of such regulations. Magellan does not authorize the downloading or exportation of any software or technical data from the Magellan sites to any jurisdiction prohibited by the Export Laws. Obvioulsy Germany was not one of those certain territories I was speaking generally. If you sell a gps unit to a Syrian National in Germany persay you are in violation of the law.
  20. Technically there are laws that prohibit you to sell a North American gps unit overseas. All those wonderful import/export laws. However people do it all the time.
  21. There are some older garmin units that cannot use NT data sets. You need to check the compatibility chart on the garmin page. Some newer unit will not run the non-NT set also so check the chart. The NT maps are compressed so you are getting more map data for less space on your gps. You will not notice any speed difference when the map redraws.
  22. Accuracy is great on the 60CSx, I cannot be specific because it depends on where you are and coverage but it gets me directly to the cache without a problem. You might want to look at a 76CSx if you want something that floats. Both units have the same insides.
  23. Canned response. As a joke I asked for them to add a holographic heads up display to the colorado and got the same response. Its funny that did not even read my request.
  24. It has happened several times to people. Unit has to be sent out for repairs is the only fix.
