  1. I have two potetional buyers for this item! I will post another message when it is officially sold or if both potetional buyers fall through.
  2. I am selling an almost new Garmin Extrex Venture HC. I purchased the gps in a bundle that contained the gps and the Topo 2008 maps. I am keeping the topo maps, but have decided to sell the Venture HC. It is in excellent condition and it really has never been used. I have kept it in my backpack as a backup gps. It comes with the following items: * Transfer cable * Lanyard * Protective Case * Belt Clip * Manuals ** I can include a copy of waypoints manager if needed. It didn't come with the bundle, but I have a copy of it from when I purchased my Garmin 60 csx. I am asking $100 - which includes shipping. I accept paypal or money orders. I can send you my ebay account name if you would like to see my buying and selling rating. I don't know how to add pictures to this message - so send me an email and I will email you pictures of everything.
  3. kf4oox Thanks for adding your honest opinion to the topic. It is nice to get opinions about this topic from another cacher in the area. I remember both of your caches and I have to say that they were definately two of the better ones that I did on my cache run. The view from the one was the best of the day and your container at the other one was really cool. I also think that your comment about gas prices hits home with a lot of cachers in our area. People are really struggling around here and I do think that it has had an impact on the number of people who are caching. I also think that it affects how well people maintain their caches. The AGT GeoTrail is a great project and I am extremely grateful for the people who started it. I have found several caches in Crawford county and some of them have taken me to some great places. I know that there are other projects like it throughout the US and I am glad that we can say that we have similar project in our area. Thanks again for your giving your insight and opinions!
  4. I will just politely say that maybe you should actually do some caching in Northeast, OH and Western, PA before you mention me needing an attitude adjustment. On another note - I am glad to hear that things are better in other parts of the state (Northwest, OH) and country. I just did a PQ and there have only been 12 caches published in the last month that are less than 20 miles from me. I placed four of those caches and had an influence in another one. I just hope things get better and that more people get out and start caching again. Ummm...I didn't say YOU needed an attitude adjustment. Think about it in response to your original post. I apologize if I misinterpreted your post!
  5. I didn't realize that I had to indicate my exact caching location in my initial posting. I apologize that I didn't say that I live on the OH & PA line (Ashtabula & Crawford County), and that most of the caches that I have found are within 40 miles of the line. I also didn't realize that I was "pointing the finger" at the Cleveland area. The area I am talking about is about 70 to 80 miles east of the city of Cleveland. So I really don't consider Cleveland being in my neck of the woods. A lot of the posts also keep focussing on the number of new caches being placed in their areas. I am glad that many of your locations seem to be getting new caches listed everyday (I am definately jeolous!), but my intial post concerning the state of caching deals more with the condition of the caches that I have found and that fact that people don't seem to be caching around here lately. That is what concerns me the most. I know that there aren't going to be a lot of new caches in my area, but it seems like the caches that are here are not upkeeped as well as other areas and that only a handful of people are active cachers.
  6. I just did a seach and only fifty new caches have been placed within twenty miles of my house within the last year. Of those fifty - I have placed ten of them. I also noticed that a couple of them are already archived. So I have already had to expand my search to find caches. Lately I have been driving 40 to 45 minutes (one way) to find areas that have several caches that I haven't found yet. I also second the thought of StarBrand. Spend the extra money and get good containers.

  8. Within the last few weeks I have really become disappointed in the state of geocaching in my neck of the woods. Within the last two months I have found over 250 caches and had about another 15 DNF's. Unfortunately I would say that a lot of the ones that I found had some short of problem. Here is a rough list of some of the problems: broken containers, containers full of water, logs completely destroyed, logs needed replaced, caches not in their hiding spot, etc, ect. I have emailed several owners about the problems and received hardly any communication back from any of them. Most of my DNF's were also from caches that were muggled over the winter months. Within the last month I have placed another nine caches. Most have been found by the regular caches in the area, but I have one that was posted a week ago and it still hasn't been found. There have also only been about ten new geocaches placed within 20 minutes of my house within the last three months. I have been the FTF on two of them and I didn't need to rush out to get them. Unfortunately all of these experiences really make me wonder about the state of geoaching in my neck of the woods. I am afraid that the poor economy, rising food & gas prices, and people losing their jobs or having to get second jobs to survive - is really hurting the sport. How are things where you live?
  9. I just had this one approved yesterday - GC1BABR. Unfortunately no one has tried to find it yet.
  10. I discovered the PennDOT road kill dump on my way to a cache this past weekend. There were at least 30 dead deer thrown into one big pile. Not a pleasant site or smell!
  11. I took a trip to the original cache site this past December when I was visiting family in Oregon. The original site is nothing to get too excited about, but seeing the plaque was kinda cool. The original plaque is also a lot smaller than it looks in the picture.
  12. I have actually found the cache in question and I had absolutely no problem with the description of the cache or the cache placement. In fact, the cache is definately in a better place than some other AGT caches that are in the series. I also think the cache is a lot better than some of the other caches in that part of Pennsylvania. I can't tell you how many caches that I have found lately where the owner has neglected to take care of their cache or that the caches were placed in some pretty bad locations. So I hope things get worked out with this cache and thank you Seedpicker for placing the cache in the first place.
  13. You can create a PQ by following the directions on the Find Caches Along Route section under your My Account page. All the directions are right there.
  14. Thanks for all your input! I got the TOPO 2008 this morning and I will be trying it out by the end of today.
  15. I currently have a Garmin 60csx and the City Select v7 mapping software. I am getting ready to buy the 2008 Topo software, but I don't know how the two mapping programs will interact on the gpsr. Will both maps overlap on one another on the screen or do you have the capability of selecting which map you want displayed on the screen? For example, can I select the City Select when I am driving and then switch to the Topo when I get our of the car? Any help or answers would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Professional Babysitter (AKA - High School Science Teacher). In the summer I work as a recreation directors at a very large (3,500 camp sites) camping resort.
  17. It could be worse - there has only been two or three new caches within 25 miles of my house in the last six months! The only new caches in my area are the ones that I am placing.
  18. We learned the hard way (several DNF's) to start looking for regular size caches with 1 or 2 difficulty level. Also go looking for caches that were found recently and have very few DNF's listed. It is amazing how the longer you cache the more you realize how clueless you were when you first get started. The longer you do it you also realize how much fun you can have and how many new places you can discover. Keep trying and remember a bad day caching is still a lot better than a good day working.
  19. Mine also does the same thing. I must calibrate it just about everytime I turn it out and probably at least once or twice while out caching. The firmware upgrade did nothing to fix the problem.
  20. I would say that geocaching is definately one of the cheapest hobbies out there. I scuba dive and you have at lleast $1800 in equipment plus the expense of actuallly diving (usually ~$80 per boat dive). I also golf on occation and you have at least $200 in cheap clubs and balls and it cost at least $20 to play on a very cheap course. Just about every hobby I can think of (skiing, fishing, boating, paint ball, backpacking, etc) costs more money than geocaching.
  21. I use decon containers for two of my caches and I have never had any problem with them leaking. I even live in OH where it either rains or snows all the time. I just bought two more to create two new caches. The only real problem that I can see using them is dealing with the warning label that is on their lid. The thread "It's happened again" on the Geocaching Topics forum explains more about that problem.
  22. I did tell them that I was ordering another bag when they told me that they may not get the bag for another 2 to 3 weeks. I also unfortunately paid for the bag using PayPal - so I can't have the charges credited to a credit card. I am afraid at this point that they will not credit my PayPall acount if I do send the bag back. They haven't done anything that they said they would do - so I really don't trust that they would credit my account.
  23. Last week I was reading a thread that talked about what people use to carry all their stuff while geocaching. One of the bags that people mentioned as great for geocaching was the Maxpedition Jumbo. I was looking to a get a new bag and they looked perfect for me. So I found some companies that sold them online and I ordered one. Unfortunately ordering from Camping & Cooking Supplies has been a nightmare. Here is a summary of my experience: I placed an order with them and I soon received a confirmation email telling me that they received payment and that the item would ship shortly. I later get a email telling me the item is on backorder and they won't be able to ship it for 2 to 3 weeks. I then get an email telling me that I can cancel the order and get reimbursed if I don't want to wait. So I asked them to cancel the order. They do not respond to my request and so I email them again and ask them to cancel the order. I finally get a response and they say they are processing it and I should get reimbursed within two days. A day later I get an email telling me that they shipped the bag. I email them back to question why they didn't cancel the order and they respond by telling me everything is all right and that I will have the bag by Friday. I emailed them again to question why the order wasn't cancelled and I cannot get a response back. I then tried calling their phone number and it comes back that it is no longer in service. Unfortunately when I thought my order was cancelled I purchased the bag from another company. I have gotten that bag and I think it is great. I just wanted to put all this information out there to make other caches aware of how the Camping & Cooking Supplies in Riverside, CA does business.
