  1. I still haven't decided what GPSr I'm going to buy but when I do I'll be in touch. You might want to post it to versiontracker.com if you need more testers.
  2. Here is an response I received to my query about using National Geographic's Topo! maps with a Magellan Sportrak pro. Thank you for your email. At this time, the new Magellan SportTrak Series of GPS receivers are not supported. Depending on the number of requests we receive, we may add them to our list of supported GPS receivers. Please let us know if you have any further questions or comments and thanks for your support. Jodi Hill Customer Service Representative If you would like to see National Geographic Topo! support for the Magellan Sportrak GPSR's, please use this form to let them know. Thanks
  3. This is excellent news. I'm a geocaching.com lurker and although I don't own a GPS unit right now I think it's fantastic to see people working on native OS X GPS software. Good luck and please keep us updated on your progress. Maybe Steve will be announcing an iGPS at Macworld next week. 20GB drive, MP3 player, all the latest and greatest GPS features, handwriting recognition, wireless internet access for accessing geocaching.com while you're on a hunt, about the size of an etrex and much, much more.

  5. Will the SporTrak work with any mapping software besides the Magellan mapsend topo? After hearing about how bad mapsend is for hiking in wilderness areas I was hoping to go with something like the National Geographic topo map instead. I really don't care much about roads but I do want trails to be listed and in the right places. The problem is that NG topo doesn't list the SporTrak as a compatible GPS unit on their support page. There was one other map program, techmaps or something like that and it also did not list the SporTrak as a compatible unit. Am I stuck with mapsend since nothing else works with the SporTrak?
  6. It's interesting how conflicting the views seem to be about mapsend. It seems like the consensus is that it's far from perfect but then so are all the other products. After reading the reviews at amazon.com, it would seem that mapsend is a big waste of money. I don't care as much about streets as I do hiking trails and wilderness areas in the pacific NW. After reading about other products on these boards I got the impression that the National Geographic Topo maps would be the way to go but according to their web site they won't work with my Magellan Sportrak Pro. Is this correct or has topo.com just not updated their supported GPS page?
