  1. I bought a Garmin etrex Legend Cx for my first unit. I kind of wished I would have bucked up for the more accurate 60CSx, but the Legend is a great unit. For what it is worth, I bought my unit and mapping software from gpsnow.com - they were very helpful on the phone and have great prices. Now... is it time for me to upgrade?
  2. I have a Garmin Legend Cx and just bought a 512MB micro card for it. I can now store multiple maps which is awesome, except... 1. How can you switch between maps on the GPS? 2. Can I overlay a topo and a city navigator so that I get the roads and the topo lines at the same time?
  3. You can install all the discs onto your hard drive and then they are always available. I am sure this is okay as I got the instructions directly from Garmin. To image the files to your hard drive, please follow the steps below: 1. Make a new folder on your hard drive, i.e. c:\ustopo, as follows: a. Double click on "My Computer" and double click on the drive with (C:). b. Right click in blank white space, select "New", and click on "Folder". c. Name the folder "USTopo" or something else that you will remember and push "Enter" on the keyboard. 2. Double click on the folder to open it and leave the blank window off to the side. 3. With US Topo-West (CD 1) in your CD-ROM drive, go into My Computer, right-click on the CD-ROM drive containing the US Topo disk, and click on "Explore". This will display all the files on the CD-ROM. 4. Click on the "Edit" menu and click "Select All". Right-click on any highlighted icon and click on "Copy". 5. Right-click in the empty folder you just created in the blank window area and click "Paste". This will transfer all the files from the CD to the hard drive. 6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 with the other CDs. Make sure you copy them to the same file folder and do not subdivide the folder for each disk. 7. Once you are finished downloading, you will turn to the folder you created on the hard drive and look for the icon entitled "setup.exe". 8. Double click on "setup.exe" and install the program right from your hard drive. You would no longer need the CDs.
  4. I live in Boulder County, CO and just got a Garmin Legend CX. When I bought it I got Garmin Mapsource US Topo software. This software is great for off road navigating, but in town it isn't so great. This brings up two questions... 1. Which "street" software is a good choice? 2. What do people do when they geocache in-town? I like the topo software when I'm in parks but it makes it difficult getting there since the street map that came with the GPS only has the major roads.
  5. Thanks for the quick answers everyone! I turned on my unit this morning and the cache (marked as not found) was in the geocache folder. Then I checked my way points folder and it was in there too, along with three Garmin waypoints (Garmin, Garimin Europe and Garmin Taiwan).
  6. I just got a Garmin eTrex Legend Cx and downloaded the first geocache loc file to it. It shows up on my GPS as a waypoint with a geocache icon, but doesn't show up in the geocache list. How can I get it there?
