  1. Spring Gobbler April 25-May 25 in PA Just a reminder, wear the orange.
  2. Thanks for the fast replies and thanks for the PM.
  3. I think a big improvement to the site would be an elimination of the 4 character rule in the forum search feature. Search for Garmin 60c for example.
  4. Traditional caches that say in the first sentence something like: The above coordinates are not to the cache they are to Blah Blah Blah.......
  5. Vinny & Sue Team: I am outraged! Lat me tell you what is bothering me. Lately, while geocaching in MD, PA, DC and WV, I, along with many other cachers whom I know, have witnessed a rather large number of stigmatic cachers -- that is, geocachers who have stigmata, you know, bloody lesions on the body corresponding to the wounds received by Jesus Christ during his crucifixion by non-cachers -- who are openly displaying their stigmata while geocaching. I find this repulsive, not only because these people are dripping blood all over the trails and all over the cache containers, but also because these people are merely egotistical show-offs, and, in doing so, they are making those of us who are not stigmatics feel inadequate, like there is something wrong with us just because we are not victim souls who were chosen to suffer for God. Their act of displaying their stigmata openly is nothing more than one-upmanship! I am outraged! I am outraged! (Did I say that already?) I demand that stigmatic geoachers immediately hide all of their bloody stigmatic lesions while geocaching, and that they stop broadcasting the fact that they are stigmatic. I want to hear in this thread from other geocachers who agree with me! I will not allow anyone who disagrees with my demands to post in this thread, and, if anyone does try to post disagreeing or contrary posts in this thread, their homes will be infested by locusts and they will come down with the plague within one year of their offense. Thank you for doing the needful. . So I guess this thread is real? Slam religion and protect the bats?
  6. I think in the manufacturing of meth someone is needed to be near by at all times.
  7. Just a reminder must countries in that part of the world are bass ackward and only deserve the the BEST GPS guided packages.
  8. In my area (SWPA in the fayettecong area which is FayetteNam) I haven't stumbled across any PMO caches. I used to be a free member (I said member ) but I moved on to Premium membership for the benefits of PQ's and route queries. PMO caches are what they are. Seriously, it's less then $3 a month; if your not willing to pay that maybe you should move on to another hobby. They're also MANY caches not even listed on Geocaching.com
  9. "It's only a quarter mile away" "This way" I was going to fix this double post when I realized that was the way it is. Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
  10. I was looking for GCZJ67 which is in a public park near some baseball fields. About 30 seconds after getting out of my car, another car rolls up and two kids and their dad pop out. He says to me "They've been talking about redoing the road here; you an engineer?" I said No. He said "surveyor?" I said "No, I use my GPS(I held it up so he could see it) to find boxes in the woods." I specifically avoided saying boxes of toys. He quickly turned around and yelled "Come on boys,It's too muddy up here" and they left.
  11. I went caching in a dead end at a public park near my job. Shortly after leaving my car I spotted a male individual who seemed to be following me. I resumed my journey and after getting approx. 30 to 40 feet into the woods I looked back and saw that he was at the woodline and had covered a distance of 100 feet to my to my 30 to 40 feet. I quickened my pace to GZ 250 feet down the hill and made a wide loop back to my car. I didn't see him so I'm not sure if he was still in the woods or turned around and left the area. For me this was not a scary moment; I was prepared to protect myself and I luckily saw the threat. I bring this up as a warning to fellow cachers to know their surroundings and be prepared. BTW I didn't find the cache and did not log a DNF due to the situation.
  12. This hint: After placing the cache, I tried to find it myself (with GPS only) by hiking from the trail head. The GPS tended to guide me off the trail too soon, since the trail itself is winding. Unless you are enjoying the bushwhacking, stay on the trail until the trail goes down AND you see big rocks on your right side. The stash is around 100 feet to the trail and hiden under the biggest rock. The rock, which hides the stash, also has a 'sheltering' structure. was a pain in the butt to decrypt in the field and did not really help. If a useless hint is a few words; I don't think it's a problem. It keeps you looking. Perhaps too many cachers automatically decrypt and print the hints just so they can get a smiley.
  13. Tilley T4 with insectshield (it works) and a Tilley LTM6 "AIRFLO". Tilley makes the best hats in the world. The foam in the top of the hat has saved me from alot of pain geocaching from many over head obstacles.
  14. The cache area was down in a low spot with low hills on either side. The fences were on top of retaining walls, so even if I wanted to scale them it would be about 20' of retaining wall then 10' of fence on top of that. I have a concealed carry license that would be negatively impacted by arrest or involvement in illegal activities. This makes me unusally averse to breaking the law, even if the infractions appear to be trivial. It also reminds me that sometimes fence-jumpers get shot in Texas. I would prefer to remain unventilated. Edited to add: I have in fact tangled with razorwire during my Army enlistment, and have the scars on my arms and chest to show for it. I actively avoid concertina nowadays. Thanks for the explanation. PA has a similar issue with CCW and trespassing. I meant no offense; the visualization I had was a guy that couldn't or wouldn't climb a 5 foot fence in a public place(ball field, park) Thank you for your service.
  15. I will not move a TB if I cannot get it closer to its goal (laminated goal attached to TB helps) or if I know I will not find a geocache within a week or 2.
  16. Yes the 60 series will do that (as will many/most/all?) of the other Garmin handhelds. The 60c_x might be overkill, but I certainly do love mine. The possibility of getting in trouble even with a GPS is real. One time I walked way into a wooded area adjacent to some business parks. I found the cache after substantial crawling around in underbrush. I had my parking spot waypointed but couldn't "get back there from here" as the crow flies because of fences around the business park. I spent about 15mins trying some different approaches and started to feel worried and foolish. I mean, I knew EXACTLY where my car was parked and couldn't get to it. So i used the trackback to get me about 100m back down the trail where everything started looking familiar again. I was much relieved. Of course, this kind of thing will only save you if: * the gps has signal under the canopy (this dictates having something with a High Sensitivity receiver like the 60-series or the new H models, etc) ; and, * you have the tracks turned on (IIRC) Not to be a smart@-- but were the fences 20 foot tall with razor ribbon or a fence you did not want to cross due to trespassing issues? If you want to keep using the NUVI pick up a cheap handheld unit just to keep a tracklog. If you plan on going into dense or disorienting woods; always make sure you mark your start point and pay attention to your surroundings.
  17. This community is one of the best if not the best I've found on the net. Have a question? Ask. Have a need to vent? Keep it clean and explain in the post (some of these !!!! and these . I've been to forums where i ask (for example) what are some thoughts about a CB Radio, a firearm, radio scanner ETC. and have had everything from myself to my family insulted just for posting a question. This is a great place.
  18. Just my 2 cents. I do not take a dog caching, but maybe a good idea would be to take a small can of pepper spray(if legal) especially if you tie her/him up and leave her/him alone. just in case your dog encounters a wild animal or stray dog. It shouldn't permanently harm your dog and could quickly break up a situation that could lead to serious injury or worse to your pet or yourself. Just my 2 cents.
  19. Thanks! I think I'll go with the 60CSX, accuracy and durability are my main priorities not paperless caching. My Legend has been through alot without failing and I was wondering if the 60CSX was just a flashy GPS or was worth the extra $. Thanks again.
  20. I'm currently using a Garmin Legend HCX and am very happy with it. I'm going to be passing it on to a family member and was wondering if the Garmin 60CSx is a good upgrade or should I just get another legend HCX. From what I have read I do not want a Delorme or at this time an Oregon or Colorado.
  21. It works. just got my useless PSP to go paperless using GSAK. Assuming you have already mastered PQ's and have GSAK up and running you can use GSAK to output all your caches as HTML files. What it actually generates is a unique page for each cache you choose to output, plus several index pages that allow you to easily navigate all those caches. 1. Tweak GSAK to display your choosen caches and from the menu choose File -> Export -> HTML Files. 2. Set a unique directory to output the "mess" to and choose the indices to generate. (I just generate by name and code which means the main page you load gives you those two options to find the cache page from the main index page.) 3. You will end up with is a directory full of htm files and image files. Copy the entire directory into another unique directory on your psp. (I make a "Caches" directory in the existing "PSP" directory for simplicity.) 4. After all that is transfered into your psp just start your internet browser and type in the following: file:/psp/caches/index.htm. This will pull up the main index file and give you your choice of indices to find your desired cache. I had to use file:/psp/caches/_1index.htm
