Aha… but I am after quality not quantity. I would rather find 1 or 2 really neat caches than 13 quick ones. I like both hard-to-get and drive-up-and-log-it type caches but a few are really outstanding, if a rating system let users mark their personal top 10% the cumulative results could be very useful “the best” caches would stand out while no ones feelings would be hurt because there would be no negative rating.

The problem with logs is that there are so many caches I don't have time to read all of the logs much less visit every cache when I go on a road trip. I want a quick and easy way to identify the best of the best. I really like the idea to let people only pick favorite caches so there would be no negative rating (such as one positive vote for every 10 caches found) That way no one will get their feelings hurt but if a lot of people vote for one cache I will at least read the logs and if it looks like a good one I can go find it.

If there were enough interest, then maybe I will add the field. Any thoughts? I think it would be cool if you had both a field for the GPS coordinates and a log book so people can write about their experience.
  5. quote:My advice is to put the techno stuff away for a while and follow your own senses when you're hungry. Good point, my grandpa was a truck driver, he said to get a good lunch go to the county seat and eat a the restaurant closet to the court house. I have also heard that if you want a good supper in the south ask a greasy mechanic where to recommend a bar-B-Q joint. I do think it would be cool if there were a georestaurant.com website.

Jeremy So what happened to the rating idea? I really like the idea to let people only pick favorite caches so there would be no negative rating (such as one positive vote for every 10 caches found)

    Lame cache

As I am relativity new to this discussion board I did not know you could search the board. I also did not know any admins' name other than Jeremy. I did not put words into anyone’s mouth; I just made an assumption and stated it as an assumption (Forming a theory is the 1st part of the scientific process) Thank you Wendy for helping me test (and fail) the first part of my theory but the second part of my theory holds for now because we do not have a ranking system yet.
  8. I like that geocacheing has rules to prevent commercial cache sites but when I road trip to geocache outside my back yard I usually end up hungry and end up eating at chain restaurants. Does anyone know if there are any web sites that list independent restaurants with their gps coordinates?

    Lame cache

Thanks for all the links Leprechauns, I don't have time to read them all do you mind just ranking them for me Seriously I did scan the provided links but did not see where the geocaching.com owner(s) addressed the issue. I will assume that it is hard to program or they just think it is a bad idea and we will never get ranking.

    Lame cache

The following thread is closed so I am posting this here: http://opentopic.Groundspeak.com/0/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=1750973553&f=3350930104&m=9160913435 I see that several people are in favor of a rating system to rank caches. Why can't we have one? Is it hard to program or does Jeremy just think it is a bad idea? Some have posted that they think a ranking system for caches is a bad idea but I don't understand why; if you don't like a ranking system don't use it. Slashdot (www.slashdot.org) uses a ranking system that allows users to set the threshold at -1 so all can be seen. The even allow logged in users to hide rankings if they desire. Would it be possible to add "rate this cache" to geocaching.com cache listings?
  11. I have an idea for a Locationless Cache but I want to make sure no one else is doing it how do I search for other Locationless Caches?
  12. Just bought a Meridian, I currently use MapSend and EasyGPS what other software do you recommend?
