  1. I remember a long time ago hearing about it on some outdoor tv show and a father and his young son were geocaching and he was a paid member son was not and he said they basically have access to the same info. Then years later like this year I remembered about it and decided to see what it was all about. I think when I first saw the cacheing page but I don't think it was laid out like it was today with a map and a detailed description of the caches.
  2. I found a flat cache on the side of a transformer box near a park. Must have been new cause the log was not full but getting there unless the log was replaced.
  3. I agree with this. If a log is bad enough to need to be deleted, it should require a reviewer to do it. We have a local cacher now heavy with the delete key. NM, NA or anything short of praise, its gone. If I have an issue with a log, I'll ask (nicely) the cacher that logged it to adjust their log (major spoiler or similar). That CO can delete the NA all (s)he wants the email to the reviewer has already been sent he may delete the log but the reviewer has been notified with what the log original said.
  4. In otherwords never gonna happen.
  5. I also had that problem. My internet was out since Friday and when I logged into the sight via my nokia X2-01 I got the same error no logs found when I new darn well there were logs. My phone does not support java so I guess that was the issue there.
  6. Repeat after me: "DANGEROUS is not a guideline violation." It needs to be whats to stop someone from deciding Oh I know I'll place a catch inside a transformer and they have to reach in to retrieve it. The person gets fried and the family sues not only the person who placed the cache but the reviewer who published it and Groundspeak for negligent homicide saying they have reports from other caches who went after it that it was a sucide cache but they choose to do nothing cause they don't review on dangerous caches. Nevermind that the person who went after the cache should have known better then to mess around a transformer the issue would be nothing saying that you could be electrocuted retrieving the cache. That's the way it works in North America. example These kids got into the amtrak yard and climbed a boxcar and touched the overhead electrical wires. they survived but sued saying there were no signs warning them of the overhead wires. Nevermind they were trespassing they won cause there were no signs about the overhead wires.
  7. Is "boilerplate" a verb ? It is now. You'd be surprised how many geocachers do not have cameras or at least claim not to have them. anyone who uses a smartphone or a Iphone etc for a GPS has a camera plus most all cellphones now have a built in camera.
  8. also for the question that says if you got permission please state a contact. Whats to prevent a hider from giving out his or her best friends phone number or address to act as a land owner and have them say oh yeah I gave permission for that cache etc. Maybe having hiders upload a photo of the hiding spot for the reviewer that gets deleted after it's published would cut down on allot of these caches that are dangerous or do not meet the requirements.
  9. a pet peeve is those who temporary disable there cache saying I need to check on this one and then they just vanish.
  10. I have it set to ped mode and I enter the cords into the gps manually using the where to and scrolling to cords and entering it manauly. I tried a power trail with it and its useless for it since the trail was a hiking trail with thorny bushes and those things that stick to your clothes. it's not made for hiking trail caches.
  11. always tell the truth to law enforcement, security etc. they can tell if you're lying. If they ask you to leave due to complaints then leave and come back after the heat has died down.
  12. I have a garmin nuvi and I use it to cache with. The problem with auto GPSs are you can't use them for caches that are hidden in forests woods or power trails on a hiking trail. You need a hikers GPS for those as the auto gps will make you back track or say your getting closer when your moving away from it even when set on foot and off road mode.
  13. I want to add a train station waymark in the train station/depot cat. couple questions. can I use the name Amtrak in the description like this station is served by the amtrak Michigan services route the wolverine 6 trains a day stop here. would that be allowed? And can I have the logging requirement be that they must take a picture of the train while its at the station. Would I be allowed to post a PDF link of the schedule from the trains website?
  14. Those are just chargers for cell phones Ipods Iphones etc. the total power draw is not even that of a 5000 BTU window Air conditioner.
  15. Forget it. We need a delete button.
  16. Since im on bike I can only find caches a few miles from home. So I was wondering if any one wants to team up sometime and go cacheing together so I can get more finds under my belt like multys etc. I'm in the warren,Mi area. Give me more experience since I only have a automotive GPS that's useless for anything other then LPCs and stop signs caches. So would like team up with someone who has a proper GPS so I can get some other types of finds under my belt. a quick bit about me I don't like going after caches were you will be spotted by muggles and harassed. Yes I complained twice about the issues with hiding but I'm calm now and figured out that I can ask the reviewer if the location is available before placing the cache so give me a chance to redeem my self LOL.
  17. Maybe there should be some kind of option that emails the owners saying you have not logged into your account for 90 days you have 7 days from this email to log in to keep your account active or your account will be closed. All they need to do is log in and log out within the time limit. If they don't there account is closed and the caches archived automatically.
  18. You need to make it so that the map shows the final stages of multys and puzzle caches as well. It would help those who don't have the luxury of driving be able to hid caches like lock n locks close to home. I only have 1 cache hidden cause of the amount of multys in the area are preventing me from hiding it. I had to delete 2 caches cause the spots were denied due to the proximity of a multy. You should make it so that that if we choose to expose the location of a final stage then we are unable to log it as a find to prevent cheating. I had yet another cache denied due to it being close to a final stage yet the starting stage was over 1 and half miles from my hiding location. Do I need to go 3 or 4 miles away from any multys just so it doesn't get denied. I'M doing this all on bike I don't have a drivers license or a job to even get one since being laid off since April and no place wants to hire me cause I don't drive.
  19. I lost one here in the USA. It was in a brick wall used to muffle the sound of a freeway and it was hidden in a crack. I tried to use my pen to pry it out but it ended up falling back into the wall lost forever. I left a note for the owner who decided to just give up the spot instead of replacing it.
  20. I do not drive. I do not have a license so I ride my bike to the cache and that's one of the reasons I have trouble trying to find a place to hid my caches that's not taken cause you can only go so fare on a bike for it to be worth while. I have small lock n locks and its hard to find a place in a city to hid them when most of the good spots that are in biking distance are taken and It needs to be close so if theres a issue with the cache in winter I can get to it. Im not going to hid a cache 20 miles from my house and not be able to get out there in the middle of winter cause no one shovels there sidewalks anymore.I ride 18 miles to the beach but that's a 2 hour bike ride one way so I only do that on really hot days. That's one of the reasons I complained cause it's frustrating hiding a cache and then having to go back 3 times trying to move it away from a final stage of a puzzle cache cause the reviewer can't even tell you if your moving away or closer to it. I don't drive I don't have a car and it gets annoying when he keeps temporary disabling my caches cause there too close to a final stage that does not show up on the map. I gave up on 2 locations and archived them cause theres no place to hid them without muggles seeing them. There should be a option that when you submit cords it automatically says it's too close to another cache so you don't have to wait days for the reviewer to tell you its too close you move it then 3 days later its still to close cause after that its stops being fun trying to hid caches. If you have a smart phone I phone then you can upload the cache right there and still move while your still there instead of getting home and finding out it's too close.
  21. I give up I freaking give up. Only going to have 2 caches. you guys need to make a map that shows ALL CACHES INCLUDING PUZZLES when you go to hid a cache. no matter were I move it this one its till to dadgum close. i give up I lost 2 spots cause of this BS. now it will take other 3 days before it gets reviewed only for him to say again its too close to the final stage. I give up I REFUSE TO DO MIRCOS
  22. So I hid 2 caches to get started. both were rejected for being to close to other caches so I moved them. They got rejected a 2nd time STILL to dadgum close. When I hid these the caches at the one location only one was showing up on the map. Now there are 2. I'm just going to give up on the one location. There's no place there for me to hid it without it being seen unless I go micro which I'm not going to do. The other one is too close to one cache and also still to close to the end of a puzzle cache and cause i didn't find it the reviewer can't even tell me how many feet away from it I am. This is frustrating. There needs to be a map design that shows available areas so we don't have to try 20 times to find a location that's not taken since they have to be 500 something feet apart. GRRRRRRRRR.
  23. Well for one I have no intention of doing a hid and run that is hid it and never maintain it. Why can't you give us newbies a chance It's not like everyone is bad. There are couple caches I found that were posted by people with 1000s of finds and they are not maintaining there caches. I posted a NM for one as the lid was missing the log was ruined and he as yet to do anything or post he intends to do anything. He hasn't been on in over a month. It's not just the newbis that are you need to watch but your own seasoned vets. I may be new but I know what not to do. Don't put all us newbies in the same basket. You guys and gals were newbies once and had the same issue.
