  1. I'll be moving to the SLC area from Wisconsin in March. Where I live in Wisconsin there are a couple groups that will meet for coffee every week and then possibly head out to find a few caches. Are there any geocacher gatherings like this in SLC?
  2. Trend Micro has flagged gsak.net as a dangerous web site that "contains malicious software or could defraud visitors." If you click on the link and type in gsak.net you can leave feedback to get it taken off the dangerous list.
  3. Be extra careful with the rubber seal because they are not available as a replacement part but Garmin will refurbish the unit for a flat $79.
  4. I have a notification set up and it seems to be running very well. I have noticed that ther is no option to limit the notifications to only those caches I have not found. I have gotten notifications of maintenence or re-enabling of caches and had to search to make sure I had already found it. How about adding a "That I have not found" feature to the notifications. Thanks,
  5. Found the answer!!!! File Manager It's a patch fo rsome of the older models like mine to help it use the larger SD Cards. I can now remove and re-install the SD Card and see the cache information. Now I wonder if I can install the files directly onto the card from the PC without having to use the HotSynch.
  6. Cachemate 4.1.2 Palm M505 Palm OS 4.0 1GB SD Card I have formatted the SD card with the palm so it has the corect directory structure and I am able to use cachemate without a problem. I have a few other SD cards that I would like to be able to switch between, but when I remove the SD Card with the CacheMate files and then put it back in the decription and all of the other data is no longer available even if I rescan the card. Is there some magic way to remove and insert the SD card or is there some software that I need to install on the SD Card? When I insert the SD card I get a message about the default application not being found on the card. Any ideas? Thanks
  7. You can delete all of the waypoints or groups of waypoints from the menu on the waypoint screen.
  8. This has been discussed on severla other threads here. Download the latest firmware from the Garmin website. Since I did that and put in a fresh set of batteries I have had no problems.
  9. Just don't forget to adjust your position on the map when you get there. The manual does recommend this when you have moved more than 2000 miles from your previous location. I can't remember how to do it but it is in the manual. Had to do that on my recent trip to Maui and everything ran without a problem.
  10. I do the same thing, go to each page and download the file. I am just completing a macro for GSAK the uses GPSBABEL to combine all files into a .GPX and then automatically loads it into GSAK. So far it is working very well. I just have to complete some cleanup of the input files and it should be ready to publish. I may be looking at a premium membership later to get more information on the caches.
  11. At least I can get my GSAK database to match my banner now. Thanks for the help. Gary
  12. There is a difference in the found count between my found list and the view my profile banner. The banner says that I have found 104, but the when I look at My geocaching logs filtered by Found It I get a count of only 103. My GSAK database matches the Found It list so I am pretty sure there is a problem with the banner. I did a little bit more digging and think that the banner is also counting events that have been attended since I have only logged one event and it does not show up on the Found It list. Shouldn't the banner match the Found It list? Thanks, Gary
  13. I also have a little trouble connecting my legend but it is more of a problem with the Data cable than the USB converter. I have to wiggle the cable where it slides into the GPS several times before it will transfer data.
  14. Excel does a wonderful job but you need to have the analysis pack checked in the add-ins. Use the function DEC2HEX().
  15. Thanks for the confirmation. I will try to be a little more patient when searching for caches. gkrone
  16. I have a Garmin eTrex legend (Blue) that I am having a little problem with as far as accuracy. The unit has reported that I have been within a couple feet of a cache location but the accuracy of the unit keeps jumping up and down sometimes from 10 feet to 30 feet. Last night while looking for a cache I was within 10 feet at the closest but the accuracy reported by the unit was 25 feet. Is this just because it has a weak antennae or is a cheaper unit? I have recently replaced the batteries so it can't be a lack of power. Thanks, gkrone
  17. We are having a similar problem with ours. It would just shut down while we were on the trail. We had a small battery leak and it seemed to work a little better after new batteries and cleaning the contacts with some rubbing alcohol. It did it again this weekend when ai put it on the clip board face down. Garmin wants $99 to take a look and fix. Seems a little expensive for a unit that only cost us about $150. We will continue to use it until it really becomes a PITA them probably just get a more powerful unit.
  18. I am experimenting in .net and would like to load the LOC file into a datagrid. Since the LOC file is nothing but an XML file I can use an XmlDataDocument to read the file. An XSD to describe the file makes the loading of the data as well as the display a total of about 6 lines of code: xdoc = new XmlDataDocument(); xdoc.DataSet.ReadXmlSchema("myexample.xsd"); xdoc.Load(isFile); LocationDataGrid.DataSource = xdoc.DataSet; LocationDataGrid.DataMember = "waypoint"; LocationDataGrid.Refresh(); Since I am basically using this as a learning tool and am not that familiar with XSD I am having trouble with the name and coord elements of the XML. I can't quite figure out how to get the id, lat and lon attributes to be considered as part of the data for those elements. If I can't figure out the XSD then I will have to go back to parsing the XML file into a DataSet programmatically. I have done this before, but it can be tedious. Thanks,
  19. Does anyone have an xsd file that can be used with the loc files? The problem I am having is getting the cache id, "GCXXX" out of the id attribute in the name element. I have the same type of problem getting the lat and lon attributes out of the coord element. Thanks,
  20. I found a USB to Serial adaptor on amazon.com for about $5 that I am using to connect to the serial port of my Garmin eTrex and my Glucose monitor. It was almost a plug and play. It came with drivers and it is working great under XP Pro
