  1. All right, I finally got my maps uploaded, now I can't seem to upload the caches from GSAK. I'm sure it's just something stupid I'm not doing. I have an eXplorer500 w/ a 1GB SD card. The caches are all listed in GSAK. I have them all checked. Now, should the GPS be in file transfer mode to internal memory or to the SD card. From GSAK, I then select GPS/Export to Magellan Explorist Now, is it better to select Explorist POIs or Explorist Geocaches? Next, the path and file to create. I believe this is where I'm going wrong. This is what is defaulting for me: "C:\Program Files\Magellan\eXplorist 500\Geocaching.gs" I can't seem to find the GPS. When I hit "generate", it seems like it does and I get a "finished ok" popup. But when I go into the GPS, there isn't anything there. Any ideas?
  2. Thank you everyone, I appreciate your help. I've taken the day off work - I'm determined to learn how to do this! I have the SD card, a 1G. I know it's more than I'll need but it was about the same price as the smaller ones. Be warned, I will call on you if I need more help! LOL Thanks again.
  3. Thanks, I guess I'll just have to play around with it. The manual isn't much help. It seems to tell me everything I can do but not how to do it.
  4. Yes, I'll admit it. I'm impatient. I've had an eXplorer 200 for about 6 months. I decided to upgrade and received my new eXplorer 500 and MapSend Topo 3D software on Monday. Tonight is the first I've had a chance to sit down and try to play with it. All I want to do for now is download some areas to the GPSr. Was I wrong in thinking this would do what I want it to do? I would like the GPSr to show all roads, not just the major roads that come preloaded. Instructions are not helpful at all. How big of an area can I download - can I do all of PA? What about all of PA and parts of NY and WV? Can I do all that area in one lump or should it be broken down and most importantly -how the heck do I do it? I lost and getting confused and frustrated. THanks!

Thank you - how do I then list it on the PA Delorme cache site?

    Bookmark help

I recently signed up for a premium membership. How do I share my bookmarks? I created a bookmark of caches I want to count toward the Delorme Challenge and would like to post that bookmark on the cache page but I don't know how to do it. Also, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I can't get any of the files that the Central PA Geocachers are hosting to work for me. I believe I downloaded the programs but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do now. Yeah, I'm a technology ditz. Thanks!
  7. D and I spent more time than we should have looking for a cache in a nearby state park after work a few weeks ago. It got dark pretty quickly. Thank goodness it wasn’t a large state park and we were able to make our way down to the lake and follow the shoreline back to the car, because of course, I didn’t mark the parking coordinates when we first got there. It was totally dark by the time we got back. What I learned: Always, always mark your parking coordinates I need to carry a bigger flashlight than my current mini-mag flashlight I need to leave enough time to not just find the cache but also to find my way back to the car
  8. I'm sorry if I'm being dense, I'm obviously not very technologically savvy. So I can buy the 500 LE and use either 3-AAA batteries OR this rechargable battery?
  9. Thank you everybody, for your help. I think I've decided to buy the 500LE w/ software from Costco. Seems like an excellent deal - although I welcome any advice or warnings.
  10. I don't think I explained it well. The 500LE uses 3 AAA batteries The 500 North American uses a built-in Li-Ion rechargeable battery It doesn't look like the 500NA Li-ion rechargeable battery could easily be swapped if it dies in the middle of the woods so I'm leaning toward the buying the one that has 3AAA batteries. I currently have a 200 which uses 2 AA batteries which will last about 12 hours on any kind of name brand batteries. Does anyone have the 500LE and could tell me approximately how long the 3AAA batteries last? I don't know if there is much difference between 2 - double A and 3 - triple A batteries.
  11. A fellow geocacher and I were poking around in some bushes and flower beds outside a post office. A lady strolls by and says "You ladies do a really nice job on the landscaping." Yep, we do. Thanks for the compliment!
  12. I'm considering getting the Magellan 500 LE which uses 3 AAA batteries as opposed to the 500 which uses built in rechargeable Li-ion batteries. My concern with the rechargeable batteries is if they were to go dead while I'm in the woods, I'm out of luck. Whereas I can always carry extra regular batteries with me. Does anyone have the 500LE? I'm wondering approximately how long the 3AAA batteries last. Magellan seems to list battery life for every other model except for this one which kind of concerns me. Thanks for your help!
  13. Wow that's a great deal! I just want to make sure of what I'm getting with the software from someone who knows firsthand: the topo software would include all roads, not just the basic highways that are installed on the GPS, is this correct? Thanks!
  14. Hi there. I live in Blair Co. but spend a lot of time camping in Mifflin County. Nice to meet everyone!
  15. I've done multis where I had to drive to each stage, I've had some that were within walking distance of each other and the last multi I did was some of each. That was a first! I jotted down the coords, thinking to myself that they weren't too far off. We went back to the car to enter them into the GPS (it was a very windy day, didn't want to stand outside doing it). Hubby started driving away as I'm entering them - they're like 200 feet away! LOL I learned to go ahead and enter the coords before moving off. I wouldn't expect that information to be included in the cache page but don't see anything with putting it there if you wanted to.
  16. I'll add my favorites so far. In no particular order: Fish Kish Cache by subsystem (GCW96X) Figure It Out! by Peters Pan (GCP3N7) Perry Reflection by dziner (GCKEQF) (what a view!) The Lost Children of the Alleghenies by jt (GC9763) (very touching story) The Land of Oz by The Seven G's (GCTDVT)
  17. I have a TB who has a certain destination. Is it all right if I mail the TB to someone else, closer to the destination, for them to place. Or is that frowned upon and I should just move the TB along as best I can.
  18. Here's another TB question. I have a TB who has a certain destination. Is it all right if I mail the TB to someone else, closer to the destination, for them to place. Or is that frowned upon and I should just move the TB along as best I can.
  19. Thanks for the input. I was trying to compare the spec sheets I printed from RadioShack's web site. They sell both the 400 GPS Receiver (for $249.99) and the 400 North America GPS Receiver (for $299.99) and I really wasn't sure what the difference was. I'll check into the 210. Thank you!
  20. I’m looking at purchasing a Magellan 500. I currently have a Magellan 200. From what I can tell the 500 has a rechargeable battery, has PC interface and a color screen. But is it any better memory-wise? Is it more accurate than the 200? Since all I use the GPS for is geo-caching is it worth upgrading from a 200 to a 500? Anyone have any opinions? Also, does anyone know if there’s a difference between the Magellan eXplorist 400 North America GPS Receiver and the Magellan eXplorist 400 GPS Receiver? Thank you!!
