  1. ...then it's probably too easy (meaning, that some geomuggle will likely find it). I think a re-hide would be in order. --Marky
  2. Pocket queries are great. I have one that fires off once a week, for the 150 geocaches closest to my home. The nice thing here is that I can tell it to ignore caches I've already found (and ignore virtual caches). So, once a week, I clear all the waypoints off my GPS, then I download the latest batch. I also update the mobipocket reader file on my palm. Where ever I go near my house, I can just do a goto on my GPS and see what geocaches are near my current location that I haven't found.
  3. There are only Micro and Standard (well, and Other) that seem to apply to most physical caches. I have no problems with caches of varying sizes. I always take items of various sizes with me. If I place a cache of the 3" tub variety, I describe it as such in the long description and say that only small items such as superballs and the like will fit. Seems like that is all that is needed. --Marky

  5. I've been very happy with them so far. At Fry's Electronics I get 4 packs of AA 1800ma-hr for $9.99. I have 8 total, and it's very easy to just pop the 'used' ones in charger at the end of a day of caching. Actually, I haven't gone through a pair yet. When I clip my GPS into the windshield mounted holder, it is powered externally, so it's only my trail time that I have to worry about, and I generally am on the trail less than 8 hours a day (generally). (My GPS is a magellan meridian platinum)
  6. My wife enjoys caching as much, if not more, than I do, so I have a built in partner. Sometimes I'm just way luckier than I deserve.

  8. Here's our log. Scroll up from this log to see the rest. It was quite an adventure for us. Apparently, my math sucks without a calculator, because all of my mistakes were math related. I got all of the themed clues correct. --Marky P.S. For those in the area, this is a must do Multi-cache, but it's a tough one to do in one day. The **** difficulty is dead on.

  10. Yes! The bug was rescued by jck and was placed into Budde 2. All you smashed penny enthusiasts and now grab the bug and do some trading! --Marky & Joani

  12. that the geocacher that placed the cache has only one find, that being the cache in question. Seems odd.
  13. Just a few days too late. Better too many rescuers than not enough, I say. --Marky
  14. There are a handful of caches in Almaden Quicksilver park that required a decent hike in. Be sure to pop in to the free museum if you're down that way, lots of neat quicksilver mining info. Also, don't forget the two caches in Sierra Azul Open Space (4.1 miles to the top, all uphill, from the Kennedy Road trailhead).
  15. After reading about Pepper's travel bug rescue from the Superman cache, it made me think of our recent rescue of the Tennis Anyone? travel bug, that had been sitting up in the Sierra Azul Bike Parts cache placed by pedalman since MAY! Everyone that enjoys a good hike (or a good mountain bike trail) should give this cache a try. The four stars is because the elevation gain is about 2000 feet over 4 miles. We chose the Kennedy Road trailhead because Pedaler recently placed Sierra Azul "Relief" Spot half way up on this trail. If you decide to do these, pick a clear day if possible. You will be rewarded with some amazing views of the valley from 2600ft up. Pedaler's cache has the trailhead coords, which was nice. Note to hikers: weekdays might be better than weekends as this is a popular mountain bike trail and they can get going pretty fast. We encountered only two mountain bikers on our hike up and back down (2 hours up, 2 hours down). We are planning our first cache somewhere else in Sierra Azul... --Marky

  17. Here's a picture with the access cover closed. Here's another with the access cover open. You can see the metal rod in this picture.
  18. The no log book thing has me thinking that where he left it wasn't the *real* cache at all. Maybe muttdog can tell one of you precice directions to where he actually left it (since it sounds now like there is a chance that it's not at the actual cache).

  20. I feared when I saw the drop, that something bad might happen to him. How sad. I have no idea why someone thought it would be okay to leave a travel bug *outside* a cache (a micro-cache, no less). Oh well, we learn by our mistakes. --Marky

  22. My Mysterious Smashed Penny Trader travel bug was left in McKena's B-Day Cache (Birds Eye View II) , which is a micro-cache in the Houston area. I don't feel great about the travel bug sitting *outside* the cache. Could someone rescue it and put it in a normal sized cache? (Any normal sized cache anywhere would be fine.) The travel bug told me that he is willing to *give* you a smashed penny from his collection, if you have none to trade, if you help him find a cache he can fit in. 24. Coolest: A pen, with a mini compass on a red strap (that matches my backpack), attached to a caribeener. Every geocacher needs a pen and a compass now and then. Later the same day, in a different cache, my wife got a green one too. Lamest: wet stickers (which are lamer than dry stickers).
