  1. In HK, official topo maps (1:20,000 and 1:25,000) are printed with MGRS in WGS84 datum. HK1980 is no longer used.
  2. Is you unit an s-series with barometer? Just wonder if it will affect the barometer/altitude reading with it inside the watertight case. Although equipped with a valve, I believe it will only release excessive pressure inside the case whenit is over a certain level.
  3. Thanks PAPAKI. My local distributor doesn't stock the 1030 so I have to shop online. With your photo I can now order in confidence.
  4. The latest Mio A700 has all the functions you required including Sirf III GPS but I am not sure if it supports the mobile phone network system in your country.
  5. Looks nice. Can you post a photo with the GPS in it?
  6. Have you tried this from Garmin: http://www.garmin.com/manuals/UsingaGarmin...Maps_Manual.pdf
  7. The main attration to me is the more sensitive SIRFIII chip.
  8. The GPS heading will only be useful while you are on the move. When standing still, the GPS has no reference of where it is facing. In this case you need the compass which determins direction from the earth's magnetic field.
  9. You should download and install the latest USB driver from Garmin if not already done so: http://www.garmin.com/software/USBDrivers_21.exe Then restart yor computer. After that your computer should be able to recognise your GPS.
  10. Downloaded the software and installed without problem on Windows XP. Found a gstart icon installed and running at the taskbar. However when I connect my 60CSx to the PC thru the USB, gstart can't find the GPSr while both Mapedit and Track Maker can. Also double click on the POI loader icon won't get the programe to launch. Anyone came across the same problem?
  11. The USB cable can only upload/download map/waypoint/route etc between the laptop and GPS. For real time tracking using the 76csx as a receiver for the laptop, you will need a serial cable.
  12. I also had the invisible shield installed on my 60CSx. I carry it in a twin M16 magazine ammo pouch and have it attached to the strap of my backpack when hiking. I am trying to make a better fit carrying case out of 1" and 2" nylon webbing and velcro.
  13. I can't find the "edit" button for my previous post so I need to post a correction here: The correct coordinate for Spot Height 869 of Sunset Peak at Lantau Island at the South West of the map should be 22Deg15.419Min N 113deg57.161min E
  14. Thanks Robert & Clyde, got all the caches into my 60CSx.
  15. My 60CSx is sharing the USB cable from my card reader with no problem. I don't even have a ferrite bead on my cable.
  16. Got my unit for about a week now and just took it out for a walk under some moderate rain. Although it says the unit is waterproof to IPX7, I can see the rubber dusts cover at the port openings at the back do not provide adequate sealing especially for the mini usb port. Actually there is water seepage in the openings when I open the dust covers. Are these usb/serial/mcx ports waterproof on their own or do they rely on the rubber dust cover to protect them from water? Will they rust if they are in contat with water?
  17. What is the capacity of the NiMH batteries? 2100mAh?
  18. I just got hold of my first GPS unit and here are some maps for HK: All new online Map with detail street name and contour. 19. Ordered a 60CSx last Thursday from them (price was US$500 but with saving on shipping + free 512 card and screen shield) and just had my 60CSx delivered by Fedex to my address in Hong Kong yesterday. Not sure about returns but the do mention replacement of defective item is foc. Their follow up on e-mail and order is quite well in my case. A guy in the local hiking forum ordered from them earlier but the item was out of stock for a few days and they sent the item to him by priority Fedex at no extra charge to make up the delay. The only problem is they are 16 hours behind (19 perhaps in your case) and because of the time difference, it is difficult to catch them on the phone if needed.
