  1. I can see the profile, but what I can't see is the Statistics. Some people chose to block this. I have come upon it several times. In that case the following message is displayed. "Statistics What was your biggest caching day of all time? Geocaching Statistics lets you visualize your geocaching activity in different ways and serves as a checklist of challenges to tackle in the process of becoming a well-rounded geocacher. This user has elected to not display their detailed statistics."
  2. I think that is too strong. Maybe 'meant to' would be more apt. Because who's going to stop this.
  3. I'm not saying this is the case here, but the trouble with some people is they WON'T log DNFs. They just won't, as though a DNF will poison them.
  4. As a CO I never worry about someone logging the wrong date. I only check that the log was signed. So I would say, go ahead. But I can't speak for all COs.
  5. I have only been on one cruise so far, and I would like to have had a way of finding out if there was another geocacher aboard, but had no idea how. It's not in the cruise ship's favour to assist in this either, for if they assisted to link up any geocachers aboard with others, they are less likely to buy their tours, and instead are likely to share a taxi ride and go caching together. On my cruise I put caching above tours, except in Suva where there is only one cache; at the museum. I took a tour that included the museum so I could log that cache. While others entered the museum I ran across the neighbouring park to answer the multicache questions and then find the cache. And I did in good time and still had time to view the small museum. The other caches in other ports I walked to. Not all ports had caches. The longest walk was eight kms on Lifou Island, which gave me one traditional and two earth caches. I would have liked company. My travel companion has mobility problems, so except for the bus tour around Suva she stayed aboard the ship and I went ashore by myself.
  6. Maybe that's someone off a cruise ship. It would be a good way to meet up with any other geocachers on a cruise. Otherwise how do they find out if another geocacher is on that cruise? Someone who they might then be able to cache with. Of course for that to be effective, the meet does need to be at the first port.
  7. This reminds me of a cache published in Australia that no-one ever found. In that case I guessed the cache existed as much as the CO's armchair logs existed. The NM logs too I strongly suspected of being made from the same armchair. But still people tried to find it. Even after I wrote a note mentioning the COs history of logging caches, (without finding them first). That log stayed longer than I thought it would, but eventually the history was deleted by the CO (from their armchair no doubt). I am not saying the cache here being discussed doesn't exist; only that it reminds me of the other 'cache'. A major difference is that the CO of the mentioned cache has a history of finding and logging caches. Unless a lot of COs are not doing their job of checking logs, and I can't imagine that with that many logs. It is remarkable though that a small sized cache has not been found, presuming of course it really is a small sized cache. All I can imagine in a forest is a (very realistic) false section of tree bark is hiding it, or it's under a stump and the stump slides up. Likely wrong, but they are my contributions.
  8. If I had to take a photograph of every cache I found that would slow done the finds and the enjoyment. Signing the log (clearly) is enough, as the CO doing their job will check the log (I do) and take action if the signature isn't there. One day I found 82 caches. (Many have found more than that.) Imagine needing to photograph each and all of the cache logs, and then not get the photographs mixed. I only photograph the log for FTF, if the signature might be a problem to see (I once signed in charcoal because I forgot my pen..which I rarely forget), or I need to show the state of the log and container to the CO, often as part of a NM.
  9. But that reads like it's okay if they have their husband or wife with them. Two people. Then they can be rewarded. Very unfair on the single traveller. I am not keen on this sort of event either, but your suggestion is discriminative.
  10. Little difference between a single traveller who holds an event and is the only once to turn up, and a wife and husband who hold an event and they are the only ones to turn up, but they get to keep their logs, while the single traveller gets theirs deleted. It can be hard enough already for single travellers. Just another difficulty added.
  11. I got one request asking when I was going to move a TB on. I had only had it for a few days (three comes to mind, but it was some time ago, so not sure). That annoyed me and I dumped it in the next cache that was big enough to hold it, whether I thought the cache was suitable or not. Someone else picked it , but I think it went missing after that. I wonder if that TO pestered the next person too. VAVAPAM, by this comment, I am NOT suggesting you pestered the holder of your TB. What you described that you did, sounds very reasonable to me.
  12. Get a spell checker and that would solve many problems. I can't understand why someone would not have something as basic as that. My spelling has improved since I got a spell checker. In the past my spelling was so bad, I often didn't know a word was spelled wrongly.
  13. You are doing nothing wrong and they are polite enquiries. There are also gaps between them, meaning you are not bombarding the person with requests. No one should get offended by them. I do fear though that this lack of response and the time means you won't hear from the coin again.
  14. Owner Maintenance 03/Aug/2019 I’m flat out at the moment. Hoping to get up to replace this one soon Needs Maintenance 02/Aug/2019 There was a NM on 09/Jul/2019, but the cache is still in bad condition and no word from the CO. A new cache and log is needed, and the old cache needs to be taken away and disposed of and not left here to fall apart more. Either that, or the old cache should be removed and this archived.
  15. Nor when I was a child, although where I lived then I was not worried by the prickles. But the prickles exist where I live now, and fortunately puncture resistant tyres are now available, and have been for years. I'm sure you can buy them in America too for your bicycles now.
  16. I pulled more than 20 of them from my bicycle tyres recently. Puncture resistant tyres are well worth the money. No punctures and I cycled on.
  17. I went into project-gc, but it didn't ask me to 'authenticate', so I guess I have been here recently enough I didn't need to. I checked a cache to see if I qualified and the system work for me. However, at the top the following is displaced, and it has been displaying that for awhile, because I remember it from previous visits. "We are currently experiencing issues with our database cluster. This could cause unexpected behaviours."
  18. Yes, I drove over 8,000 kms return (about 12,000 km total for the whole trip) to log my first cache in Western Australia. In Europe you would drive through many countries in that distance. It's much more of an achievement to log states in Australia, than for those living in Europe to log the equivalent number of countries. Mind you, I would have only needed to drive about 5,000 if I had driven to the closest WA cache ?. On that thought, it would be nice to have the number of finds in each Australian state listed, as they are for the USA and Canada. And for countries much smaller than our states.
  19. I have never done anything to make the maps visible on my Etrex 30. I just download the maps to the (added) chip and they instantly work.
  20. That's true, as I live in a place with lots of power trails, a good proportion of which I have never bothered to do yet. I don't rush out to do power trails. So all I had to do was go and do a power trail; found the rest of what was needed in an afternoon and the vault opens. I wasn't planning to do this challenge, but then I saw I had found several just by normal caching, thought okay, what the heck, held off logging some and went out and completed it in an afternoon. Then logged them in the order necessary.
  21. Yes, so much so I wonder if this is a child. With spelling, good grief, that's what spell checkers are for. Load one one and use it.
