  3. During my first few cache hunts I printed out all the info. and carried it with me- but I didn't really use it very much while I was looking. Now I just read the info. on the website and jot down the coordinates and some clues on a little notepad. Using your minds-eye (remembering what you've read) isn't really that difficult and you get better each time you go out- it's really nice.
  4. i totally agree. if you cant leave anything other than garbage then dont leave anything at all. i put a lot of effort into putting nice things into my cache. and yeah the cache is more than just the trinkets- but obviously people like finding them or we wouldnt all be putting them in our cache. id rather see an empty cache with a log book compared to a cache with a bunch of dirty plastic figurines, or things you find on the side of the road before you get there. it just seems gross? whats that movie?- play it foward- if we all put some thoughtfull stuff in our caches everyone could get a treat once in a while- rather then the people who take everything and replace it with litter they find on the way there! hahaha.. im being sarcastic, but its true to a degree. either way- have fun everyone, northwest20

  6. hey ron, i used to have a pda with a magellen gps. it was pretty fun- i used it for tracking animals, birds, etc. with this free downloadable program: http://www.cybertracker.com my gps came with a cd that had maps of every county in the us on it. so i would put the pda in a little cradle it sits in and download the map for the county/city i was in. the maps were pretty good- but not super accurate all the time because roads change or get closed down, etc. so you download the map you want and then you can put in (enter) coordinates of the caches. it can store alot- so im sure you could enter quite a few of the cache coordinates with no problem. im not to sure on how to download the actual web page to a pda- mine (called a palm vx) wasnt the type you connect to the internet. i recently sold my pda and magellan gps and bought a garmin etrex- because it is much more tough (waterproof and in a tough plastic case). the pda is more fragile and i was always worried id drop it or loose the pen it came with. also the gps connects to the back and there is an antenna that i always bumped- it just felt really fragile. hope this helps? northwest20

  8. Hey TJ, You can write me down as another female geocacher. One day at work a friend of mine (another female) came over with her GPS and told me about geocaching. I worked at a park and there was a cache hidden there. It was interesting to think people were hiding and finding caches in a place I knew really well. I had a GPS of my own I used for tracking animals/birds. I had been wanting to get a new one and finally did after I found out about this sport. I go alone or with my dog. Sometimes I take my younger cousins- it's a great way to teach about navigation. -northwest20
  9. What happened to your cache? Someone found it and ruined it? Sorry it that's the case. Hope you have better luck after the move. -northwest20

  11. just a comment on raw-hide: i used to work at a vet hospital and helped in many surgeries removing the raw hide from dogs stomachs. its not really good for dogs and builds up inside them. ever since having to watch that for the first time ive been letting everyone know who talks about raw-hide. thats just my opinion. (a good substitue are those hooves or pig ears). take care, northwest20

  13. Hey Dale, Yeah it does seem like people replied with pretty inappropriate comments. If you were to fall in a huge pit or whatever like you explained the medical bills - if you didnt kill yourself- would be significant and it's pretty sad to think people would call that sue-happy. Too bad people judged you on the little information you gave. It didnt make me think you were trying to earn some big $$. hahahah! Actually the other day I went out looking for a cache and found a huge square shaped cement lined hole that was so deep I couldnt see the bottom and it was big enough for a person to fall in. Luckily I noticed-because it would have been easy to miss(there was tall vegetation around it). I was in a public park/hiking area. Im not sure on the liability thing- id just hope people who place them take a good look around before they invite people to visit. People who hide them should know the area pretty well- I dont think they should be held liable (unless they were trying to hurt people) but morally they should investigate- because most people wouldnt be in those areas unless they were told about a cache anyway. Unexpected things can always happen- but what you're talking about sounds avoidable. Glad you didnt get hurt. Your message to us is important! Reminds us all to be a little more careful when we go out searching in new areas. Its also a good reminder to the people who hide them- to make sure the surrounding area isnt dangerous. It's easy to get tunnel vision and forget sometimes. Keep on caching!!!! northwest20
