  1. Hey guys, went and tried my new 500 for some simple caching today. Couple of questions. 1.When I find one, I can select found on the nuvi and write a comment. These files are stored in a "geocaching_visits) text file. Can I download this directly to geocaching.com or do I have to update the cache finds one at a time. 2. When using a 500, do you find the compass not so good? I bet I did 20 circles waiting and wondering what the arrow would do next. Also, I was on average 10+ feet off on most. Suggestions? Thanks wxfamily
  2. So looking at the Lowrance, does it come with a compass and a program to add cache description? I don't see it anywhere. Also, what does having only 3 million POIs instead of 6 million mean? What is cut out? Thanks
  3. Do they even make either one anymore? Anyway, I looking at both for a good crossover. I do mainly park and grabs up to a half mile, but also need a good car navigator. What are your suggestions? Thanks
  4. How much do you use the iQue's PDA functions (address book, datebook, memopad)? You won't get the PDA functions on the Nuvi (any model). No datebook or memopad and the "Favorites" on a Nuvi are not a replacement for the addressbook. If you like cachemate and especially if you use any of the PDA applications you may end up continuing to use the iQue anyway. That's not to try to persuade you from getting the Nuvi. It's just to be sure you have your expectations set appropriately if you were seriously planning to dump the iQue entirely. The Nuvi will only replace the navigation features ... and if you get the right model you'll be able to play mp3s, too. I've been using an iQue 3600 since 2003. I've been trying hard to find a true replacement for it for at least the last two years since Garmin officially stopped supporting it. I've pretty much given up. I've played with a couple of Nuvis but I can't take them seriously because after six years I'm so totally hooked on having the rich features of the addressbook tightly integrated with the navigation functions and having the nav and PDA functions all in one single pocket-sized device. I'm also totally hooked on the screen resolution of the iQue. The Nuvi models I played with had less than half the resolution so you get less information on the screen at any zoom level. The closest I've been able to come is a Palm T|X with Garmin's Mobile XT on it. Mobile XT looks and functions nearly identical to a Nuvi but the Palm T|X has the same screen resolution as the iQue and the integrated PDA functions. The only hangup is that the Palm doesn't have an internal GPS so you have to use an external Bluetooth GPS. ...ken... I don't use any of the apps on the palm, I just got it at a good price a few years ago and was the best crossover I could find. Besides, the battery last maybe 10mins, so I need a new one for the park and grabs we do.
  5. Without going through all this. I have found a nuvi 750 for less than $150. Should I purchase this instead of a 500 and use these programs? All we really do is park and grabs, maybe walking up to a half a mile on mainly sunny days. The cheapest 500 I find is $250. If I understand correctly, this program will allow me to see the all the details and hints? Do I get a compass to "point" me in the right direction when I am a 100 feet away? I loved that feature on my iQue. Would a 750 get me that close? Thanks
  6. Thanks, however with the pilotsnips or jjreds, will the the nuvis other than 500 display all the description info and hints?? thanks
  7. Looking to dump my old iQue for a nuvi 500. I enjoy using cachmate and cachnav, so would I get similar compass/list information with a 500? Thanks
  8. Hey guys, I have been using my iQue for the last 3 years and it has preformed okay, but it's worn out requiring resets and restarts and the battery last maybe 15mins now so... I am looking at upgrading along with getting new map data. My question is, to what. I have looked a good sale for the Nuvi 750 at $170 shipped but will this work? My wife and I are more park and grab than anything. We might walk up to a half mile or so, but that is it. We also would need something for driving. On my iQue, I had Cachnav and Cachmate along with my premium membership. Worked well, especially using the Cachnav and the compass direction. Took me to within 5-10ft numerous times. Can these or similar programs work on the 750 or another nuvi? I like all the paperless features that I got on cachmate. Thanks for your help before I waste my money. Thanks
  9. I want to download checked waypoints, but they seem to only load as .loc files with hardly any info, can i group them using .gpx so I can get the info that goes along with each cach? One by one stinks when there are 30!
  10. iQue 3600, for both travel and geocaching. I have nothing to complain about!
  11. Do you always have to load the cach waypoint into the address book before you get started or even look at a map? I wish I could just route to the cach from cachmate. I have cachmate 4.1 and cachnav. Am I missing something?
  12. I hope someone can help. I reinstalled the original palm desktop that came with the iQue. Still does not hotsync. What the ??
  13. Also, do I need to install a "service pack 2"? I somehow reinstalled palm desktop 4.1 on my computer and now I can no longer hotsync. I just did it the other day with out a problem. What the hell did I do? It just says " the conection between the hand held and the desktop could not be established..." I have read all I could as to fix this. Now what? Uhhhhhhh!
  14. I am looking at a 1gb, maybe a 512 since I don't travel too much. Something that would cover a 8 hour trip. What is the advantage to a 1gb or 2gb over a 512mb? Do I really need that much? Would a 512 hold most of the SE U.S.? Finally, where can I get it cheap? Ebay? Is there a better more trustworthy place? Which one do I need? Thx
  15. I want to take a trip from Chattanooga to Knoxville and only want to find caches along I-75. Is there an easy way to do this search online? Thanks
  16. Reset works...I just wanted to avoid loosing any data. I didn't. thanks
  17. Yes, but I hate to loose everything. I will if I have too.
  18. I have had it for a few months now. Its been doing great and have no complaints. My wife takes it to work and wants to put in some info. She was not having any problems til she turned it off and hours later it never came back on. So i think maybe the battery is dead? I go home to put it on the desk charger and nothing. Not even the red light saying its charging. Not drops, no problems what so ever, just stopped. Any suggestions????
  19. I am assuming that cachenav was downloaded when I downloaded cachemate? I will try the "off-road" to see if that works. I think you did a great job with the answer.
  20. The other day I went hunting and got down to 1-2 ft of my destination. I reset everything and changed the datum to WSG85(or whatever it is) from tristian 68' and now can't seem to go less than 200ft. I switched to "at gps location" But that does not seem to matter. Any ideas?
