  1. Just being long doesn't make a cache (or a walk) good or memorable. It's the quality of the route that counts.
  2. I'm very impressed with the graphics. Great job.
  3. 22 miles is our longest walk for a single cache. It has a camoflaged micro at the end and is rated D3/T4. We own one in the Black Mountains that's about 13 miles.
  4. Screen shot is definitely the way to go. Attaching an .xls file breaks guidelines anyway.
  5. You don't even have to be alive. We met Eeyore Tulip last weekend.
  6. I know what the OP is saying, but as others have said, this isn't the solution. In the UK we have Cacher of the Month (I'm sure you have something similar), which awards points, for finds, hides, TB's moved etc. It's not perfect, but it's just for a laugh and a bit of friendly competition.
  7. I don't think there have been 10 caches placed within 20 minutes of us (apart from our own) since we started caching over 2 years ago. We just have to travel.
  8. Cachemate requires Palm 3.0 or later, so pretty much any Palm will do the job. I often find more than 5 logs very useful. I only read them when I'm really stuck though. Often there's a clue in there somewhere or even alternative coordinates sometimes. Paperless Palm Guide
  9. These girls were a bit keen on Saturday as they came running across the field bellowing and butting each other, but we had the luxury of a ditch and a fence between us.
  10. I'm not sure Janice. You're a bit out of our way. Seriously though, no problem at all.
  11. Great idea H & C. It looks like our 2 year tally of 3 events could be doubled in a 3 week period.
  12. I use the Petzl MYO-5 Belt. Don't know how it holds up to the new generation, but it's very impressive. The Xenon lamp is very useful in tunnels, for sighting stiles at the other end of a field and for firetacks too. 4 batteries sit in your pocket rather than you head and last forever. Mine died at Christmas (just over a year old) and I was pleased to find the 3 year warranty was honoured immediately, so I won't be changing any time soon.
  13. I use PLiska Image Resizer. I'm sure these image resizers are much of a muchness, as it's a very simple process (and therefore almost always free). Just drag and drop. Much simpler than any image editing app.
  14. If you look in Memory Map (or Google Earth) they tend to stick out as a line of close proximity caches. So do canals too.
  15. Many thanks for all your hard work and good luck in the future. Hopefully we'll see you down this way soon. We look forward to more HHH caches.
  16. Ahhh, the non-caching partner. You just have to bite your lip some times.
  17. Having not watched one of my favourite films for a few years, I saw the end of The Shawshank Redemption in a whole new light tonight. When Red goes off to find the hidden cache, under a pile of rocks next to a lone tree, it certainly rang some bells. Despite having seen it countless times, when he opened the plastic bag, whilst looking around for muggles, I almost expected him to pull out a log book and sign it. Are there any films that remind you of geocaching?
  18. The two links are defined independantly within GSAK. The link used when you double click a cache in GSAK is defined in Tools->Options HTML tab. Look for Geocaching.com entry. It won't have the &decrpyt=y. The link created for Memory Map is user defined in your export. This may well be a macro, but it is something you have defined, whether you've used someone else's macro or done it yourself, so it is not an issue with GSAK. This export defines how the link within Memory Map should work. In your case it tells MM to pass the browser a link with the decrypt parameter. We have proved this is nothing to do with Memory Map by cutting the link above from the Linked File and pasting it into a browser. This causes the same issue. Memory Map is only doing what the GSAK user defined export is telling it to do. If you don't know how to edit your export process then you need to seek support from where ever you got it. Again, the best route would be to get GC.com to fix the root cause. Otherwise you're fixing the symptoms, not the cause.
  19. Petrol (or gas) in the UK is about £1.10 / litre. That's $10/gallon, so we would consider your prices to be incredibly cheap. We have to travel (as we did yesterday) a round trip of 100 miles for a days caching. Fortunately we like to park up and spend the day walking, but otherwise we'd be traveling even further. To add insult to injury we often have to cross a toll bridge, which costs £5.30 ($10.60) for a car. Our local cachers have just sold their van. This cost £10.60 to cross the bridge. So (although I've never worked it out before) our regular trip costs $30-$40 dollars in gas and tolls. Who would have thought that walking could be so expensive. Having said all that, it doesn't put us off and we go on an all-day caching trip every weekend.
  20. If you look at the address in your browser (after clicking the above link) you will see &decrypt=y. If you remove this and resubmit the request the listing will appear properly. i.e. this is OK. You can recreate this for any listing by changing the guid (global unique identifier - a means of identifying each cache). How do we bring this to GC.com support attention to get it fixed?
  21. I've just noticed there were a bunch of code changes applied to GC.com on 16/4/2008. Related? I think so.
  22. So, are you guys saying that if you click this link you don't see the hint displayed as the description? If you do then this bug needs resolving by GC.com
  23. As I say, I have put TomTom6 on Mrs SidAndBob's and friends have also put Mio Maps on them without any problems. You don't need to do the hack to do this. I have one friend who has done the full hack. He had minor issues with it, though I can't remember the details.
  24. In my case the macro invokes custom icons, so I don't get the default blue dots either. As previously, this is a GC.com issue. The least painful solution might be to wait for Groundspeak to sort their problem out on the site, then it will all start magically working again.
