Hi Danie can we get these stats for cachers with over 250 finds?

  2. Hi

I am in Umhglanga for the next week. What are the GREAT caches in the area? The higher the terrain the better! I am prepared to drive an hour or so. No interest in urban hides, not interested in clever containers, not interested in puzzles. Great locations , secret spots, out of comfort zone. Hikes, forests, swimming spots are my kind of thing. If it involves bots, cliffs, ropes, scuba gear I am REALLY keen, but will need help with gear. What suggestions????

Hey capedoc what dates are you here till? I would be more than happy to join you and take you to various caches.

  3. Hmm, thats a strange observation. I would have thought that the more caches one does in a period - (eg, lots of caches in one day), the less you would write, as it might be harder to remember specifics about the caches, whereas if you just went and found 1 epic cache in a day, you would remember the experience better and have more to say about it.

I think what you will find happening is people do a lot of copy paste logs with very high word counts to keep their words per log up for badgegen.

  4. Tarisma, will you be trying again with us?

Any chance you took a gps bread crumb trail as you went?

I most definitely will be trying with you guys again. A friend of mine was using his Garmin watch I think he may have the track logs with him. But at worst I can recall the hiking route and have a fairly comprehensive map of the area.

  5. How about an event at Keith Bush camp - when have we had an event with a terrain of 4?

Would be a t 4.5 its a 2 day hike. And there has been one in KZN.

Keiths is a nice easy hike not a lot of climbing. There's also a coin in the cache there. I really shouldn't have dropped it in retrospect. Also if you stay there its quite a quick day hike up greys pass to the top. Where you can grab a couple of Cache Quests caches. (I think 1 may need replacing with his permission of course) GC35P0W

  6. South African finds per month:

For the year June 2012 to May 2013:

(Notice the big MEGA-bump during October last year!)

    For all time:

Interesting that November is even lower than February. I wonder why?

Could it possibly be that it's exam time for students, schools and most professionals. I know my caching takes a hit in November?

  7. Oldest unfound caches

With the news that the world's oldest unfound cache has recently been found (http://blog.geocaching.com/2013/06/worlds-oldest-unfound-geocache-is-found-getting-the-ftf-after-12-years/), I thought it was time to list the oldest unfound South African and African caches.

    South Africa:

There are currently 38 unfound caches (excluding events and archived caches) which are older than a week. The oldest ones are:

    1. GC2V443 Sapphire Pool, published 2011-04-26 (just more than 3 years old)
    2. GC31CK9 Giants Castle Pass, 2011-08-01
    3. GC35P0W Mhlwazini Peak, 2011-10-09
    3. GC35P15 Champagne Castle Ridge Peak, 2011-10-09
    3. GC35P1A Champagne Castle, 2011-10-09
    3. GC35P1M Ships Prow, 2011-10-09

    Africa:

    1. GCC65F Geocache, Nigeria, 2003-01-18 (an impressive 10.4 years old)
    2. GCE0A6 Le gardien de Safar, Algeria, 2003-02-08
    3. GCHC1R Umm Dabbadib, Egypt, 2003-11-27
    4. GCHAYZ The Navigator's Crater, Ghana, 2003-12-07
    5. GCJVAZ TERRY'S CAVE, Zimbabwe, 2004-04-07

Us KZN cachers better get up there. But I doubt Mhlwazini peak is still findable.
