GI's using Civilian GPS units abroad
zulutime replied to Woodstramp's topic in GPS technology and devices
Consider asking the people already over there what receiver and maps they recommend. -
ruidealmeida, you appear to be struggling with some misconceptions. Geocashing's offer to publish cashes and events for members has limitations. The publisher has complete freedom to set those limitations in their own medium. A prohibition would be a limitation enforced upon you or the publisher by an outside authority. Similarily, this forum is not "a place of free speach." The owner and provider of the forum has both a right and a responsibility to limit speech here. Nevertheless, you retain all your rights to free speech and to publish events independent of Geocashing/Groundspeak. What ever rights you might have if they didn't exist, you still have. Isn't that wonderful news?! Best wishes and hope this helps =)

Preposterous and regressive. Smells like spam. -
It should do UTM and I'm pretty sure that you can update the firmware to get DD.MM.MMM.

. . . I reformatted my SanDisk card under windows 2000 and copied all garmin files from my other card and . . . Just checking, is your card a Sandisk "Ultra"? There have been reported incompatabilities with that type of card. -
Garmin announces Foretrex 301 and 401 here: http://garmin.blogs.com/my_weblog/2009/06/...family-fun.html Updated with high sensitivity. The 401 has wireless. Both use AAA batteries. Apparently they have the same screen as 101 & 201; still hold (only) 500 WPs.

I *think* the cases of that series are glued together. You might consider carefully cutting it apart in the groove while avoiding damage to the stuff inside, removing as little material as is possible so it can be glued back together. Somewhere on the internet are pictures of one disassembled which might have some clues on how best to open it.

Why ask permission? Just give it a try.

GPS accuracy and reliability comparison
zulutime replied to TravelingViking's topic in GPS technology and devices
... I'm not sure how to tell about the chipset. There is at least one thread here discussing Mediatech versus Garmin(?) chipsets in the etrex H line. Maybe it is indicated in the startup screen or in firmware copyright ststements. Thanks. -
GPS accuracy and reliability comparison
zulutime replied to TravelingViking's topic in GPS technology and devices
Thanks, Olaf, for creating your website, the stations, and your insightful measurements. A few questions: Were your tracks made with EGNOS/WAAS enabled in the Garmins? Approximately how old is your Venture? Can you tell us which chipset and firmware it has? Many thanks. -

You might consider the Garmin Etrex H. Make sure of the "H". The user's manual is available in pdf form on Garmin's website. -
