  1. I'm afraid I'll have to log this one as a DNF for today. We got to the area just before dusk (trying to avoid the 102 temp today), found the general area, and started fighting the vines, lol. Unfortunately, we ran out of daylight before we ran out of places to search. We'll return soon and give it another try! ForestFrog
  2. I'll be over that direction this weekend...if no one has moved your TB along by then, I'll stop and take a look... ForestFrog
  3. I'm from the northern part of Central Louisiana, is that close enough for ya'? I've spent alot of time at Tensas NWR near Tallulah, LA, around Rolling Fork/Yazoo City/Panther Swamp in MS, and Felsenthal NWR in SE Arkansas (near Crossett). I'm hoping to get some caches placed in cache-poor areas of central and eastern LA soon. I wouldn't mind traveling a couple of hours to participate in NE LA/SE AR/MS events. Now, let's see if anyone else will sound off... ForestFrog
  4. quote: Hardwood = Oak, Cedar, and/or what else? I'm going to see if I can scrape some up. Maybe we'll get lucky and another hurricane will blow through here and uproot some more trees and the pre-cut oak will once again line the streets. Oak and any kind of pecan/hickory works best. I have at least a truck load of round wood from a red oak I had cut back in February. The rest of the tree has been cut into 2-foot sections, but still needs to be split. If we run low on firewood, I'll gladly supply the axe, sledge, and wedges if someone will supply the labor! quote: Now.. Where the heck is Phil? I emailed Phil the campout information and he said he hoped he'd be able to make it. I'm sure we'll hear from him soon. After all, it wouldn't be an official geocaching campout without Petie retrieving the firewood for us! ForestFrog
  5. Here's a little online information on Indian Creek from the LA Dept of Agriculture and Forestry: http://www.ldaf.state.la.us/divisions/forestry/indiancreekrecreationarea/default.asp ForestFrog
  6. I had forgotten about hunting season opening just before the campout. If we decide to keep it at Evangeline Camp, be aware that law enforcement will be out in force the first few weekends of hunting season. Should someone use the 'resource' without a permit, there probably won't be any warnings given, just a ticket with a hefty federal fine. Indian Creek has some great camp sites and is closed to hunting, so it may be our best bet this time around. I'm almost positive they allow campfires if you bring your own wood. Even if I can't stay the weekend, I'd be glad to drop off a truck load of firewood Friday night. ForestFrog
  7. I probably have to work the first three weekends in November, but I'll try to stop by and spend some time around the campfire at some point during the campout. I've been having major geocaching withdrawl, but things have been hectic lately. I'll talk to someone at work about getting a permit for at least one vehicle, so we can use the 'resource' to haul in gear. ForestFrog
  8. quote: Just in case, anybody have one of those big canopy-tent things? I have faith in ClayJar's anti-rain dancing abilities, but I'll try to borrow a couple of canopy tents (10'x10') just in case. If things get too bad we can always move the festivities to my house. You just have to promise to ignore the boxes I still haven't gotten around to unpacking! ForestFrog
  9. This sounds like a great project! I don't live in Baton Rouge any longer, but I'd like to help out with the event if I'm not working that weekend. Just let me know what kind of help you need. ForestFrog
  10. Count me in too! I can probably go over Friday at lunch and set up a tent to help reserve the area. The crawfish boil sounds like a great idea to me. Water shouldn't be a problem...we can either truck it over from my house or use one of the Forest Service faucets. There are several places in Alexandria and Pineville that have sacked crawfish on the weekends. When the event gets a little closer I could stop by and try to reserve a couple of sacks for Saturday morning. I don't mind picking them up if everyone decides in favor of a crawfish boil and Alex is willing to haul up the cooker!
  11. quote: My guess is the Kermit Museum is in Leland - birthplace of Jim Henson. If so, there are no caches within 70 miles, so it'd be a good place to start a froggy cache. I looked up the Kermit museum and it is indeed in Leland, Mississippi: Birthplace of Kermit the Frog Thanks for the info Pater! I'll definitely keep Leland in mind as a cache site.
  12. quote: Can't wait, but I haven't even hunted the others the others you and B8P put out. Please God tell me you're not into "navigational challenges" like someone else we know. (Just kidding, B8P!) Well...I have to admit, I'm more into "navigational challenges" than I used to be! The froggy one will probably focus more on scenery than testing navigational skills, but I have to warn you, my goal is to one day place a multi that gives B8P fits! quote: Is there a froggy nirvana somewhere? Hmmmmmmm. I may have to think on this one for awhile. Oh, how about Hollywood so he can visit Kermit the Frog! That must be every frog's dream right? LOL There are several froggy "hot spots" in the US, maybe he/she can visit a couple of those, then meet up with the Kermit the Frog travel bug. I think I remember hearing that there's a Kermit museum somewhere in Mississippi. Maybe that would be a good 'hopping' off point too. Happy Holidays Everyone!
  13. Hey Katie! I already have a travel bug tag for the froggy...thanks for leaving him for me! I've been working on a frog themed multi cache for a while, but with the job change and move, I haven't gotten to place it. I'll probably have it in place early next year and will release the froggy at the same time. Now he just needs a name and a goal....hmmmmm....any suggestions?
  14. Hey Mudfrog! Yep, I picked up my prize from Monkey Island after a long, long wait...thanks for not running away with it when you had the chance (and thanks to Katie and Alex for placing such an awesome cache)! I need to get to Texas soon to hunt some of the caches by you and Chicken...maybe after New Years. Happy Holidays Everyone! ForestFrog
