  1. I currently have a TomTom One and I noticed I can't seem to get close enough to caches to find them if enough clues aren't provided. I am looking at purchasing a new gps unit and was looking at Garmin's GPSMAP® 60 , what you guys think about it?

Don't go with the 60 it has some satellite issues. Does not work well in heavy tree cover. Go with the 60CSx, its a much better unit.

  2. I just want to be able to register my Explorist 600 on Magellan's site, but I can't even do that because of my serial number doesn't follow the 0118 format. I'm trying to give Magellan money for their AccuTerra maps, but I can't even do that!

Give them the serial number under your battery on the microsd card holder. The one that shows on your reciever is missing a digit.

  3. I would not recommend a Magellan product to any one

I bought an explorist 500 5 months ago and now it will no longer load anything via the usb cable.

I spoke to Magellan they sent me new driver software and a new usb cable, that did not fix the problem and when I called them back I was told the unit is no longer in production so I was out of luck.

when I pointed out to them that there website said it had a one year warrenty they told me that was only on purchases made through the website not from retail stores.

I am rather upset as the only reason I upgraded to this unit was because my older GPS did not have USB capabilities. :D

Thats BS about the warranty only being good if you bought it through them. I would call back and keep calling. What they will do is trade in your old unit for a triton under warranty. Just be persistent.

  4. Well, after spending the better part of June researching a GPSr for myself, a newbie I might add, I settled on the Colorado. I went on vacation for the last 10 days, get home this week and see the new Oregon model. Now, I know many CO users are ticked for this after the CO launching just months ago.

So now I’m in a new quandary. Get a CO like I planner or the OR. Now, I’m not a hardcore hiker or see myself as a maniacal geocacher either. Basically, I’ll use it to geocache with my 5 year old who loved being outside and some local hikes with her as well. I have skills with geographic information systems and assume, maybe incorrectly, that I could use the info gathers in the GPSr from hikes and geoaching and map it in GIS? That would be cool.

I’m looking for some input, from CO users and from those who this week picked up their Ors, one what would be the better choice. From what I’ve read on the other threads and G-O-$ers wiki, the OR seems to be a decent product and I can’t really discern one way or the other which is which.

But I want to get something within the next couple weeks and that limits the amount of info I can gather on the OR from new owners.

So any info, opinions, insight or otherwise that hasn’t been thrown out there is appreciated.

Really it comes down to input method. Do you want a touch screen or do you want the colorodo controls.

  5. For those of you that think I am mis-stating my case to my side of the story, I am not. This is what really happened. After reading and snooping more about this unit I now realize that this is a major malfunction of this unit. If I do keep the thing, I will never again be without a bag. Does anyone recommend a water proof case that has worked?

Yeh we understand what happened. You should have tried talking to another CSR. The unit is advertised as waterproof. The unit is less than a year old. You should not have to pay for the unit to be fixed. Talk to a supervisor. I would have fought it till I won.

There aren't any FORM cases available for the Colorado yet, probably because its still too new or because it supposively waterproof.

You can also dispute the case with your credit card company about the purchase. Credit card company will reimburse you if garmin refuses to fix it under their warranty. Most credit card companies have purchase protection policy.

  6. I got a little lost on this thread. Is it the Colorado or Oregon that has the 600 ft. accuracy issue ?

I returned the Colorado because of several issues. Garmin please don't disappoint me with the Oregon.

Sorry - meant to post in the "Garmin Oregon Wiki Thread" Can someone move it into there?

Supposively from some testing done already there might be accuracy issues with the oregon also. Read the wiki. As for my colorado 300, I have never experienced a drift and there are only a few that have had tracks off by 600ft. Most report problems of 200 ft or less.

  7. Has anyone else had problem with the Colorado's and splashing water on them? I have had mine two weeks and the wife spilled the melted ice from a fast food cup on the unit. It is now shot. I thought they would resist more than that. Now to top it off, Garmin is charging me to fix it and were rude about it besides. What's a good Lowrance unit to buy?? I have always had great luck with their customer service and will probably never own a Garmin again.

You colorado is under a year old. They have to fix the unit regardless of what happened to it. It does carry a IPX 7 rating and make sure you mention that and then ask to talk to a supervisor if they don't budge.

Actually, that's not completely true. Customer misuse will void your warranty no matter how old the unit is. Water damage is considered as misuse by the manufacturer. Granted it's supposed to be water resistant but the final determination is at the discretion of the manufacture. I'd send it to them and let them make the determination prior to taking any other action. They will probably take care of it. Just my 2 cents...

I called Garmin to ask them this same question and they told me that if the unit had a IPX grade that if the unit was under the specification of the IPX grade and it failed that they would replace it. I even used the example if I spilled water on my colorado from a cup and if I accidently dropped it in a stream. They said yes.

  9. I have had the colorado out last week in very heavy tree cover inside a national forest and this past weekend in some deep canyons. My better half uses a 60Csx and I have the colorado. Both trips track lines have been almost identical. Since we always have the 60CSx, I know for a fact there has never been a drift. My better half would have said to me "where the heck are you going its over here" hehe

I was the original, poster of the topic and when I checked back in to read what the responses were, my post was missing. It still had me listed as the OP but you had posted the information,...so I just chalked it up to a SNAFU ???

When I saw the topic, I clicked on it and there was nothing there. So I waited a few because I was going to respond and I didn't see anything so I went to the website and cut and pasted the info. I know sometimes after posting when the forum errors out you don't realize your post is not there. Happened to me several times.

  11. "Magellan has just announced new ToPo maping. "
    Your title is misleading.

My take on that website is that they have nothing to do with Magellan, rather they produce Magellan compatible maps. Do they have Magellan's blessing, maybe/not?

One thing for sure, they'll never get Garmin's blessing. So if they want to produce Garmin compatable maps they'll need to go the cGPSmapper route like the various maps seen on this site.

I didn't make the topic, someone else did. The forum must have errored out when the original poster was making his post and it just created the topic. I found out the info and posted it sine the op didn't check the post.

Well since the only place you can buy them is through magellan and each map is linked to the serial number of the unit. When you went to that website you would have also read when you go to where to buy it says contact magellan. So since magellan sells them on their website, you can be assured they are partnered with magellan.

    http://www.magellangps.com/products/map.as...amp;PRODID=2119

Then click on the map of which one you want and it goes to the buy screen.
