  1. I took my Garmin GPSmap 60CS on a backpacking trip in utah, and it was awesome to have. The barometric altimeter seemed to be working fine, it was plotting the elevation and pressure like it should. But what was wierd, was how on information, like total Total Ascent, and Max Elevation, and other related elevation information would say 0ft the whole entire time. No matter what I did, it would not show anything other then 0ft. Im using version 3.10 and had US TOPO being shown. Any ideas whats goin on?
  2. Just to confirm it, Rino and 60c/cs belt knobs are exactely the same.
  3. Alright, I have a 60CS, my little brother has a 60c. After a backpacking trip in Utah, we were on a drive to Salt Lake City and my brother just turned his gps on and BAM. All of his trails, way points etc. were gone. All of the user data was gone, but the MapSource data was still their. He didn't press any buttons while it was off or while turning it on. Has anyone had this happen to them? He sent a email to Garmin.
  4. I my self have used the positioning feature, while skiing. Its pretty cool, but unless you really need the positioning feature for what you wish to do with it, I would spend the extra money to get a 60c or different unit. The Rino's screen is much to small for Car Navigation, but does have a beautiful square screen. I actually made a Rino review with pictures of my own before I sold it for the 60cs, here is the link. www.geocities.com/etrexrose/GPS Hope it helps ya.
  5. Be careful when people say their GPS gets good reception in "heavy tree cover" Because their are SO many variables besides just how many trees are above you and your GPS. Honestly, Garmin's 60c/cs wont get amazing less than 20ft accuracy under heavy tree cover in most cases, but you CAN count on it being atleast in the 30's and consistent. My Lowrance Ifinder still gets just as good of reception. Anyways, I do believe they made some improvement to the antenna from the rino's to the map 60's, and especially from the Legends. I find it interesting that my Ifinder gets much better reception then the Etrex series although both have Patch antennas. Heh.
  6. So basically your saying, you have a problem, but the problem isn't as bad as we may think because you horse trade . j/k
  7. Also the 60cs's basemap is auto-routable, while the legend's is not.
  8. If you can see lots of points of interest or small insignificant local roads, then you have the maps-make sure you go to the menu and select what maps you want it to show.
  9. Yeah, TWO gpsr's it is. I currently have my home PC and laptop each with City Select, and I have a 60CS and my brother has a 60C. Its all about using the right unit that you unlocked the maps for.
  10. I got a piece of paper like that, and I ordered the Garmin Navigation Kit, (stuff for the 60CS and city select).
  11. I just sent off a email to garmin asking for them to implement this feature, thanks for all of your imput-I included a link to this forum page.
  12. YES OR NO, Would you like Garmin to implement a option to SHOW or HIDE geocaching waypoints from the main waypoint list? YES of course here.
  13. Get Feet Wet, worked great for me.
  14. I guess it would be a OK unit if you get the auto-routing.
  15. The new track thing, just allows you too change the color of the active track, default is "transparent" the other colors REALLY stick out well, and with many colors to choose from, im pretty sure most people will be satisfied.
  16. www.getfeetwet.com is a great place to buy a Garmin 60cs They provide a free extended waranty, Garmin's is one year, they make it two years. And I believe the 60c is around 370 and the cs is 415 or so. If you order by March 25th, and type PREORDER in the discount box, you get a additional 20$ off, lots of shipping options also, I got 2 day air for 15$. Highly Recommended- both the unit and the store.
  17. Use your GPS units to the ground, just protect the front, let it get all scratched up and stuff to a certain extent, thats how they should look- USED.
  18. I know you can turn the Electronic Compass on and off, but is their a way to disable the Barometric Altimeter and only use the GPS itself to calculate the altitude. I want to conserve as much battery power as possible, and having a more accurate altitude while driving in the car isn't needed in my opinion. Anyways, simple question- Can you disaable the Altimeter? If so how?
  19. When I export as GEOCACHE FOUND icon's as a MPS file and open it up in Mapsource, they open up as Amusment Park Icons, not sure why, but it does...
  20. Bluetooth GPSr in the car sounds cool, and may get rid of cord or two, but in reality, you will most likely use the cigarete cable to power it etc. I just sold my Mapopolis software, and HOLUX bluetooth gps, to get the awesome GARMIN 60cs. The autorouting software on the simple 60cs is SOOOO much better then the Mapopolis's voice and beeps. Mapopolis simply says annoying robotic voices, like "Left turn, 300 feet ahead" While the Garmin will beep and draw a arrow showing exactely where you will turn, how long it will take to get their. If your really worried about not taking your eyes off of the road, you will anyways with the voice software of Mapopolis, and I simply do not look at my Garmin until it does a beep, and shows the upcoming turn, then once I know where I will turn, my eyes are back on the road-no harm done.
  21. Basically Garmin owns the Handheld market with the 60c and 60cs, no other company can compete.
  22. I thought the 76 COULD NOT auto route, and the 60 could?
