  1. I am looking to go paperless. I have a Garmin Etrex that works fine, so I will still down load the coordinates but I would like not to print out the caches I am searching for. I would like them to be viewed on something else, is it a Palm Pilot that I want? I do not want to pay a monthly charge by using a cell phone. I have heard people mention that they are driving by a cache and get notified, maybe that is a blackberry, but I believe they also have a monthly charge. Thanks
  2. Thanks so for the helpful information for adoption. I now can find the site easily and found out that I was not clicking on "look up username" after that it made the "send adoption request" clickable. This has taken me months, now all I need is BUMPUSREADER to reply to my request............Thanks again
  3. OK BUMPUSREADER has agreed to adopt Perry Mountain, but I cannot get the adoption site easily and when I was there, I could not click on the bottom of the message to allow him to adopt the cache. Any help would be greatfully accepted: Like how to get to the adoption site easily and how to make it happen. Thanks
  4. Wondering if anyone would like to adopt Perry Mountain GCHV0E in Shawme-Crowell State Forest, Sandwich MA off Route 130. It needs a new log book and is damp. We used to travel near the area more often. If someone would like to have it and use the same container they would be welcome to it. A few new caches have come up in the area, so it is visited often. Thanks
  5. A few years ago we found all neatly folded a $100.00 bill on a deserted trail, no one in sight and no one logged the cache as a find the same day we did. Must have been just a trail walker!
  6. I have used Anti-Itch Gel (external analgesic) by Band-Aid. My last 3oz tube cost $7.99 well worth it as it is like a miracle and doesn't itch. I have used it with Poison Sumac and Ivy. It is a clear jell. It used to be called Ruli Jell by Johnson & Johnson and stops the itch. I heard that a prescription for cortizone from the Doctor can have a rebound effect and you can get it worse. I never itched with poison sumac when I used it which I think is much worse than oak or ivy Good Luck, don't think cachers will ever stop hiding caches in PI.
  7. I have not released any of my copy tags for missing travel bugs, but have photocopied and laminated the photocopy of the copy tag as they can also go missing and I wanted to keep my copy tag. I have not had any problems with my copies as long as the number is clear. I usually edit the bug page and mentioned that the original was muggled and now it has a copied tag.
  8. I got a Green Jeep in the mail and logged it in, but it does not show up in my drop down bug listing so I cannot drop it into a cache. I have logged and deleted it a few times, but still not in my drop down to leave into a cache. Has anyone else had this problem.
  9. Don't feel bad about logging the bug into the wrong cache, we have probably all done it. It is a very simple fix. You told the owner, they just have to log it out of the wrong cache and into the one you really left it in. So, just make sure they know where it really is. Cachers usually don't keep track of bug numbers, but the owner will have it.
  10. Got mine in the mail today, just filled out the form the other day.
  11. BlueDuece is right, don't worry that it is still in your possession, the owner will just grab it away from you.
  12. I have visited my Waymarking Stat page and the ones I created under someone elses ownership of a category do not show, so I am going to log them so they show up. Just wanted to check with everyone as to what they were doing because in geocaching you cannot log your own, but they do show up in your stats. If that changes I can always delete them. Thanks
  13. It appears that after I enter a new Waymark in an accepted category that I must then log it again so it will add to my count. To me that is like logging your own cache, which is not allowed, or is this one of the bugs to be worked out?
  14. I have 2 virtual caches, should I switch them to Waymarks and then archive them?
  15. I have tried to sort thru all the Waymarking information, but got lost. If all Locationless caches are made into Waymarking, does that mean all virtuals are too? Do you have to be a premium member to have a waymark?
  16. Some people don't like to log their finds on line as it is hard in the beginning. One of us logs the finds in the log book and the other logs on the computer. They usually contain different information. After the find we sit and read the log book, when we get home we log the computer. It is a nice feature of geocaching that all the statistics are kept up to date. When we are not out geocaching it is almost just as much fun to read about our favorite caches and the forums are like reading stories about all of our geocaching friends. Guess we like all aspects of geocaching, it is all about the numbers, but it is all about the information too
  17. Happy Birthday Geocaching. We have had so much fun. Thanks for the best hobby we ever had.
  18. We found a small glass bottle with coordinates in it and nothing else. We entered them into our GPS and it led us to a small park in another town, miles away where we found a gray painted leggs egg with sterling limited edition coin sealed in protective plastic. It is great and quite a surprise, we have never found out who placed it. At another cache, when we opened it there was a brand new crisp $20. we looked around for someone hiding in the woods, but no one appeared. When we logged it we sent an email to the last finder and he said to have lunch on him and return the favor, it was a fun surpirse.
  19. There is a multi cache in Massachusetts that the cache hider used PVC pipe cut in 1 inch pieces, then sliced them open to be put on small trees. After prying them open to go around the limb they did not hurt the tree at all. A sharpie was used to write the coordinates on the white plastic. They were discretely placed so you did not see them from a distance. There are also magnets used if metal is available with coordinates written on them. The cache is called the Middlesex Canal Cache and is a series of multi with caches that lead to a final, all along a Historical defunct Canal, there are memorial markers along the old canal. It can be done in a day, but not by all! It was quite a challenge and very exhilerating to finish in a day, took us from dawn to dusk.
  20. We have a hand made walking stick that we take caching with us, it has a travelbug tag on it and is logged in and out of all our caches. It is called PWS Travelbug (personal walking stick) anyone one who meets us on the trail or at cache meets can log it. One time a 5 year old spotted it on the trail and whispered "Dad that stick has a TB tag on it", made us laugh. We also have another that we called 50 foot walking stick travelbug that was hidden within a 50 foot radius of a cache. The finder could keep it and log it in and out of their caches, so far 2 cachers have used it and it is still in ones possession, it is fun seeing where the STICK goes! When they don't want to log it any more all they have to do is hide it within a 50' radius of a cache. It is fun seeing where the Stick goes, more then we do! My first stick is retired I had a permanent sharpie pen and wrote the name of every cache I visited on it and the date, it got filled, so it was retired.
  21. Does anyone have any information on a missing travel bug "Crane On The Wing". It is an origami shaped crane. If was dropped off at the Coffee & Conversation Cache Meet 2/26 and is still there, someone must have it. It hasn't been logged since the meet. I don't have its tag number as it is not my bug, but I would like to archive the site soon, but I won't until the bug has moved.
  22. Yesterday I found a cache in Sweden, it was a Virtual and you went to a site that had a simulated 5 part cache hunt. I did the first 4 and on the last one, found the cache, but it wouldn't open. I then could not find the cache to log it or even ask a question about it. Can anyone help me.
  23. How about having one inside a library? You could speak to the head librarian and explain geocaching. I know that it would be only be accessible during the hours that the library was open. You could find a small quaint old fashion library maybe with some quality that would make it a unique place to hide a cache. Some really old buildings are benchmarks, so it could count twice for benchmark finders. People could do it during bad weather. Actually we have one called "Caching at the James" that follows this theme, only it is not a bench mark. People do not know they are going to a library as the coordinates only take you to the front door. (then you need to use the clue) The hours are posted on the cache site. It is suggested that you trade media related items, books, tapes, or CD's and it is a great place to drop off bugs. We even held a Cache Meet there a a few years ago as they had a meeting room there. It is a small library and only has 4 librarians and they have had so much fun with this idea and it brings people to this vintage library. Good Luck
