  1. Nifty. Speaking of paperless you should see my Geocaching bag. The side pocket is bursting with printouts. My cats think it's great to make confetti out of.
  2. Our 2 year old Chow mix Misty found the cache before we did on her 2nd outing. We had the same thought you do. We haven't tried any formal training. I would think especially the scent of rubber containers would stand out in the woods.
  3. We found our largest cache yesterday at The Big X Marks the SpotI think it is the same type of rocket ammo can Dessert Viking mentioned (more like a trunk). Not as big as the tupperware bin kennethpruett mentioned but it was still about 10X bigger than a .50 cal ammo can.
  4. Check out the GPS Garage Sale forum. Many cachers will sell cheap there when they trade up for a better unit. You can also ask questions about specific models in the GPS Unit and Software forum...
  5. Very good advice, Welch! Also, make sure you enter the number correctly. I made the mistake of switching 2 digits and got an unactivated bug once too

  7. I don't think states have their own domains...only countries...( .de, .au, .jp)
  8. They still use Pine at Syracuse University (as of 2000) for email...used Gopher, Archie, and Veronica in a VAX cluster at NYU in '93.
  9. Well, Team KKF2A is basically 25 across the board since we all met in college...definitly true of the MA branch of the team (my wife and I) Our cats Earl and Aria are 4 and 3. (Sept. 5th, Cat Lover's Cache)

  11. I echo Night Stalker's advise. I tagged along with a college bud on my first hunt and he really gave me points about the GPS (like don't mind the arrow as long as the distance is going down, etc) I tried to plan a cache hunt by reading the whole history of logs for the cache and using the clue. And like Night Stalker said..try the easy rated ones 1/1 and work up to a higher rating. Oh...and from my experience...watch the daylight and be prepared (esp. now as fall settles in). I would also encourage you to download and use easyGPS...works great with my Garmin eMap
  12. I agree with Couch Potato..the MapSource gives you much more detail (on my eMap anyway) I can zoom in and get all the street names and even exit numbers on highways, etc. I also have 2 mem chips so I can swap if I'm in different areas.

  14. I have AA Energizer NiMH set that works great. It came in a pack of 8 with the recharger at Sam's Club for a really good price. I charge the spares and swap them between my digicam and my eMap. Never had a problem yet. I used to have Raovacs for flashlights and electronic remotes but eventually they died and stopped charging...
  15. Sounds good to me. Ironically, my wife and I logged our first cache last night with Dekaner from central NY. He led us with his GPSrs. Can't wait to go out on our own. I have verified PayPal and BidPay if that helps. Lemme know.
