  1. As long as you stay away from all commercial aspects, you will be fine. I have several caches like that. Several caches in wine store parking lots OR several caches in underground wine cellars? (Check out the photos in the wine cellar link!)
  2. Check out this cache. It's an entire wine cellar, & the largest cache in Austria. You find the key & you walk into the cache!
  3. Looking to cache in 3-foot snow? Come to my house! The nano cache is on the sidewalk, and you'll search for it with a snow shovel.
  4. Okay, I'll quote myself! How about a geocaching forum thread or a subgroup or whatever, focused on the "olden days," but open to all? Everyone satisfied?!
  5. So you're SURE that you want to do a TRUE 5/5?? You won't be walking over at low tide - it's got 2,300 meters of water over it. Bonus: you can grab FTF 11 years after the cache was placed in 2002! Almost 1,000 people are watching the listing, so you'll be famous. It's gcg822.
  6. "Never looked back" says it well - if they did, they'd see the typos in their cache listing. Everyone knows they can edit the text even after publication, right?
  7. With voting, some say "Vote early and often." Others disagree. The same holds for multi-logging.
  8. Stencil on the following message in bold yellow letters: Attention - this is NOT a pipe bomb. It is an official geocache.
  9. This cache is in a class by itself: GCG822. It has not been found in 10 YEARS. It's a 5/5 that is 2,300 meters under the sea. It had one visit in 10 years - a DNF.
  10. This proposed "old-timers" group does NOT seem to have an elitist intention. He's looking for cameraderie with those who share his experiences. Any group that does not admit everyone who applies could be accused of elistism. However, many cachers cited examples of groups that are highly restrictive and yet are never thought of as "elistist." Others make a good point that sharing ideas among those with different experiences is valuable also. The point is this: most people enjoy being with those (1) that are like themselves and (2) with those that are different from themselves. Those two situations have different benefits for the participants. Some like more of one situation than the other. It doesn't seem negative unless (1) you totally avoid those different than you, or (2) you judge people negatively based solely on them being different from you. Why not open a "vintage geocaching" thread in the forums?
  11. Tell us a more specific idea & we can make suggestions. Another idea is to look at supplies at Lowes or Home Depot for possibilities.
  12. Sounds like a small town & they could've been there in 10 minutes, but they had to finish their donuts & coffee! ...and maybe a game of checkers.
  13. That's the thing, the whiners are not the ones out there finding caches, just in here whining. That was brutal, Mrs. I. Did Roman hack your account and post that? I don't even get it. Who's whining? For me, someone mentioned ads (and cleavage), and I noted that I just recently started seeing IP address based ads that are "local" to me, and I posted one. And Millions of perplex all over the internets use ad blockers. I hardly think they need to be told to go outside and get fresh air. Adsense ads are extremely intelligent and able to show ads based on the location and browsing habits of an individual. I do have a few theories why you are seeing "cleavage" ads, actually I only have one theory. Guess they're wondering what sites you're at when you're not at gc.com?! Gotta use all of the usual tools to minimize ads discussed in this thread. Also, turn off "location services" on your smartphone except when caching or getting driving directions.
  14. Silly me, thinking it was about having fun and getting outside. That's what "They" want you to think!
  15. Well, now we know what's happening to the missing TB's! People ask everyday - send them this link!
  16. Email sent. Oh, my! That group is so elite it can't be mentioned in the forums!
  17. So you don't kill ticks either? Killing even one wasp to facilitate a cache is just plain wrong. If a bear decides to den-up near a cache hide, do we kill the bear? Is it ok to kill one poison ivy plant to facilitate the cache?
  18. If there's data to be mined, that company will mine it.
  19. Not sure why you would want to do that. The cache logs section of a cache page is about people finding the cache, not about how you felt about their log that was posted when they found the cache. When a clever log is posted, enjoy it and move on. I know my log was clever. Either step is quick & easy - posting the note or sending the email. Or both. Use the note if there's some general interest in what you're saying, and it directly relates to the experience of the specific cache.
  20. The missing TB problem grows because owners don't mark them missing, even when told they're not in the cache & asked by the CO to mark them missing. Result? Caches have lists of phantom TB's.
  21. Some of the "hi-tech" cachers don't read the descriptions anyway, so your warning about hazardous swag isn't enough. I bet it will be nixed by a reviewer.
  22. For a lot of people, that's plenty! Also, the FTF chase gives people a thrill - it adds a competitive challenge that a relaxed search doesn't have.
