  2. Hi! quote:Originally posted by BaldEd:In trying to log a new cache at Norfolk Island I get a HTTP500;100 Internal Server Error - ASP error. The Technical Error (for support personnel) listed the following: Error Type: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC drivers (0x80040E14)[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver] INSERT statement conflicted with COLUMN FOREIGN KEY constraint 'FK_cache_coordinates_Country'. The conflict occurred in database 'GEO', table 'Country_Old', column 'ID'. /hide/report.asp, line 373 This message is just gobbledegook to me. I have received this message every time I have tried to submit this cache. Help! I got a similar ASP error when I was trying to enter a pretty long log. When I split up the log into two separate logs it worked. Is there a limitation concerning the length of a log? The cache was this one. cheers, Gert Short cuts make long delays.

You can link it directly into your code if it's GPL'ed or you can build command lines and call it via the command line interface if it's not. Gee, thanks. I'll look into that. And no, my code won't be GPL'ed, I guess my boss wouldn't be too happy about that cheers, Gert Short cuts make long delays.
  5. Hi all, I want to develop an application that will need to read a GPS's track log. Trying to avoid re-inventing the wheel I am looking for a *.lib, *.dll or some kind of an SDK that I can you in my C++, C# programs. I have found some libraries that can read the live NMEA-0183 output, but not entire track logs. It should work at least with Garmin units, but being able to use other manufacturers' devices would be cool, too. thanks for any help, Gert Short cuts make long delays.

Hi JohnQ! quote:Originally posted by JohnQ: I can't find any information in the manual on manually inputting Longitude and Latitude coordinates. Can another Summit owner help me out? 12. Hi folks, browsing cache pages I 'stumbled' over this 'cache'. To log it as a 'find' you just need to solve a riddle (which is reported to be from Albert Einstein). You don't have to go anywhere and can do it from home. Probably will find the answer on the internet (but I didn't check) The 'cache' description is only in German (English version on request), but the riddle is one of those where you get clues of the sort Person A lives in a red house. Person B has a dog. The cat-owner does not live in Paris but in a blue house... The question is 'Who owns the fish and what are the coords of the town he's living in?' Just besides mentioning the word coordinates I can't see how this has anything to do with geocaching. But there have been 31 'finds' since Dec 15 I'm not asking for this cache to be denied or archived. I'm just wondering... Gert Short cuts make long delays.

Hi Dru Morgan, I have done this in the description for this cache. Have a look at the HTML source before and after clicking 'Decrypt' Basically you ad every Tag twice not encoded and encrypting. But beware that the 'encrypted' tag does not corrupt your page. Gert Short cuts make long delays.
  14. hmmm, looks like this site is my favorite. I spend (too) much time here and yesterday I paid the 30 bucks for the charter membership, just to find out whether the pocket queries are of any use (look like they are) The reason why I check this site so often is probably that there aren't many caches around here (Austria, Europe) and I have found everything within reach. So I'm unpatiently waiting for new caches to pop up. regards, Gert Short cuts make long delays.

  18. Hi all, I am wondering if the cache maps on non-US countries could be improved. Just have a look at the cache map of Austria as it is now. I'm just picking this country as an example. Well, OK, it's where I live Now on the german geocaching website www.geocaching.de (which is AFAIK not affiliated with geocaching.com in any way) there is this map. It's a raster map, and you can't zoom or pan, but still it gives you a much better idea where the caches really are than the map on this site. Can't something like this be integrated on geocaching.com for non-US countries? What do you think? cheers, Gert Short cuts make long delays. 19. When looking for potention geocachers I 'decided' to make one collegue (wigl) addicted by placing this cache ~150 meters away from his flat. He's a long time GPS-owner and when I told him about geocaching, he immediately liked the idea. While I thought it was an easy cache it took him five attempts to finally find it. What I didn't expect was that another collegue (c_hris) was (after the some failures of wigl) quite eager to find the cache first. I'm not sure if wigl won't go for many more caches, but c_hris definitely will. He's desparately waiting for our company GPS (a vista) which should arrive tomorrow. Gert Short cuts make long delays.
  20. Hey, give this guy a chance. At least he's posting a topic that for sure will not be Markwelled... Gert Short cuts make long delays.
  21. quote:Originally posted by Jamie Z:Regarding the caches you referenced. Wow! What's up with folks logging finds when they didn't find the cache. This quote from the owner of one, is great. I surprised he didn't delete the finds: "And since folks seem to be taking credit for just finding the spot where it was. (Honestly guys, are you really that desperate for finds?) I've decided to let the cacher who replaces the cache or gives me info to turn it into a virtual claim this cache as a find. And just to make sure, no more I looked for it and I think its missing so I found it logs will be accepted." I see even our beloved Anders claims a find for a no-cache. Jamie I emailed that guy, that I would go there and replace it if possible, or give him the info he needs to make it virtual. (But now my business trip to Paris was cancelled). I was also going to visit the other caches and then recommend them to be archived. What about this one? The cachebox seems to be lost, so the owner just 'made it virtual'. At least the Eiffel Tower is close by so there IS something special there (BTW: on the Eiffel Tower is another lost and turned virtual cache) Paris caches don't seem to last... Short cuts make long delays.
  22. quote:Originally posted by Jamie Z: For the first, I was looking through logs of a faraway cache and noticed that someone who had previously found said cache had gone to check it out, but it was missing. Since it was such a remote place, and the owners were probably vacationing when they placed it, I logged a 'Cache Should be Archived' note. So you logged a "should be archived" on a cache where you personally haven't been (i.e haven't tried to find)? Hmmm, I wouldn't have done that. I was recently planning to go to this cache and this cache in Paris, knowing that the caches are gone (read the logs) and then post that the should be archived (also considering the fact that the owner of both caches is marked as 'not active'). But people are still logging finds, because it's easy to find out where the cache *was* (There is still a clip that was holding the cachebox). Here is another 'lost' cache in Paris. quote:Originally posted by Markwell:They may archive it based on the number of recent 'not found' logs and the experience of the person making the 'Should be Archived' log. This sounds as it wouldn't help much anyway if I posted a 'should be archived' because my 'experience' is quite low compared to the rest of you (6 finds, but that's all you can find here ) Cheers, Gert Short cuts make long delays.
  23. ...what happens? Is it just a wink to the cacheowner that the cache is gone/missing or will the admins get notified and they will have a look a the cache & logs and eventually archive it. I don't assume that a "Should be archived" log automatically archives the cache... cheers Gert Short cuts make long delays.
  24. since this cache was not approved, nobody but you can view the cache page... Gert Short cuts make long delays.
