  1. Assuredly as I enter this, there will be opinions on both sides of the fence. What I cannot understand is why, other than trying to "get over" on the system, someone would give an event cache high Difficulty and/or Terrain rating. I have seen several meet and greet type events published with D1/T5 or similar ratings. For what reason would the event be a T5??? It would seem that these are being listed for the purpose of getting that coveted 1/5 star on the grid without actually doing something worthy. Maybe that is a purist view but, really, unless the event is on an island somewhere that you need a boat to get to or something similar, how could a meet and greet be anything greater than a 2/2. according to reviewers, they do not review D/T ratings so anything goes. What I would like to see is that when an event is submitted, the highest D/T it could get would be a 2/2 unless the CO appeals to Groundspeak for a higher justified rating.
  2. I has been ages since I last watched "Strange Brew" but still get a chuckle when I think about the mouse in the bottle that gets Bob and Doug to the brewery. Also have to mention that Canada ROCKS as in ROCK music with the Canadian Trio "RUSH" Geddy, Alex and Neil have been rockin' away for decades and have yet to put out anything that is less than great. Happy B-day Canada!!!! EH!
  3. please note that by requesting a coin from MineLab, you agree that you WILL release the trackable micro coin. You can do what you wish with the larger non-trackable coin.
  4. if your tie dye t-shirt coin is from the same minting that I had, check to see that you write the tracking code down on the flip or with whatever paperwork you may choose to send out as, again, if like my coin, the tracking code is enameled and not engraved. I never got my coin activated as when I got it (second hand)the code was partially chipped off. I ended up drilling and attaching a tag.
  5. 2640 is my guess. Thanks for the cointest.
  6. Ha, guess I haven't logged any trackables since the january update. see, I knew it was a good idea!
  7. 180 froggies in the jar (one on top of the jar )
  8. After entering a trackable's tracking code on the Trackables page (http://www.geocaching.com/track/default.aspx) at the "Enter the Tracking Code of the Item:" prompt. Could the tracking code carry over to the logging page instead of having to re-enter it since the code is required to log the trackable (other than a note which doesn't need a code entered). Of course, if the Reference number was used to access the TB page, that code would not allow any other log than the note.
  9. Have you ever lost something that couldn't be replaced? At no fault of your own but due to someone or something beyond your control. Do you not still have a memory of that something. Focus on the really important things in life, go hug your spouse, your kids, your pet. Move on.
  10. I've used Magellan eXplorist 100,200,210,400 and now the 610 and all have worked well for me. The 210 appealed to me as it does have the geocache manager ability. the one issue with it is that the files can only hold 200 caches but you can have as many files as you have memory and with an SD card, that can be alot. the more files the longer it does take to load on startup but still a worthwhile unit.
  11. GC1EW30 Start Yer Yakin' | Backwater Banter This was a co-FTF with my Brother in Law on a day that found me in a kayak for the first time and doing 5 paddle caches. My BIL's log states it all on this odd journey that may have been a DNF for many others less persistant. the cache container had been lashed to a submerged recliner that had been deposited in the backwater. Somehow in an area that really had no current and was choked with algae, the chair and cache has floated off nearly 0.1mile from its original position. only by persistance and being able to spot a bright orange something was this one able to be a FTF.
  12. the checkboxes allow you to download a file to your PC not to the GPS. I also would like to be able to download to the GPS, more than one at a time but thats not the best way. premium membership allowing Pocket Queries and utilizing something like GSAK which can upload multiple caches to the GPS (in my case Magellan eXplorist 610). I have uploaded over 3000 caches in one shot using this method. the "download complete" message is pretty subtle and shouldn't take but a moment to display. I think the download button doesn't change shade much either so it may look like it didn't do anything. I too, don't like having to answer the update prompt but it is still better than keying in each set of coordinates and not having any other information.
  13. Love! Geocaching allows me to get away from the hustle and bustle of the world around me. It gives me a time to commune with God's wonderful creation and gives me time to sort through my thoughts. It has taken me to places that few others get to see. I look forward to taking my son and daughter out caching a bit more with me and explore things together.
  14. without a photo of the coin being available, I guess I am confused on what the question is. Is it not trackable because it is unactivated or because there is no tracking number? If it is unactivated (this would be a rare find considering the age), retrieving the activation code would be needed. If it is Non-trackable, it is swag and should be traded even/up (or paid forward if the cache it was in is unknown) and the coin added to your collection or whatever you choose to do with it.
  15. way cool Droo! nice gesture.
  16. 4. What great geocaching story do ya “got”? no great stories but lots of great memories and even more great friends through geocaching. I have had the opportunity to serve on many event committees in the state of Wisconsin and serve on the BOD for the state geocaching association.
  17. 3. What “gotcha” into geocoins? What gotch into geocoins??? that's like saying what gotcha into potato chips you don't always remember the first but you know that you can't stop. I don't remember what the first coin is that I picked up but the first purchased ones was the 5 coin set of 2007 Dragonfly coins. I released the 4 colors but held the LE coin for my collection. That LE is the only one of the set remaining in play as the others went MIA. Always hopeful but not holding my breath that they resurface.
  18. 2. How did you “gotcha” geocaching name? When I signed up, I was working as a medical technologist in a hospital laboratory so the labrat part was easy there. the WR part is for where I live - Wild Rose.
  19. 1. What “gotcha” into geocaching? We were researching some possible events to include in an adventure race our organization was holding. One of the members mentioned that a friend did geocaching and that it might be an event we could incorporate in some way. I got the assignment to check it out and after doing um, one cache, I was hooked. the event for the race ended up more like a letterbox but it was too late, I had found my obsession for the future.
  20. jumping in for a $25 bag if available. email sent.
