  1. Well, it looks like the story got enough attention that we will probably be doing a follow up in the spring. I'll try to plan a real adventure this time. Hopefully we can go after a high difficulty, high terrain, high reward cache. I'll be sure to include some of the things suggested here. CITO, GPS precision, quality over quantity, etc...
  2. Thank you Tricia. I don't know why I expect this forum to be any different than others. I've got to learn to just ignore the negative. Again, I didn't make the video. I talked for an hour straight about every aspect of caching that came to mind. They only used what they wanted to.
  3. That is my cache, placed with permission of the bank manager. Permission or not, no one would ever have messed with it if they didn't see a cacher messing with it first. I was just stating the facts. And I'm married.
  4. Well, the print version came out today and it's pretty good. They used a lot more of the info I gave them and did a little research as well. They made it clear that there's more to caching than driving around town. To the folks who are complaining: I'm very sorry that this one segment is not all things to all people. I only had an hour to take this young lady (dressed in a skirt) caching. I made the most that I could of it. I tried to be a good representative of the hobby. Sorry I let you down. When your story comes out, I'm sure it will be better.
  5. Ha! You're right about that, but again, they used the pieces of our conversation that they wanted to. I didn't get a say in the editorial process.
  6. Sheesh... That's a lot of complaints for one post. I told them in very eloquent terms about the history of caching starting at May 2nd, 2000 but they didn't use any of that conversation. I didn't make the video. I've never used anything but an iPhone for caching and I would prefer for people to know that they can get started without having to buy an expensive piece of unnecessary gear. What does it say on the homepage of GC.com? Treasure Hunt... That's because it helps people to understand what we do. We only had an hour to look for caches. That limited the ones we could find. I wanted to show variety. I can not control the weather. Most of the caches were ones I placed. I'm sure your talk was moving. I just took a couple of people out and showed them that caching is fun. It will probably double or triple the caching community in my area. No regrets.
  7. They got ahold of me because I mentioned caching on twitter and one of their reporters follows me. So she must have passed the idea along to the young lady who wanted to do the story. Why don't you contact your local papers and stations and plant the idea for a caching story? In my experience, they are usually very receptive to fun ideas with mass appeal.
  8. Sounds like some misplaced magnets... The cool thing about them is that you can stick them in places that will keep them DRY! Anyway, I really do enjoy magnetic caches. We've got some really creative ones around here.
  9. She wanted to highlight a fun, free activity that families can do locally. They've been talking to me about doing this piece since the 1st of the year and we finally got around to it. I thought it came out really well and I enjoyed the opportunity to increase the scene in my area.
  10. Instead of letting her follow me around caching, I wanted to let her find some caches for herself. We had a great time and both the reporter and her cameraman fell in love and are now hooked on caching themselves.
  11. Yup. I sent an email to the appropriate address but I just activated it this afternoon, so it might take a few days. Does anyone know an easy/easier way to "visit" a trackable into every cache you've found?... I don't have any PC's so I can't use GSAK.
  12. Yes, it's trackable. I just cropped out the code.
  13. I've perused a lot of TB tattoos and never ran across my favorite pic of Signal so I decided to use it myself. Here's my new Long Frog Signal tattoo.
  14. I've been wondering if there is a way to tell which caches your friends have found. When planning a trip with a caching partner, it would be nice to be able to see their finds on the map so you don't waste their time getting finds that aren't mutual.
  15. I'm not sure what you're talking about. I'm using iPhone 5 with iOS 6.0.1 and the Geocaching app uses Google maps just fine and has been since I started using it. I use the Google Satellite map every day. Check the settings on the app and see what map type yours is set to. The only choices my app offers is Google maps, and OpenStreetMap.
  16. Try this Ruby: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=303746&st=0&p=5148451&fromsearch=1entry5148451
  17. The best multi I've seen is at a rest stop. It's a 4 stage that starts with getting info from a plaque, then has two very clever, and challenging hides before finding an ammo can. Took me about a half hour or 45 minutes, but I wasn't in any hurry to get home. My take on it is that the people who have time will really appreciate a good challenge. The ones who don't will skip it. Even if it's only found a quarter of the times that the two traditional's are, some will still go for it.
  18. Not sure how I can be any clearer sir.
  19. Your only failure is in reading comprehension. I wasn't talking to you or anyone else. I was talking about my own personality flaw...
  20. Who said the cache isn't there? The OP is about "hard to find" caches. I must not be expressing myself properly. I don't cache for any reason except my own personal enjoyment. I enjoy the challenge of the hunt. I have a hard time admitting when I am unable to make the find, so I will keep coming back until I find it instead of logging the DNF. Logging a DNF feels like a little badge of shame, but I've been doing it anyway because I know it is helpful to the CO and other cachers. That was the point of my first post.
  21. I'm intrigued by this feeling. I'm not trying to call you out or embarrass, but can you explain to me the "it hurts my pride" thing? If you see the bolded section, it explains it. I don't quit anything I start, so to attempt a cache and walk away without finding it is like giving up or quitting. I'll keep looking and looking, not for the smilie face or for the numbers, but as a matter of pride.
  22. It hurts my pride, but I'm trying to be diligent about logging my DNF's as soon as I walk away the first time. I don't really care about statistics, but I hate to admit failure.
