  1. The phones I have check all work. Just no incoming calls. I will look into that voxeo website. But for now I plan on using a prepaid cell phone with youmail.com. I can program recordings to be played only when called from a preselected number.
  2. I am considering placing a themed (Die Hard) multi or puzzle type cache. It starts at a location where you find the next set of coordinates and a phone number. You go to the next stage at which a payphone will be available; you call the number you got from the first stage. Listen to a recording that gives you clues to the next stage. Each stage would have its own recording for that pay phone leading to the next. Any thoughts, suggestions, pros/cons on this?
  3. A GPS. Hit Mark (Enter first waypoint) Hit Mark again. (Enter second waypoint) Tell Mark to quit crying.
  4. The vinyl sticky ones are a little smaller than a standard sheet of paper. They come with the tracking number printed on them, you can not change that.
  5. Anyone planning to create or attend a CITO this May 2-3? Its the offical CITO weekend. There is one about 60 mile North.
  6. http://www.smittyware.com/ppc/cachemate/faq.php#importing I am running a HP iPaq with windows mobile 6 classic. I downloaded cachemate and installed it on my PDA. I transferred a .gpx file to my documents folder and opened cachemate. It will not open ANY files. There is no IMPORT button under the LIST option.
  7. BTW, if you're hiding a cache in a birdhouse I'd hope that means you're using the birdhouse as camo for the actual container and you aren't using the birdhouse as the container. The bird house I am using is the container and the camo. It has been holding up very well so far.
  8. I seen the circles couldn't make much else out of it.
  9. I believe finding the cache the way it's meant to be found is the only way to do it. I can't believe that there are hundreds of thousands of people within 60 miles of the cache and not one could figure it out. Isn't the point of placing to have it found? If someone placed a traditional in your area and no one could find it and all the SBAs would come rolling in, the reviewer asks for it to be checked and the if owner never does, it get archived. Why do puzzle caches become exempt from that rule on the puzzle side of it? If the puzzle doesn't work, it needs to be checked. In theory, I would agree with you, however nobody has ever logged a DNF. Why would anybody want to SBA a cache that nobody has solved and a find has never been attempted. I don't agree with an SBA on a cache that hasn't been solved. As long as it is rated appropriately, I say it's cool. Personally, i think the SBAs are just sour grapes from people that can't get a for an open cache in their bubble. Good luck, I hope you (or somebody) does find it. I agree that it is a 5 star so it is going to be hard. And logging a "Should be archived" is jacked up if you can't solve the puzzle. But I think the guy that did that wasn't getting a response from the cache owner. Maybe Groundspeak should create a log for the puzzle itself should be changed?!
  10. It's all about geocaching! So sounds like a good event. You may feel split between hosting or at least presenting at the event and hosting the geocaching event at the same time. If nothing else you could have the attending geocachers be leaders of the newbies and hide example caches around. The pros could show the new ones how its done. They could all rotate so you can show different types of caches/camo.
  11. tsk, tsk. busted. You guys started it! I was just asking about the reviewer checking it.

  13. So could I place a puzzle cache with a placement date of 1 April 2009 and ask finders to log their find date only as 1 April?
  14. Your doing something better than the people that make barcode reading software then. I sent the pics to three companies. None could read it. They told me it looks like a mix of two types of barcodes. What software were you using?
  15. I started this thread to ask if I should get the reviewer to have the cache owner prove it is solvable. Not to solve it here. But I have looked at all sides of it and can't find anything.
  16. The cache I refer to in this thread has never been found. Only one person has ever claimed to solve it and they live on the East coast. That seems pretty convenient if you ask me. Only a continent keeps him from proving he has solved it.
  17. There is a 5/1 star puzzle in my area that was placed in August of 2007. Everyone has left a note asking for tiny hints and clues. Several have asked for it to be archived. My question is what do you do when a puzzle cache has gone unfound or checked in years? I have asked for help from professionals in the field that the puzzle is coded in and they can't make sense of it. Would it be reasonable to contact my local reviewer and ask him to have the cache owner prove the puzzle can be solved? Not to us, the finders, but just to him. I just want to know the puzzle is solvable, not to be handed the answer. What are your thoughts?
  18. Nevermind, all "ALR"s have been ruled out under the new guidelines.

  21. Strike this thread; all alternate logging requirements have been banned starting a few days ago. There goes that.
  22. What's the point? They've already demonstrated that they could find your cache. If they want to find more caches, they will. Why do you want to make them do something? I would not ask anyone to find another cache to log mine. Just post the GC code of one placed with in a certain area AFTER mine was placed. It would be to promote cache placement in my area and may educate some on how to use the pocket query tools on the website. Example- If some one wanted to find mine they could go right to it find it sign the log and wait until a new cache pops up and then they may log it using that new caches GC code. If no new caches are created for a long time they may place their own cache and use that GC code. I have read all about breeder caches causing a lot of crappy micros and film canisters under lamp post skirts. But isn't there hundreds of people placing crappy caches anyway? It doesn't matter; some people are bad at hiding. So I am not asking for that. When working on a puzzle cache (such as the one I am thinking about placing) one could spend hours over solving a complex code or adjusting the levels of a photo in Photoshop to find coordinates. My puzzle cache could redirect that time and energy toward placing a quality cache. If its too hard for some they have the option of waiting for some one else to make a cache and use that GC code, or not logging it at all.
