  2. Cool. Now..will it have smaller map segments. jus spoke to a garmin dude,,, he is unaware of the release date of V8,,, but he did mention that, yes they are decreasing the size of the map segments....
  3. ....I know that I went through a lot of headaches mucking around with metroguide and stuff... All was releived when I shelled out for city navigator.... only thin gI don't like about it is the giant map segments... oh well maybe it's the excuse to buy the 1gb microSD card I have on order.... .....save yourself a few days of mucking around ... buy city navigator........
  4. I'm an expert at this now,,, I 've gone through the exact same thing... Metro Guide version 4 does not support auto-routing on the GPS unit,,, only on the p.c. If you have version 2,,, then it doesn't even support any auto routing (on the pc or unit).... You need to purchase City navigator.... You're unit is routing just off of the base map...
  5. The way I understand it is .... to create your own custom POI's you create a spreadsheet,,, longitude, latitude and name of POI... Are you abel to categorize ??.. shopping, transportation, fuel, etc... ??
  6. tried another usb port,, works fine now !!!
  7. okay went and purchased city navigator v7 .. for NA.. can't find my 60csx now !!!!
  8. Canada metroguide , enhanced basemap, roads and rec, all version 2
  9. nope,,, mines blue,,, tabs are display, units, position, file location, waypoint, waypoint categories, time and find... no routing preferences anywhere..
  10. nope... upgraded to 6.10.2 and still no routing tab under edit/preferences.... adn still routing with a straight line.....
  11. just spoke to a garmin dude... they don't have an exact date,, except any week now... According to the web site a free upgrade to 8.00 (the new one) will be available to people that purchase 7 on or after the release date of v8 the garmin dude said the time frame for a free upgrade was with 4 weeks of the v8 release.... He seemed kind of wishy washy on the time frame of free upgrade but was pretty clear that it would be available if you phoned Garmin requesting the free upgrade.... After the 4 week time frame it would be a pro rated upgrade fee..
  12. once unti is in USB Storage mode... it stays there until you unplug the USB cable,,, no way out !
  13. funny I have no routing tab under edit/preferences....
  14. I have metro guide canada v4...
  15. don't know,,, don't know,,, don't know... I have an email to Garmin about this....
  16. the routing on your install will probably work ,,, since you have sity select installed on your computer. Me I just have Metro Guide.... and there is no point to point routing...
  17. I was just trying to source out City Navigator with my IT Supplier... She called Garmin and got some resellers name for me... The Garmins salesperson had also mention that v8 of City Navigator North America is due out in 4-6 weeks ....
  18. I am unable to auto point-point route on my p.c. ,,, it always create the straight line route... I see no recalculate or navigate button.. In the route window there is a recalculate route option when you right mouse click,,, but it still does not create a point to point route,, still straight line.... perhaps I should just go buy city navigator ???
  19. Okay,,, nexct question,, On my machine I have world base map, metro guide for canada.... when I try to create a route with Mapsource it just creates a A to B as the crow flies route.... I know someone with world base map, metro guide, and city navigator on his computer... When he tried to plot a route (with metroguide selected) it actually plots the actual route for him.... Now is there something screwy with my install ,, or is it the underlying workings of City navigator working the auto routing even though metroguide mapping is selected in mapsource ???
  20. I just purchased a 60csx,,, (wow, leeps and bounds past my BW legend)... I also purchased Metroguide, unkowingly that this will not provide auto routing,, unelss you are a crow. What is the major difference between City Select and City Navigator ??? I can't seem to figure it out form any product description.... ...thanks again
  21. I will be driving south on a road, I'd ask the unit for a route to a destination that is let's say 5 km due south on this road and then 2 km. east... It'll give me a route that diverts me off this road west and then south down another road. and then 3 o r4 km east.. I have tried the same scenario with different settings on the routing preference... thx....
  22. I have noticed that when I bring up the map question with mapedit,,, that the roads that it isually picks on a route over the most logical ones are the roads it brings up under the *.IMG file.... usually larger roads,,, highways,,, etc..... ..maybe some day they will make a unit hat will learn the users preferred choice of roads..???
  23. not understanding this so good... Does the 60Csx takes preferences over roads vs. obvious roads to take..??? I ask it to plot a route and it tells me to take some obscure route way out of the way and then back again... and yes I have changed the settings,,, fastest,,, shortest,,,etc... I sthere any way to control this (different map set, ??? editing route road priority choice)
